"Speaking of knowing things…" Kyle said slowly, "You still haven't given me a chance to tell my story."
"I know," said Andrea. "I was having too much fun speculating. Finding you like this is a gift, and I don't want to tear the wrapping off all at once. ‘Building up the anticipation makes it better.’"
Kyle blinked again, then gave a quiet snort of recognition at his own words being thrown back at him.
"So what is your speculation?" Kyle asked.
"Oh I don't know, probably something utterly disappointing. Did they pick you up for speeding on the way to the farmers market? I guess that wouldn't explain the uh…" she gestured at his injury again. "It wouldn't explain that now, would it. Oh, I know! You got into a fight over the last piece of bluefin!"
Kyle just shook his head slightly.
"No? I guess it's too much to hope you did something really exciting like rob a bank—You're not secretly a cat burglar are you, Kyle? Lose your balance breaking into an art gallery? No…?"
Kyle looked unamused. "Very funny, Chuckles, would you mind taking this a little more seriously?"
"Of course," said Andrea. "Very serious for a lawyer to have been arrested. You could be disciplined. Disbarred! Why, we might not see each other in court anymore. Wouldn't that be a shame."
"Wouldn't it though," replied Kyle. "So that's the kind of guy you think I am? Stealing fine art and fighting in fish markets?”
Andrea pondered some more.
"I know!" she exclaimed. "Did you get into a fight with someone's boyfriend? Did it turn out that you were your young lady's bit on the side, and you ended up having a domestic dispute?"
Kyle winced.
"Is that it?!" Andrea had been teasing, but it seems like she had touched a nerve. To whatever degree Kyle had seemed like he'd been playing along, even as worn down as he was, that last remark had left him deflated.
Kyle hung his head. "It wasn't like that…"
"Oh sure, like you haven't been collecting notches on your bedposts."
"I'M not like that."
"You're not? That's not what your reputation says, out there collecting numbers and breaking hearts. I heard that you were a real ladykil–"
"Andrea! I'm not–" Kyle shouted, grabbing her hands.
His hands were strong, and his grip so tight it almost hurt. His expression so intense, frustrated and hurt and… scared?
Andrea knew she had been twisting the knife a little into something that bothered him, but what had caused this reaction?
It was only for a moment, then Kyle seemed to catch himself and let go. He slumped back in his chair and slid his shackled hands back below the table.
Andrea leaned back as well, adding to the distance, and folded her arms, no longer smiling. She glanced at the duress button out of the corner of her eye. If Kyle had kept holding her as tightly as he had been, she wouldn't have even been able to reach it.
"I think we're ready for storytime now," she said seriously. “I think you had better start at the punchline. What have you been charged with, Mr Wynn?"
Kyle took a deep breath before he raised his head once more.
"Murder, Ms Mason. First Degree Murder."
***
Andrea Mason, a defense attorney who cares more about justice and protecting her clients than just winning cases. But the one man she hates to lose to is her rival, the arrogant prosecutor, Kyle Wynn. Kyle represents everything Andi hates about unscrupulous win-at-all-costs lawyers, and for years they have traded arguments in the courtroom and barbs in the hallways.
Their paths cross again when they find themselves on a high-profile murder trial. As much as Andrea might despise Kyle, she can’t believe it when HE is charged with the horrific murder. But she is even more shocked when he asks for her to represent him at trial…

寫檢討I am obsessed with this book! I literally cannot put it down! The writing is superb— truly on a level of it’s own. It flows so well and draws you in. And I am so intrigued by the plot and solving the mystery! I love the little bread crumbs subtly left behind, the misdirection and twists, and oh the characters! The character development is SO good! The banter and personalities are hilarious and the romance and tension is exciting and realistic (not cheasy and fluffy), and you truly fall in love with them! I LOVE this book—I HIGHLY recommend it! You will not regret any time spent reading it!
Reads like the work of a seasoned writer! The author weaves a touching and tender love story into a crime drama that is really genius in the way it plays out. Fresh, clever, surprising and an absolute MUST READ! And bonus: there’s a Burrito!
Author here! 👀 I’m not above writing a review for my own story, but mostly so I can tell you what to expect. Plus, not gonna lie, I’m super excited with the way it’s shaping up and want to sway any fence-sitters into giving it a try. Please, please, if you find the first chapter intriguing, then give it a chance through the first ten chapters— I’m hoping it will take less than that to convince you to continue. The early chapters set up a lot for the characters. It’s my hope to have a somewhat non-WN-standard contemporary romance that will have broad appeal. I know this sounds like “Jack of all trades, master of none”—but don’t forget that the original quote continues—“oftentimes better than a master of one!” So you just might find a gem here. Mystery, humor, twists, intelligent characters, crime, action, betrayal… all within the bounds of an enemies-to-lovers romance. (Don’t expect smut, sorry. Intimacy, yes.) In terms of writing, you may find the occasional typo, but I go to great lengths to publish the best writing possible, so errors will be minimal. Length— I make no predictions about how long the complete story will be. It will continue as long as the plot requires. I don’t like filler just to boost the chapter count. If I think of anything more, I’ll add it as a comment below. Thank you! Happy reading! 🧡

