Jin Liwei was afraid that his grandmother wouldn't wake up again. Fortunately, just as the sun rose in the sky the next morning, Grandma Li opened her eyes again. Jin Liwei released a sigh of relief.
"Grandma, it's Liwei," he said in a soft, hoarse voice. "How are you feeling?"
The old lady squinted but she still couldn't see her eldest grandson clearly. "You sound…exhausted. You…have…not…slept yet?"
Instead of replying, he asked instead, "Anything hurts, Grandma?"
Of course, Grandma Li understood that her grandson was just deflecting her question. It meant that he really hadn't slept at all.
"You…called…lawyer…yet?"
He paused. "Yes. Your lawyer should be coming later this morning."
"Good."
Silence.
Jin Liwei took his grandmother's frail, wrinkled hand. After growing up, the times he held his grandmother's hand could be counted on one hand. Perhaps even less. This was the first time he did this in so many years.
Updates are back today, Monday (November 25). My apologies for not being able to post in the last week. I'm in the Philippines right now and there have been super typhoons besieging the country one after another. The last one, local name Pepito (international name Man-yi), crossed my area. Although we were quite lucky that we only suffered some fallen trees and power/wifi outages, other surrounding towns and cities weren't so fortunate.
The main reason I wasn't able to update is due to the power/wifi outages. It got so frustrating that I just gave up and waited until the connections became stable again.
Thank you very much for your understanding!
