"Oh really, but I bought it with the dress. How come that this is yours?" she defensively said. she's giving me a smirk of mockery. Eva remained steadfast in her denial,
"Adelle, that's right. Remember when I invited you to come? Eva looked for the accessories that perfectly fit the dress. Maybe you made a mistake." Melissa said.
"See, sister Adelle. Don't make such false accusations," she said and smirked at me. I looked at my father with a mix of anger and frustration
"Father, I'm telling you the truth. That's mine. Someone gifted it to me." I defensively said but the Marquess didn't look convinced. Well, what do I expect?
"Adelle, Maybe you just misplaced yours in your room. Melissa and Eva said that they bought it. I'll give you money so you can buy all the accessories you want." He calmly said.
"No need... but I'm sure, that's mine," I said with a hint of coldness and walked away. Hmph! What did I expect from the marquess and Eva? They are all the same.
"Let's go, we'll be late." I heard them and they got in the carriage. I continued to walk without looking back
"Sister Adelle, don't worry I'll give you something later!" she shouted and I could hear her laugh and the carriage left.
I was so frustrated. That damn Eva, her time will come. she needs to learn her lessons. I went inside and immediately entered my room but I was startled when I saw my room was a mess
"What do you think you're doing?" I ask the maid full of suspicion, she's searching for something on my desk. could it be Adelle's diary? Kaniz immediately slaps her and takes what's in her hand.
I immediately step closer to the desk and take a look at the drawer where the Diary is hidden, I can feel my heartbeat as I walk towards the drawer and I feel relieved, thank God, I locked it before I came out.
"What were you doing, Misi?" Kaniz furiously asks the servant. What was she doing here? Stealing some of Adelle's jewelry or something else?
"I-I'm sorry my Lady. Punish me if you want. I just need some money to afford my father's medication." her voice trembling with emotion, shivering, and kneeled before me.
So, that's why she's stealing. I took the jewel that Kaniz confiscated from her.
"But that doesn't mean you can freely enter my room and steal some of my belongings," I coldly said. I put all the jewelry in my pouch. If I hadn't caught her, I wouldn't know that something was missing here.
"Milady, please forgive me. My father is dying and he needs his medication right away." her pleading for help made me uneasy and she started to cry. I throw the pouch on the floor.
"Take it, buy your father his medication...but don't do this again," I said to threaten her. She reaches for the pouch and opens it. I can see her hands shiver and her eyes widen
"But Milady, this is more than enough." She said.
"It's fine, just don't do it again or else..." I said in a threatening voice. She bowed her head and started to cry. but that cry is out of happiness and relief.
I was startled when she reached my feet and kissed them out of gratitude "Milady, Thank you!" she loudly said and whispered loud enough to hear it. "Thank you..."
I can feel her emotion, feeling relief and thankful enough to kiss both of my feet. I stepped back. because, even though she was expressing her gratitude towards me, that was a bit too much. It was not something I anticipated, and it caught me off guard.
"Go on," I said and let her go. She immediately goes out to my room. I shifted my gaze at Kaniz and saw her soft smiles
"Milady, you always have a good heart." She spoke. I smile at her. I just did that to take her on my side. All of the servants talk behind Adelle's back. I remember reading in the diary, that even the servant blamed Adelle for something she didn't do. Of course, the Marquess believe in the servant's words rather than his daughter's.
But, maybe I feel Misi, I know how it feels not able to do anything when your loved ones are in danger. Our difference is just that, the last resort she took was to steal, and I, was to kill.
~~~~~Harrison's Residence~~~~~
At the magnificent Harrison's mansion, a grand celebration was underway to commemorate Natasha's 10th birthday. The opulent ballroom was adorned with shimmering decorations, delicate flowers, and sparkling chandeliers. The air was filled with an aura of excitement and joy as guests, including the esteemed Noble families and the Larmaleilles, gathered to honor the young girl.
As the evening sun cast a warm glow through the tall windows, the guests arrived one by one, dressed in their finest attire. The Noble family, known for their elegance and grace, made a grand entrance, their presence commanding attention.
