On Sunday evening as I was getting ready for my trip, I heard my phone ping from the bed next to my luggage. Reading her name on the screen gave me a little thrill.

Tomorrow at 11:30, I'll pick you up. Near the arrival displays at Terminal B. When you land, text," she said.

The realization that we would be together tomorrow caused me to halt for a second. "I will. Thank you," I said.

"Thanks for asking. Is everything okay?" she enquired.

She asking me about the remainder of my week surprised me a little. This was such unexplored ground for us. We texted and emailed regularly while working, but the conversations were typically limited to basic yes or no responses. Nothing personal ever. Had she had a week that was equally frustrating?

"Great. You? How's your dad doing? As I sent the message, I chuckled; this thing just kept getting weirder. I got another message in less than a minute.

He is doing well. I can't wait to go home because I've missed him.
