章節 16: READY FOR MOSCOW
"Wait, what did you say?."
"Commander, I said that you are promoted to the rank of lieutenant general, making you the only person in the entire history of Russia to ever get this rank this fast at this young age."
Well, this was definitely something that I was not expecting now, after all, who gives one of the important ranks in the military to some unknown person, and that too, in the situation of war, this does not make any sense to me.
"Is their something else, soldier?."
I asked the soldier since he was not leaving the tent and was looking at my face.
"Yes, commander, there is something more."
"What is it?."
Is the thing related to war, like orders to open a new front from here so that they can put more pressure on Ukraine or any mobilization orders for the army? Wait, the orders can also be for some geopolitical reason since it is one of the main things that shows the image of the country.
"Commander, the commanding general of the war, the chief of general staff wants to talk to you."
"Wait, you are telling me this important information, know?."
"Commander, you were too stunned or maybe happy with your promotion news that you went into deep thinking, and I did not want to disturb your thinking process, so I remained quiet and waited for you to come back to reality."
"Fine, but it is the last time I do not want you to repeat it. Do you understand, soldier?."
"Yes commander."
"Now follow me."
I said after getting out of my tent and went towards the information gathering department to receive the call, and after some time I arrived at my destination. At first, I was surprised since the entire area was completely changed; there were many pages on which confidential information was written. We got these things from the captured soldiers who gave us the news. Now this information will be forwarded to the rear, where they will send it to the capital, where they will see if there is a chance of false information, and if yes, then they will not pass that information to the frontlines, but if they think that the information is crucial, then it will be forwarded.
After seeing all this, I started to look for my radio boy. It is a name that I gave to the person who holds the communication device since I do not want to mistake him for someone else, and since he is talking on a satellite device, it is the only device in the entire military group that is commanded by me. Do not get fooled that I am very poor or am a very miserly person, or that the Russian government is like this because only I need to talk to the higher-ups who are sitting at faraway places like Moscow and the Kursk region's command center, while the normal soldiers have radio communications that the person can use to have communication with me or a fellow officer.
"Soldier, pass me the device."
"Yes commander."
After he passed me the device, I heard the voice of the Chief of the General Staff and first deputy minister of defense, Army General Valery Gerasimov.
"Tell me, general, what are the new orders for me? and what is with this sudden promotion?"
"First let me congratulate you, boy, on your promotion to the rank of lieutenant general. You know there were only twenty lieutenant generals, but now they got one more in you."
"Thank you for your praise, general. I just hope that I fully deserve this position."
"You do not have to worry about it since you already deserve this position, boy."
"Thank you for believing in me in general, and now can you tell me why this sudden promotion and what are my new orders?."
"Well, I do know why you were promoted, but your new will need some time since you are coming to the capital."
"What do you mean, general, I did not get it?."
"I said you are coming to the capital Moscow now, soldier."
"Why, general, can you please tell me the reason?."
"The reason is very simple: that is working on your demands."
"I do not get it general."
"Well, you know we were very confused about how to bring you in front of the people and how to fully fill your demand for publicity since we just cannot bring a random person in front of the media and say that he is the reincarnation of general Georgy Zhukov, a World War II hero, or Alexander Suvorov, who was considered one of the few great generals in history who never lost a battle, or Mikhail Kutuzov, who was a charismatic general who famously defended Moscow against Napoleon, but now we have a way, and this way was given by you."
"What way, sir?."
"The way you gave us was in the disguise of a victory against Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region; now if we promote you in the media, no one will question you, and to improve your image, we also added some great things to your background."
"What great things general?."
"You know the general trend right like'he was wounded in the chest but still fought with the enemy' and the like also we will also award you our highest military award the order of saint George you know it is only given to those who have defeated an external enemy in a military operation or restoring international peace and security through combat and other operations in other countries or exemplifying military prowess and being a model of military science and last but not the least receiving previous state awards for distinction in combat and you young men come under two things out of four so be ready you are coming here to recieve the awards and some exposure to media so soldier pack your bags and come here now is it clear?."
"Yes general."
"Very well, I want to see you here by tomorrow, okay? Also, do not forget one more thing."
"What is it, sir?."
"The president himself will award you with these things, and after that you will have a meeting with him. Is it clear?."
"Yes sir."
"Very well, then see you tomorrow."
"Yes sir."
After saying this, the call got disconnected. I became a statue for some time, and when I came back, I only thought one word, which was damn.
"Soldier, quickly go and bring me the colonel and other captains to my tent as soon as possible. I want to hold an emergency meeting with them immediately."
A soldier quickly said yes to me and went outside to get them, and I went back to my tent to think about the unexpected situation and about what orders I needed to relay to them.
After five minutes, I saw the colonel and the captains, who were summoned by the system, coming into the tent, and after they saluted me, I told them the current situation.
"So any questions that anyone wants to ask me?."
"Sir, why are they helping us so much?."
Asked the young captain.
"Captain, can you please elaborate the question?."
"Commander, by that I meant why are they doing so much just to glorify you since for them we are just some mercenaries whose lives should not matter to them. In my mind, the most they would have done to us was just some small-scale promotion like showing our video on a news channel for some seconds while stating that we repelled the attack, and that is it, so why are they doing so much?."
"Captain, you have a very good question there, but first I would like to ask: Does anyone have anymore questions?."
"No commander."
"Very well then, I will just answer the captain's question, and after that, we will talk about you now coming to the answer. The answer is divided into two parts. The first part is identity, which means that due to our special identity, they cannot do much to us since they think that we are Indian soldiers, and if they do anything to us, they will lose India from a geopolitical side since, despite facing the pressure from the world, India still helped them. I know it is somewhat true, but they think that India has taken a huge gamble by sending its military here."
"What is the second reason, commander?."
"The second reason is very simple, which is morale. You know, despite having a stable trend of victory in war, there is still a low morale in the country, especially among the civilians. You know, from the start of the war, hundreds of citizens have left the country due to the fear of conscription, and if at this moment they show the country that they do not have to worry about it since their own army can win the war easily, then it will increase their morale. Do you understand, captain?."
"Yes, commander, I understand it fully."
"Very well, any further questions?."
At this no one spoke, and then I briefed them about their positions in my absence from here, and then I packed my bags and went to the military air base in the rear.