Such a shame I didn't start to read this novel earlier! It was a fantastic immersive reading, characters stood out like in a movie, dialogues flowing easily, the intrigue, the suspense. Definitely following!
Flawless writing and engaging plot. Right from the beginning you can already tell it's going to be a treat, as it starts with a pretty solid approach to mystery, which somewhat reminded me of Agatha Christie. The characters are relatable and life-like, but what I love the most about them is how their psychological aspect is conveyed through their attire, gestures and even by their likes/dislikes more than with words. Giving this book a chance means submerging into a chaotic office life, with everyday struggles, but also into the world of 'justice' where gray is either black or white. In summary, it's a fun read with comical situations and, hopefully, a spicy romance between lawyers. PS. Dibs on Madison
To become invested in a book, you have to be invested in the characters. They need to be complex, intriguing, flawed, endearing, captivating, engaging, varied, and believable. And the cast of characters in Innocent Until Proven Guilty is just that. The main characters have layers that are slowly peeled back little by little with each chapter. The author makes you root for these characters - personally, professionally, and romantically. You become connected to them, and if you look hard enough, you might even find a little bit of yourself within their story. This book hooks you in the most startling way, but it is the continual character development that keeps you coming back for more. Whether it's the main or supporting characters, you'll come back to read what they do next. In addition to the masterful characterization, the imagery and word choice create a vivid mental picture that delights both the mind and literary soul. You won't regret adding this book to your library, so don't do yourself the injustice of letting this one get away!
I actually got hooked by the first chapter and my brain forced me to write a review for this outstanding work the author slowest cook, am still in chapter 14, and I will continue reading it later cus I need to rest for now. Expecting more updates from you soon

Absolute page turner
I did not expect to enjoy this novel nearly as much as I am. Most books involving lawyers are inaccurate to the point of being cringey and irritating. I was ready to be disappointed. That has not happened. This is a refreshingly fun, well-written novel that has made it into my highly selective list of books I will keep reading. The characters are three dimensional and well developed. The personalities are compelling, the plot intriguing but not difficult to keep up with, and the descriptions vivid without being distracting. The few (so far) legal things that aren’t quite on point are so minor as to be easily overlooked. The mystery is so engaging and well-paced that even the most curmudgeonly of practicing attorneys would continue reading. I’m excited to find out how the mystery resolves!
This book has EVERYTHING! You’ve got drama, you’ve got romance, you’ve got mystery, you’ve got comedy, and most importantly you have phenomenal writing and world creation. You will be enthralled, captivated, and sitting on the edge of your seat (at the end of most chapters, and luckily for you, the next chapter is already published!) This is honestly one of the best books I have found on WebNovel and you will not regret picking up this book!!!
changing my review bcz authot deserves the five stars. The story revolves around two characters and its also realistic enough. Iam quite immersed in tge storyline and am sure that tge author won't dissapoint us. Also congrats for the wpc july month. I think
I am binge reading this book. The characters are fun and entertaining; and of course there is Burrito 🤭. The murder mystery is full of twists and turns; and just when you think “AHa” there is a turn that has one guessing. The reader/author comments are also so much fun. I recommend you binge read it too 🎉🎉🎉

I really enjoy this story's blend of intrigue, romance, drama and humor. I'm as excited to see where the main characters relationship goes as to find the solution to the mystery. I enjoy how the main characters have contracting personalities and viewpoints that make it understandable why they would start as enemies, but warm to one another as they learn more about each other. The female lead Andrea is strong without falling into the trap a lot of "strong female characters" so of just being mean all the time. She's confident, talented and principled without being a Mary-Sue, but when you get to see her thoughts, she's also conflicted and struggles with self-doubt. She is kind of mean to Kyle sometimes, but recognizes that she finds him irrationally irritating. Kyle starts out as something of the classic rich handsome talented archetype, but it works for the character and there have been opportunities for him to show more depth. I'm looking forward to learning more about him. The supporting cast are some of my favorites. I hope the author finds an excuse to have more scenes with Madison! The chapters are consistently a satisfying length, and have been released on a regular schedule so far. The writing does a great job of painting the scene. I feel like I could imagine exactly what a lot of the scenes would look like if they were filmed for a tv show. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes next! 👍
