Kendra stumbled through the dense forest, her breath ragged and uneven, each step causing dead leaves to crunch beneath her feet. The branches seemed to close in around her, scratching at her skin, as if the forest itself were conspiring against her. Her mind raced with fear and desperation. All she could think of was reaching Evan, the one person she believed could help her. Dana's threats still echoed in her ears, and the thought of being dragged back to the pack's den terrified her.
As Kendra pushed through the thick underbrush, her heart pounded loudly in her chest. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was following her, something worse than Dana's wrath.
