Evening clouds thickened across the sky like a gray curtain and swallowed the moonlight glow, failing to shine the narrow ravine below, where an overturned MPV lay crushed and motionless at the bottom of the deep and dark cliff. Surrounded by endless shadows, the car's frame twisted from the violent descent.
Then a young man crawled through the shattered side window of the vehicle. His silver hair was streaked with blood and dust. Its color was such a contrast with his sapphire blue eyes that were wide in panic as he pulled himself free, gasping for air that tasted of smoke and oil.
Once he was outside, the boy turned and ignored his pain as he reached back into the wreckage.
"Mom! Come on…! Just a little more!" he urged with a trembling voice while outstretching his hand into the car.
From the inside, a woman's frail hand weakly brushed the boy's hand against her.
"No, my son... Please go... Before they come..." She whispered, her voice was soft yet resolute, even though her breaths were shallow.
"No, mom…!" Tears blurred in the boy's vision. "How can you say that? I can't leave you both!" His gaze darted to the driver's seat where his father lay slumped and unconscious. Desperation clawed at him as his mother who was trapped beneath the crushing debris shook her head gently.
"No matter what happens... we'll always love you..." the mother muttered, offering the boy a fragile smile before closing her eyes as the last remnants of her life slipped away.
The young man screamed a raw, heart-wrenching cry that echoed through the cliff, reverberating off the cold, unfeeling stone walls. Then flames erupted from the car like a fiery bloom that consumed everything, making the boy move away as quickly as possible.
He tried to run away as far as he could and seconds later… the sound of an explosion echoed through the night.
The boy sobbed silently as he watched the burned MPV which left nothing but twisted metal, loss, and sorrow. There was nothing he could do but follow his mother's last words.
Staggering, dazed, and alone, he turned away from the inferno. Each of his steps led him into the unknown, followed by the grief that carved a hollow path in his chest as he stumbled through the dark night, uncertain about his future.

One month later…
The rhythmic pounding of fists against leather echoed through the empty training room inside a gym in Geumjong District, Busan. The sharp sound that broke through the oppressive silence was coming from Kang Sunghwa, one of South Korea's top Alpha boxers.
Everyone who saw him would see the result of his relentless training for years. The man's body was a perfect blend of muscle and control. Each of his punches was fast with precise aim, like a machine. His movements were fluid, but not with his mind.
The 27-year-old Alpha gritted his teeth, a sheen of sweat coating his tan skin as he slammed his fists into the sandbag again, and again, and again...
"Haa... Damn it...!" Sunghwa muttered under his breath, resting his forehead against the bag.
The man's wide chest rose and fell in heavy rhythm as he tried to control his labored breathing. His body pulsed with tension and his expression was filled with frustration.
But was the frustration gnawing at him coming from his intense training?
No.
It was his rut; a ferocious and unrelenting storm of need that roared beneath his skin and clawing at his every nerve.
No Alpha could fully control their rut cycle, but this one felt different. It was more intense and almost unbearable.
There was a match coming in just a few days, a fight he couldn't afford to lose. But his rut had other plans.
The Alpha had taken his medication, hoping it would dull the ache, but it barely took the edge off. His instincts screamed at him and his body burned from the inside like aflame, craving a release he stubbornly refused to give in to.
"Shit...!" He hissed, slamming his fist into the bag one last time before stepping back. His muscles rippled with effort and glistened in sweat.
Without another word, Sunghwa stormed toward the gym's bathroom. He immediately shed his clothes as he went, desperate for relief from the stifling heat. Under the cold spray of the shower, the man clenched his fists and let the freezing water pour over his overheated body. The icy sting helped, even if it was just for a moment.
He then leaned his head back, closing his eyes and feeling the water trickle down his muscles as his mind raced. The rut was worse than ever this time. He felt like no matter how strong he was and no matter how much willpower he had, his body still screamed for something more… for someone…
After what felt like an eternity, the heat began to subside. Sunghwa quickly dried off, running his fingers through his black hair, and stared at his own reflection in the mirror with his sharp golden eyes. He looked like a wild beast who was restrained by a thin line of control.
"Damn rut…" he muttered in frustration.
He glanced at his watch; it was still 9 p.m. He was supposed to train for another hour, but there was no point in continuing.
No… I can't do this anymore…! Sunghwa said to himself.
The man changed his outfits, packed his duffel bag, and left the locker room. He needed to get home as soon as possible and rest before he did something reckless. But just as Sunghwa reached the parking lot, his phone suddenly buzzed.
The man grumbled and picked up the call. The name that appeared on the screen made his brows furrow.
It was his coach, Lee Taeyong.
"Sunghwa, where the hell are you?"
"I had to leave early," Sunghwa replied, irritation creeping into his voice.
"You didn't think to tell me? You've got a big fight coming up and you're bailing on training? What the hell's going on, Sunghwa?"
"I've got it under control!" he snapped, more forcefully than intended. "Haa… Don't worry about me."
There was a long pause before the old man continued, "This better not be about your rut... You need to focus, Sunghwa. Do you understand?"
"I said, I've got it!" Sunghwa growled and hung up the call before his coach could say anything more. He wasn't in the mood for a lecture now.
The Alpha climbed into his sleek, black electric sports car, then revved the engine as he pulled out of the parking lot.
As he sped along the winding lanes, the city was silent, illuminated by streetlights. His body was still throbbing from the lingering effects of his rut, and his mind was racing.
Suddenly, as the man turned onto a dark street, something moved from the shadows and dashed out into the road toward his car.
"What the fuck!?"
Sunghwa applied the brakes instantly and swerved to avoid colliding with them. His car screeched before stopping. The man immediately came out from the vehicle to check on the mysterious figure he almost hit.
It was a young man… Lying on the asphalt and barely conscious, with silver hair that gleamed faintly under the streetlights. His clothes were torn, his body covered in bruises and wounds. But there was something else… An intoxicating scent, sweet and heady, lingered in the air.
An Omega..?
Sunghwa knelt beside the figure, his sharp gaze scanning the young man's frail body. His delicate features, pale skin, and small stature were unlike anyone Sunghwa had seen around here. And more than that, it was clear that the mysterious person was a foreigner.
"Hey, can you hear me?" Sunghwa asked, shaking the boy's shoulder gently.
But there was no response. The Omega remained still with shallow breath.
"Shit...!" Sunghwa muttered under his breath. The scent coming off the young man was almost overwhelming.
The Alpha's instincts suddenly flared. His rut which was almost temporarily subdued, now roared back to life, igniting his body with an uncontrollable desire. But Sunghwa shook his head and tried to push it down.
This wasn't the time for that! This Omega needed help! the man said to himself.
Sunghwa then lifted the young man into his arms with ease, feeling the warmth of the stranger's fragile body against his own.
There was no denying it… This Omega wasn't just any stranger.
Something about him called to Sunghwa on a primal level, stirring an instinct the Alpha hadn't felt before.
And that terrified him…