Natasha, the birthday girl, stood at the center of the ballroom, radiating happiness and anticipation. She wore a beautiful gown adorned with intricate lace and shimmering sequins, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison, beamed with pride as they watched their daughter bask in the attention and love surrounding her.
The aroma of delectable delicacies wafted through the air, tempting the senses and adding to the festive ambiance. The sound of soft music filled the room, setting the perfect backdrop for an evening of celebration.
"Happy birthday, Natasha. You look so beautiful in that dress." One of Natasha's friends complimented her.
"Yeah, you look wonderful."
"Thank you, don't flutter me," Natasha responded with a graceful laugh to the compliments of her friends. But she notices that Eva is not with them.
"Where's Eva?" she curiously asks. Her friends look at each other, nervously and with hesitant expressions as if they're communicating just by their minds, Natasha's head tilts and gives a confused look to each of them,
"Well~ she hasn't arrived yet." One of her friends said with a tone of disgust and she noticed that something was off.
"What's the matter?" she asks solemnly with a hint of curiosity.
One of her friends leans towards her as if she is about to reveal a life-threatening secret and whispers. "Did you know what happened to her residence a few days ago?"
"No, what happened? I was not able to attend the tea party because I was busy planning for my party. Everything needs to be perfect" She explained.
"Well— "she cuts what her friends saying.
"Let's talk in my room." She said and they immediately went to Natasha's room.
Nathaniel however, heard it and followed them to eavesdrop. When they arrive at the room. They told Natasha what had happened in Larmaleilles' residence and she didn't expect it, also Nathaniel widened his eyes when he heard the story outside the room.
"Adelle..." he mumbled to himself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So, You're telling me that Adelle...is not the adopted daughter but Eva?" she said completely disbelief and can't believe what she found out.
"Yes, she even does bad things at Adelle, like burning all her fancy dresses and cutting her hair"
"What? She does that?" Natasha's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Yes, Lady Natasha. I'm telling you all the truth." One of her friends said full of sincerity and all of them nodded and agreed with the statement.
"Oh my god! I can't believe it. We were bullying Adelle because we thought that she was the evil between the two, but it is truly Eva." Natasha said and stood up. "Even if, I truly hate Adelle, I can't do things to her like that."
"Yes, Eva is truly evil, indeed."
"Please, let's not talk about this, I don't want to ruin my party," Natasha said and was about to exit the room. Nathaniel immediately walks away and goes to the banquet hall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Now entering from the Noble house of Larmaleilles."
With an air of elegance and sophistication, the Larmaleilles family made their grand entrance into the opulent banquet hall. As the double doors swung open, a hush fell over the room, and all eyes turned towards them including Nathaniel with his eyes widened as he saw the hair accessories on Eva's hair.
"Look! She's here."
Eva, eager to reunite with her friends, eagerly scanned the bustling hall, her eyes darting from one group to another in search of familiar faces. As she navigated through the crowd, her heart skipped a beat when she spotted Natasha and her friends descending the grand staircase. All eyes are fixed on Natasha as she walks down.
"Wow, she's really beautiful."
"Yes, what do you expect from the one and only daughter of the Duke?"
"Yeah, she's blessed with beauty."
Filled with excitement, Eva quickly made her way towards them, a smile spreading across her face. She positioned herself at the foot of the stairs, patiently waiting for Natasha and her friends to reach her.
However, as they approached, "Lady Natasha, Happy---" She didn't finish her greeting.
Eva's smile faltered as she noticed that Natasha and her friends seemed to be engrossed in their own conversation, oblivious to her presence.
'Maybe they didn't see me.' She said into her mind and followed them to greet the other visitors.
Undeterred, Eva mustered up her courage and called out to them, her voice filled with warmth and anticipation. "Ladies, I would like---"
She hoped to catch their attention and share in the joy of their reunion. But to her dismay, Natasha and her friends continued walking, their gazes fixed ahead, seemingly ignoring Eva's presence.
