I took the long way home and drank a lot of scotch. I neglected my family for two weeks while I played pool at a dive bar. I phoned in sick and only occasionally got out of bed to get a bowl of cereal, top up my drink, or use the restroom, where I would give myself the finger while staring in the mirror. I was a helpless mess and had no clue how to get myself together.

Dad sent me regular voicemails with business updates, while Mom delivered food to my door. I received more scotch from Mina.

Finally, Henry arrived at my home with the only set of extra keys, drenched me with cold water, and then handed me some Chinese takeout. I ate as he threatened to decorate my home with images of Emily if I didn't get my act together and go back to work.
