"Alright, I think I'm ready." Happy stood in an open field in some deserted land in Texas. The dry land and hot air made him sweat like Bellatrix under the heat from Voldemort. The little bushes around brought no shade either, so they really felt the burn.
"This is your tenth try. As you said, unless you do it, we're not going back." Newt oversaw Happy's first try at teleportation, Zouwu style. Normal Apparition was very easy for him after he had practiced it, but creating the strange portal was hard as he had to be running while doing it.
Panting, Happy emptied a bottle of water. He wore nothing on his upper body, while on the lower part, he only wore red sports shorts. On his was a headband for soaking sweat,
"Ah…I'm dying…Why did I decide to do this…" He complained and began to run again, slowly picking up speed. He calmed his thoughts and focused on the destination he had in mind, which was a nearby wooden shack they had rented, and it had cool air conditioning, as well as a lot of food, which boosted Happy's desire to go there.
The three rules of D were fulfilled, and Happy was prepared to go. He mimicked Jade and leaped forward while holding his wand tight in his hand.
"Haaaaaa…..!"
Focus-Focus-Focus.
That was all he had in mind while making the jump. He wished for the portal to appear and look just like it did when Jade showed him the jump.
Boom!
A strong flicker of blue light appeared in front of him, which kept pulling him inside. Happy kept his focus strong at the destination and entered the light. After that, it was as if he was being propelled through a long tunnel made of fluttering black curtains all around him.
In front of him, he could easily see the shack he was supposed to arrive at. Delighted, he willed himself to go faster, and before he even knew it, the whole magical miracle was over, and he found himself outside the portal.
But what annoyed him was that his momentum remained the same, so when he came out, he was still running. If he didn't stop himself with force, he would have struck the shack's wall head-on.
"YES! YES!" Happy bellowed in cheers, shouting at the sky with satisfaction. "Thank you, Grandpa! You are the best—I am your forever absolute believer!"
"Ummah!" He knelt down and kissed the ground. "Ugh! Fuck, dirt's in my mouth now…Wait, there is food inside!"
With that in mind, he ran into the shack. The delightful cool air from the air conditioner instantly eased his mood. While the food on the table made his day; plates full of pastries, jars of iced tea, and some other delicacies greeted him.
Woosh!
Anxious and concerned, Newt apparated there with Koko perched on his shoulder. He let out a sigh of relief to see him eating safely, free from any adverse physical effects.
"Mr. Scamander, I did it!" Happy chirped with a mouthful of pastry. "But, we should try to go a longer distance after this. Perhaps directly to the New York residence. Also, this time I want you to chase after me."
Happy suggested that because, as far as he knew, from the scene in the movie when Newt jumped, the cat beasts also followed behind despite not touching Jade, the wonderful Zouwu. So, he wondered if it actually worked like a genuine teleportation for those around him as well.
"That's dangerous," Newt warned him.
"I'm feeling lucky today, Sir. Let's do it. Besides, now I know exactly what to do to open it, so I won't be tired from running." Happy confidently said, finishing up the jar of Iced tea and the rest of the food.
"Let's go." Happy said, still naked above the waist. "If this works, the whole world would just be a step away for me."
"I'm not sure, Happy."
Happy smirked and still proceeded. "Here I go!"
"Wait~"
Newt ended up running after Happy, looking at Happy's naked back. He couldn't believe he was doing foolish things again after promising Tina just a day ago. But again, he had been making such promises to her ever since they fell for each other.
Woosh!
Just then, Newt saw the beautiful magic as a strange light appeared and then the big tunnel. The distorted time and space surrounding them resembled raging black curtains, but in less than a second, the view changed again.
Bam!
Newt didn't leap, so he fell due to the momentum once he came out of the portal. Unharmed, he looked left and right, his eyes in shock at the recognizable ceiling above.
"W-We're home? Seventeen hundred miles away?" Newt muttered in shock, as even he couldn't apparate that far without making short stops every few hundred kilometers.
"Hahaha!" Happy's loud, victory laugh echoed. "I did it! I can easily travel the entire Europe with this!"
"..."
Newt remained shocked and in disbelief. He had witnessed history in the making; a wizard had discovered a new form of magic. But this raised a question in Newt's mind, an answer that all wizard historians had been seeking.
'Just like how Happy did it, did we wizards initially learn magic from magical beasts in the first place?' He wondered, because, logically speaking, humans appeared later than the first magical beast's appearance, as found through archeological findings.