Eva's heart sank as she watched them pass by, her excitement turning into disappointment. She couldn't understand why they would ignore her, especially after being apart for so long. The hurt and confusion washed over her, but she refused to let it consume her.
With a deep breath, Eva gathered her composure and reminded herself 'It's okay, I have many noble acquaintances that I can talk to, or even Lord Nathaniel' She decided to take the high road and not let this encounter dampen her spirits. She knew that there were others in the hall who would appreciate her presence and eagerly embrace her.
As Eva turned away from Natasha and her friends, she made a conscious effort to seek out other familiar faces. Eva's starting to get chill and felt like someone was looking at her. The music starts to play and the crowd starts to dance. Eva saw Nathaniel and found out that he was the one who gazed at her. Eva immediately blushed.
'Is he looking at me?' she said in her mind. She immediately fixes her posture and smiles at Nathaniel. He smiles back. Eva started to feel butterflies in her stomach. 'I can't believe this is happening.'
As Nathaniel descended the grand staircase, a collective gasp filled the air, and all eyes turned towards him in awe. The soft glow of the chandeliers illuminated his chiseled features, accentuating his strikingly handsome appearance. Eva, standing amidst the crowd, couldn't help but be captivated by his presence.
Her gaze fixated on Nathaniel, her eyes tracing his every movement as he gracefully made his way down the staircase. His confident stride and impeccable sense of style commanded attention, drawing admiration from everyone around him. Whispers of admiration and praise filled the room as guests marveled at his undeniable beauty.
"OMG! is that the duke's son? the young Lord Nathaniel?"
"Yes, he is."
"What a handsome, boy. I bet many girls have a crush on him."
"I bet so too."
Eva's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met, a brief moment of connection that sent a jolt of electricity through her veins. She felt a flutter of anticipation, her breath catching in her throat as she found herself unable to look away. In that instant, it felt as if time stood still, and the world around them faded into the background.
Eva couldn't help but join in the chorus of praise silently in her mind. She marveled at Nathaniel's flawless features, his piercing emerald eyes, and his magnetic charm. It was as if he possessed an otherworldly allure that left everyone spellbound.
Though surrounded by a sea of admirers, Nathaniel remained composed and humble, graciously accepting the compliments bestowed upon him. His genuine smile and warm demeanor only added to his magnetic appeal, making him even more captivating in Eva's eyes.
As Nathaniel gracefully descended the grand staircase, the crowd held its breath in anticipation, wondering who would be the lucky recipient of his attention. Whispers filled the air as guests exchanged excited glances, speculating about who Nathaniel would choose as his dance partner for the evening.
"I wonder who he likes to dance with?"
"I want to know too."
"I bet she's pretty."
Eva, standing amidst the crowd, couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in her chest. Nathaniel's eyes locked with hers, a knowing smile playing on his lips. Time seemed to stand still as Nathaniel made his way towards Eva, his steps purposeful and confident.
'Is he going to ask me for a dance?' she said in her mind.
As Nathaniel reached Eva's side, he extended his hand, a silent invitation for a dance. Eva's eyes widened in disbelief, her cheeks flushing with a mix of surprise and joy. She couldn't believe that Nathaniel had chosen her out of everyone in the crowd.
The crowd watched in awe, their curiosity piqued by this unexpected turn of events. Whispers of excitement filled the room as guests eagerly awaited what was about to unfold. Natasha and her friends furrowed their brows at the thought that his brother was asking Eva for a dance.
'What the hell is my brother thinking?' Natasha said to her mind. while looking at him with a frown face.
"Is that girl from the house of Larmaleilles?"
"Yes, I saw her with the Marquess Roman earlier."
"Really? She must be his daughter, Adelle."
"I think so."
"Marquess always says that his daughter's name is Adelle"
"Well, maybe she is Adelle."
Gossip among the nobles started to circulate. they thought that Eva was the daughter of the Marquess and mistaken her for Adelle.
