章節 74: Reattachment

Maya was rubbing her bloated tummy. "Ugh." she burped.

She was back in the kitchen, rinsing a dozen empty bottles.

Instead of feeling light-headed, she felt…heavy.

"Oh, Maya, there you are!" Chef Will walked straight towards her. "Should we make brain pudding for tomorrow's brunch? And…" he was tapping on his chin. "Avocado toast for the princess." He nodded, satisfied with his idea. "That's settled then. Thank you, my friend."

Maya haven't heard what the chef said, nor did she care, she turned off the faucet, a frown formed into her forehead.

She let her grip go from the bottle as the unwashed bottles clinked on the sink.

"Are you okay?" Chef Will was studying her. "You look crumpled."

Her stomach churned, cold sweats forming on her temple, she held a hand onto her stomach.

Yes, that was stupid. A stupid idea executed stupidly.

It now sunk into her that she drank half a pitcher of drugged beer--- an equivalent to half a bottle of laxatives.

"My friend, are you okay." Chef Will put an arm across her shoulder, helping her to stand steadily. "You ate something bad."

"Excuse me." Maya shoved Chef Will to the side with more force than she intended. She was in a rush, she needed to hurry, or things would get dirty.

She rushed on the only toilet in the kitchen, she turned the knob furiously and pounded on the door. "Out… come out!" she pounded on the door a few times more, but no one was answering. She had no time it was easier to go to the toilet in the hallway than wait in line in here.

"Oh no," With her hand on her stomach, she dashed away from the kitchen door. "Noooo." She grunted.

"You drank too much." Chef Will instinctively moved to the side this time.

Ten steps, she only needed to make it ten steps towards the nearest restroom.

"I'm constipated these days, I opened the medicine cabinet but I found the bottle of laxatives missing…" Chef Will was still trailing behind her.

Maya had no time for small talk, she just let the chef talk to himself.

Maya managed to enter safely inside and locked the door on the face of Chef Will.

She safety sat down on the toilet as she relieved herself.

"Maya," Chef Will knocked on the door. "I'm just here if you need anything."

"go." Maya said without strength.

"What do you need?" Chef Will repleid.

"GOOO!" Maya shouted. "JUST GO!"

"Okay, I'll be in the kitchen if you need me." Chef Will's footsteps were getting farther and farther away from the door.

After the relief of one, another one painful spasm comes.

'When this will end?'

"Ugh," She dry hived as cold sweat dropped down from her temple.

She suddenly felt guilty once more towards Peter--- her must be experiencing the same thing right now. The only thing Maya could hope for him was he was able to find a toilet safetly before it… explodes.

The laxative tasted nothing on the beer that's why she dank so much. She naturally drank down the pitcher to half, forgetting her mission for a second, bringing her guard down, and this is what happens.

She gritted her teeth as another spasm of pain emerged, this was harder than being chased by a dog zombie, she felt like she was about to pass out, she pressed both of her hands on the wall for her dear life.

How long will she have to endure these royals?

The things the spoiled princes make her do.

Alyssa had her arms crossed on her chest, pacing back and forth in her room, she changed into a faded shirt and jeans--- an outfit she rarely wore to the point that it was buried under her drawer.

Eli was following her movements through his eyes, like a clock ticking from left to right.

Alyssa stopped in the middle and turned around to face Eli. "Did Maya give the ale?"

"Yes."

Alyssa instructed Maya to give the current guard stationed at the dungeon some ale with added laxative in it so that she won't have to deal with it later.

"How will we know if it has already had taken effect?"

"Maya will give a signal, "Eli looked at the wall clock. "maybe a few minutes from now."

Alyssa instructed Maya to drug the guard so she won't have to explain herself and complicate things--- a part of her maybe doesn't like her and Dr. Natalie being seen together--- Maya did not want her name to be associate with the doctor.

Knock…Knock… Knock.

The knock was so slow that Elion did not realize someone was at the door immediately.

A melting Maya welcomed Elion at the door. "Hurry," she prepped a hand on the wall for support. "To the dungeon, now…"

Alyssa wrapped a robe around her body. "Eli, go get Dr. Natalie."

Eli nodded and was on his way out from the door when a hand stopped him on his tracks.

"Can you do me a favor?" Maya became smaller than usual with the way she stood up--- her feet twisting together. "Can you ask the princess if I can use her bathroom?"

Eli opened his mouth.

Maya did not wait for his reply. "Thanks." she sprinted towards the bathroom and locked herself inside.

***

Leaving Maya in her bathroom, Alyssa went to the dungeon.

Just as Maya had announced, there was no guard in sight. They don't know up until when it would be empty though.

A few minutes after, Eli arrived with the Doctor at his side.

Dr. Natalie went down the prison hall with Alyssa. "Interesting," Dr. Natalie scanned the area admiringly as they descended down the stairs---most likely so she could have a story to tell her friends.

"We don't have the key." Dr. Natalie observed.

"Yes," Alyssa had already thought about this. "You will have to do it from here." She pointed at the spot as Eli placed a cloth on the floor.

"You mean for me to attach her arm while not being able to reach her without obstruction?"

"Yes. Or is it too hard for you?" Alyssa rebuked.

"Of course, I can!" Dr. Natalie said smugly. "I would just have to take some more time."

"You have ten minutes." Ten minutes before the next guard rotation.

Dr. Natalie operated Zenalda. She did not use any anesthesia--- anesthesia are rare and Dr. Natalie assured Duchess Zenalda though she would feel pain, it would be bearable for she is a royal. "I reserve the numbing agent to those who need them the most." Implying that the perishable needed it more than the royals.

After the Duchess' arm was mended, Alyssa allowed Dr. Natalie to leave so they could talk privately.

Duchess Zenalda was opening and closing her palm, trying to test the newly attached hand, but unfortunately, it does not move no matter how much she tries to will it to.

"It might take some time." Dr. Natalie did warn the Duchess. For how long, only time would be able to tell.

"You can go now." Alyssa instructed Dr. Natalie.

"If you want proof." Duchess Zenalda said.

"There would be a gathering on midnight this Friday." She spat. "The one I wanted to be invited to." She gave up and let go of her hand hanging on her side. "It will be held on the left wing, the farthest from here, the abandoned room."

"What will I expect to see in there?"

"Oh, lots of royals…" she laughed. "If you're lucky you could see the queen, your mother attending too…" she settled on the corner again, staring at the small hall up in the ceiling. "And lots of things you won't be able to buy in a normal market." She wrapped one of her arms on her plump legs. "This would not ended up like this had Ana been here…should have warned her… should have told her everything."

For some reason, Alyssa does not want to hear her real mother's name--- Ana---- from Duchess Zenalda. Of course, Alyssa always wondered how life would have been like had her biological mother been alive now. But she honestly cannot imagine her life without her queen mother now, she is happy the way things are. And maybe one of the reasons she hates hearing her biological mother's name from others was because of the guilt. The guild of in giving Ana's life for hers. She used to cry at night as she imagined talking to her mother, Ana, apologizing for stealing her life away from her. That if she had a choice, she would rather not live in this world just so her mother could live. But growing up, she changed her mindset. I would have been unfair for Queen Kathy for Alyssa to always live with the shadow of Ana.

Ana might have given her life, but Queen Kathy gave her the world. And for that she would forever be grateful.
