The Boknul had killed many people during his life, but never had he had to fight more than one at once. Unlike Esren, he had taken great pains to ensure the populace was unaware of his existence. Usually, that meant feeding on the scraps left over from Esren's meals, but it was a worthwhile trade-off for anonymity and secrecy.

Sometimes he would be caught mid-meal, but it was always by some buffoon that hadn't brought backup. Fighting one-on-two like this was new to him, and he nearly suffered for it.

Morne didn't miss the flicker of apprehension and disbelief in the Nasnami's gaze, and he retracted his sword for another swing.

The Boknul's eyes flashed once again, this time with a sense of triumph, as he reacted to Morne's movement, grabbing Morne's sword wrist with one hand as the other went for his sleeve.

He would pull back this poor-quality cloth to expose the human's flesh. By then, victory would be a matter of seconds.