Or, it could also mean that wizards came from a certain deviation in the evolution of humanity. Some wizards might have inherited genetic traits that allowed them to harness magic.
Newt watched the young wizard dance with his goose, cheering at the accomplishment, for it truly meant a lifeline for him.
"Happy, how do you think one should start their research when trying to find the evolution of wizards? Where magic came from?" Newt asked on a whim.
Happy looked at him, thinking deeply. "Evolution? Hmm… If I was to do it, I'd rather hire some muggle scientists to study DNA and other things from the skeleton of the oldest wizard we can find. Then we could compare it with the skeleton of the oldest human skeleton found—find out the difference, and we'd know the answer, wouldn't we?"
"..."
"Muggles have such technology?" Newt felt perplexed.
Happy scoffed. "They made nuclear bombs and reached the moon without using magic. Why wouldn't they have such machines?"
"..."
"I-I… I need to go!" Newt felt inspired like never before. Perhaps, he could finish the final volume of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them—adding the comprehensive history of all magic.
"Mr. Scamander! I will be leaving in an hour." Happy stopped the man. "As I had promised, I only intended to stay here for a month. It's been longer than that already."
"Leave? But where will you go?" Newt inquired with seriousness. "It won't be safe for you."
"Nowhere is safe for me, Mr. Scamander. But I'm no criminal to hide away. For now, I'm going to Grandma's home, and then I'll return to London." Happy revealed his plan. "I wanted to thank you for letting me study here… This will really help me."
Newt awkwardly smiled. He was never good with people, but he made an effort. "Not the last goodbye, Happy. Perhaps I'll come and teach Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts someday."
"That would be wonderful." Happy smiled brightly and walked forward. "As a thank you, please accept this gift."
Newt accepted the small black vial with great interest. "What is this?"
"Basilisk's venom from the Chamber of Secrets." Happy explained. "You can also get some of its bones from Hogwarts if you want to study its DNA with muggle science. It can help you a lot."
Taken aback and stuttering, Newt placed his old wrinkled hand on Happy's shoulder. "Thank you, this gift is beyond any treasure I possess. You're a good child, Happy… If you're ever in need of help, don't hesitate to contact me. I have quite a few helpful beast friends, particularly the Zouwu and Nundu you befriended."
Kindness earns kindness, and hatred earns hatred. And for Happy, the happiest boy in the world, it was more than welcomed. At last, the Lestrange name was regaining its rightful glory—a true, noble house that did noble things.
"See you soon, Mr. Scamander. I'll go and pack my bags."
…
The middle of August had arrived, and only a few days were left before the beginning of yet another school year. But, just as the holidays were coming to an end, a new strange article appeared on the front page of Daily Prophet, written by none other than Rita Skeeter.
[Severus Snape! Bane of Basilisk: Hogwarts' Severus Snape to receive Order of Merlin First Class instead of Second Class. The Ministry recognized the great deed by seeing the size of Basilisk vanquished in the Chamber of Secrets. Not caring about his own life, and responding to his duty—Professor Snape went headfirst into the unknown dark chambers to protect the school…]
The article spread like wildfire. Everyone loved a heroic tale every now and then, after all. The women of wizarding Britain instantly replaced the scammer Lockhart from their hearts with Severus Snape, the Bane of Basilisk.
Exaggerated and over-glorified, Rita wrote the article as if she was right there when the battle happened. It was beautifully written with an actual photo of the Basilisk's skeleton, with its size compared by Rita standing beside it herself.
In no time, the newspaper found itself on the highest table on the Ministry of Magic, on Minister Fudge's table.
BAM!
But the Minister was far from happy as he slammed the paper on the table and growled like a hungry beast. "When did I sign for this? Only the Second Order was promised… Who is spreading this?"
Knock! Knock!
Just then, the door was knocked, and Lucius Malfoy entered before getting permission. His blood status allowed him to ignore all those annoying things.
Gracefully, he walked to the table of the Minister, who always seemed terrified of his proud presence.
"Lord Malfoy, what brought you here today?"
Lucius took out a letter wax sealed with the Lestrange crest and placed it on the table. "You have been invited to the United States, Minister Fudge. To a dinner at the MACUSA's President's home—the adopted grandmother of Happy Lestrange."
"WHAT!" Fuge felt the floor shake. "How?!"
Lucius smirked at the view. Certainly, he made the right choice going with the Lestrange boy. He firmly believed that.
"Perhaps fate."
