Daniel
My eyes followed Nnamdi as he ran from the field. The girl he went to meet was the same girl he always meets up with., after church. It looked like she was angry with him, he was then holding her face and kissing her. I tried hard not to loose my cool in front of my teammates, but it was hard, I was so furious.
I gave him the cold shoulders, waiting patiently for everyone to go home before I can lash out. He played with my heart because I showed him a thousand times that I loved him too much, and I wasn't taking that. He had a girlfriend and hid it from me. I was such a fool.
" So is she your girlfriend?" I was furious, I grabbed his arms and turned him.
" leave me alone" he struggled with me but I refused to let go.
"Answer me"
"So what if she's my girlfriend?" He yelled back " you seem to forget that am a man too. Am naturally attracted to women"
I loosened my hands on his arms. I was speechless, calculative. My expression became so cold that he feared me. I made for my car, zoomed off. When I drove for a while, I realized that I had left him behind.
I felt sick from the weed and alcohol I had consumed, i didn't come to the field for days. I wasn't happy to be anywhere, but my home.
Basil had visited my home, he had noticed that I wasn't coming and decided to visit. He bought drinks along with him.
" what's wrong, man?. You look like you are mourning" he was shocked at the sight of me.
"Don't mind me, am just sick" I rushed and quickly take a shower. at least I looked better.
we drank and played video games. Basil had always known how to make anyone burst into tears while laughing, he was doing that and it made me feel a little better.
" so. Why haven't you been coming to the field?" He knew how to be serious when he wants to.
" it's nothing serious" I shrugged the question off.
" you are having a lover's quarrel with your homeboy?"
My breathe seized,
does he know?
" come on you can deceive everyone but not me. I know when two men are doing dirty things in the closet"
He knows. " How did you..?" I stammered
". I had my doubts when I first saw it, but it became more obvious with Evelyn involved. You did my girl dirty."
" Am sorry, she wasn't my type"
" she wasn't your type or you were already in love with him" he corrected, bumping his shoulders to mine. he knew all along and kept it a secret. I respect him. He is a good man. " just find a way to make peace with him. and be more cautious with this. it might be not be a big deal in Lagos but it is, in this town"
"Thanks Man," I shook him. Although I was grateful, I wasn't even bothered about other people getting to know this, I was bothered that I was about to loose Nnamdi.
From the next day, I didn't miss the Fields Again.
