章節 26: Chapter 19: Disability
Whatever this is, it is weird.
The moment I opened my eyes, everything around me is burning. Literally the only thing I could see were flames all around me.
After a few seconds, I see the faint outline of a huge creature suddenly appearing right in front of me. It has a gigantic, bulky body and 4 legs that look like tree trunks. When I looked up, I saw glowing red eyes. Some of the flames burning around me started gathering on top of the outline's back, forming what looks like wings.
Wait a minute.
I hear something.
"Y-you...be, one who...-eated, the -aw. Tha-...u."
"Ah!"
I open my eyes.
Oh my Death God.
What the heck was that!?
Were those words?
Never mind that now. I can feel that there is something wrong with my body. Why is my vision still dark? I swore I just woke up and opened my eyes just now.
I blink.
No way.
Even after I blink several times, I can still only see darkness.
I need to test something here.
I use my hand and move it until it is in front of my face. After that I start waving my hand in front of it.
I can not see my waving hand.
I think I just went blind.
How did this happen!?
Was the damage that my body received distributed equally to every part of my body? If that is the case then, life is going to be very hard from now on. Sight is the sense that human beings rely on the most. If I don't have it, everything I do and will do in the future will be very hard to accomplish.
I will need to get used to not being able to see my surroundings. I need to hone and rely on my sense of touch and hearing the most now if I am going to survive all of the things that I will have to do.
I stand up from my bed. I try to walk over to my bedroom door so that I can inform my parents of my current condition. While I was walking, I hit my toe on the feet of my drawer.
Oh Frick!!!
I fall down backwards and grab my toe.
This hurts so much!
I will really need to learn how to survive without sight or else more stuff like this will happen. With tears in my eyes, I nurse my toe which is throbbing in pain. After a few seconds, I hear hurried footsteps coming from outside of my door.
While wondering who it is, someone comes inside of my room.
"Alex! Are you all right?!"
That voice is father's, right?
"Yes, I am alright."
I stand up and face him.
"What are you looking at?"
"I am looking at you."
"You are looking at the wall."
I am looking at the wall? I was pretty sure that I was looking at the place where I heard father's voice. This is going to get hard. I will need to inform him that I can not actually see him.
"I am-"
"Wait. I need to tell your mother that you have woken up so that she can check your injuries. I am no good with Healing Magic so I will bring her here."
After saying that, father walked out of the room and I think he went out of the house as well, judging by the sound of the door closing downstairs. It is going to get harder to explain to them now, isn't it?

Authors Note: Switches to Irene's Perspective (Irene is Alex's mother)
Right now, I am buying some food from the local marketplace. I am buying the ingredients for a special dish I will cook when Alex wakes up. We will be eating something special because Alex became injured and fell unconscious on his birthday. So, when he does wake up, we can celebrate his birthday together as a family.
I already applied extensive Healing Magic on him a few days ago and will administer more when he is up.
After I bought all of the ingredients I needed, when I turned around to go home, I saw Dear running up to me. When he reached me, he put his hands on his knees and started breathed deeply before looking at me.
"Dear, when I came home to get my sword for work, I heard a sound coming from Alex's bedroom. When I checked inside, Alex was already awake. So, I came here to tell you that you should heal him again. Hopefully, the others will understand if their commander has a break to tend to his son."
"Really!?"
"Yes!"
After saying that, he started running again. Alex has finally woken up again after a few days. I will make sure that he will feel better with a nice meal and some treatment.
Oh yeah!
I need to tell some of my friends. I start looking around the market to hopefully spot one of them.
There!
I run towards them and start telling them the news.
"Hey, Andrea, Alex woke up today. Do you want to celebrate with us?"
"Sure! It is good that he woke up, even after everything that happened to him."
"Thank you. Also, try to spread the word because I need to head back now."
"Alright."
I invited one person already.
Alex, I will get back soon!

Well, it seems that mother has come home. I say that because right now, she is applying Healing Magic on every place of my body.
"Are you really alright?"
She said that in an anxious tone. I must have really worried everyone while I was out, huh? I need to tell her now about my blindness or else the situation will get worse with time.
"Mother, actually-"
Right when I was going to say it, knocking came from the door downstairs.
"Wait for a moment, I will answer."
Mother left my room and went downstairs. While waiting, I heard faint conversation from outside of my room. After a few seconds, I heard rapid footsteps ascending the staircase, followed by other sets of footsteps.
When I was going to ask who it was, the door opened and I felt something hugging me. Who is hugging me right now?
"Um, who is this?"
When I asked that, I heard the sounds of multiple people coming into my room. Then, their speech started to overlap.
"Miss Luscia!? You should have waited for Madam Irene to let you enter!"
"Luscia, why did you suddenly come inside?"
"Irene, who are these two people?"
"Why do you know these people?"
Everyone started talking to each other at the same time. However, the person hugging me stayed there. Looks like I will need to stop this myself.
"I don't know who many of the people here are but, can you stop talking? One of the only senses I have left is getting overloaded by all of the noise you are making."
...
"What do you mean 'one of the only senses you have'?"
After some silence, the person hugging me let go and asked. I know because the sound is very close to me. Judging by the voice, it is a girl who is speaking. I don't think that I have ever talked to any girl except mother, Miria, and the receptionist at the Adventurer's Guild.
Why does she know me?
"That is because, right now, I am blind."
I tell them frankly.
...
Only silence remained.
