Xue Lian recalled her past, thinking back to the conversation she once had with her father...
At that moment, her father appeared utterly disheartened. He had once been very proud of himself, but after being corrected by her just once, it was as if all his vitality had vanished. The things he had once been proud of now seemed like nothing more than trash.
Freedom? He didn't have it.
Status? He lacked that as well. Compared to the vast universe, he was nothing more than garbage.
Now, the only thing he had left that wasn't entirely bad was his family; everything else was utterly worthless.
"Xue Lian, if you speak like this, then what's the meaning of having a family, of having children?"
"The meaning? Isn't it too simple? Of course, it's to find an opponent to face for the rest of your life. Think about it, random opponents in the world might try to kill you, but the chances of family doing so are much lower. The most enjoyable thing in life is having a rival to constantly battle with; otherwise, it's such a pity." Xue Lian said casually.
In her view, having a worthy opponent was an incredibly marvelous thing. To be honest, she didn't have the heart to fatally strike her rivals. But the current situation was different. If it were humans, she wouldn't kill them. But other races? Ha ha, of course, she would wipe them all out.
"An opponent, huh?" her father muttered, then looked toward her, thinking about his wife.
"A child as small as you, how could you be my rival?"
"My goodness, that's exactly why they need to be trained! Otherwise, where would you find a lifelong rival who wouldn't go for kill you? It's hard to find something free in this world, so being proactive makes everything easier to achieve." Xue Lian replied.
She thought her father was truly foolish, but when she reflected more, everyone she had ever met was even more foolish than him. She sighed:
"Sigh, humanity may have countless complex inventions, but they can't even understand basic matters. It's truly bizarre."
Seeing her acting like an old sage, it was almost funny, but no one could laugh given the serious atmosphere at that moment.
Her father, on the other hand, remained completely silent, organizing his thoughts. Soon, he would come to a conclusion.
After all, he was a successful businessman, so his intellect wasn't entirely lacking.
As for Xue Lian, she had no idea how long it would take her father, but she believed he would figure it out quickly, so she sat there, waiting.
A moment later, he looked at her and smiled, bowing his head as he said:
"Thank you."
His demeanor was extremely respectful, as if she were his teacher, someone far superior to him.
The so-called hierarchy is nothing but a shackle that prevents people from attaining freedom.
Simply put, if you respect someone, that person automatically ranks above you, unless you're an emperor, in which case you can only be on equal footing.
But there's no way around it; an emperor isn't truly free but instead is someone who has lost all freedom.
They are surrounded by many chains, not because they can't break free, but because if they do, millions, even billions, would face catastrophe.
"Do you truly understand now?" Xue Lian asked.
"Of course. Don't underestimate me, I'm quite intelligent. From now on, you are my child, but also not my child."
His tone was relaxed, not forced in the slightest, and his expression was equally at ease. He was quickly approaching what could be considered true freedom.
Xue Lian stood up, patted his shoulder, and laughed:
"Ha ha, good, very good. You've finally understood. You're the first person I've met who could grasp it."
"I should be the one thanking you for enlightening me. You can be considered my teacher now. No need to say more, I acknowledge it myself. From the moment I gained consciousness until now, I've never felt as wonderful as I do now. I finally understand what freedom feels like. Freedom isn't just a word, it's both a mindset and power. Oh right, do you have any dreams or things you want to do?"
"Of course, I have things I want to do, and they're incredibly interesting. I want to become the strongest creature."
Hearing this, her father was momentarily stunned. At first, he thought he misheard, but it was clear he hadn't.
She said she wanted to become the strongest creature, not the strongest person. These two things had vastly different meanings.
However, as a truly free person, he would never say something was impossible. A free person fundamentally fears no consequences.
"Ha ha, well, keep at it. First, become the strongest human."
.....
"The strongest human? I've already done that. As for becoming the strongest creature, who knows? After all, the universe is vast. I wonder what that old man is up to now? Ah well, I'll go to sleep. Forget him. After all, being a truly free person means taking life and death lightly. Do whatever you want. Does it matter whether you live or die?" Xue Lian muttered.
The reason her mother wasn't mentioned was that she had passed away several years ago.
But it wasn't something sad or tragic. After all, the entire family had been educated by her to become truly free people. Even their guardian was a free person, so life or death didn't hold much importance.
Being a free person meant living with that kind of ease—losing a rival, losing someone interesting, and simply smiling in celebration.
Celebrate what? Her mother had lived to the age of forty, so of course, they celebrated the end of her forty-year journey.
Forty years of gazing upon the sky and the earth, forty years of meeting countless people, forty years of experiencing the ups and downs of life.
That's something to celebrate, so why mourn? Ordinary people differ from free people in that they wander aimlessly in unconsciousness.
They don't understand how to proceed toward the future, where their life is headed, or what the meaning of their existence is. So they create endless rules to give themselves a sense of stability, a feeling that their lives are well-lived.
But in reality, the more rules they create, the more they lose their freedom. The more they achieve within the confines of those self-imposed rules, the more their freedom slips away.
Is it too late to change? No, of course not. As long as you're still breathing, you still have a chance to attain freedom.
What are you telling me? That you're too old to change? I'm sorry, but you're mistaken. The day you believe you're too old, the day you think you can no longer strive for anything, that's the day you truly become garbage without potential.
I don't believe in what you're saying, and I certainly don't believe you're trash. Remember this: You are capable of reaching freedom. You are capable of immortality. You are someone who can make every dream come true.
Remember that! You can do anything. Never give up! Never become true garbage!
