章節 21: The Protected Warehouses

The human mind is fragile when they know that their loved ones and their future are at stake; it only takes a small spark to ignite fear in their hearts, and that is more than enough to control them.

Dominic was right when he knew how to manipulate the information at his disposal; just seeing all those military trucks entering his shelter was more than enough to know that he had done the right thing.

Stuart had made the decision to believe him, but he wasn't foolish, as he verified all the information before making a decision. According to his reports, there was a call to bring back the reserve troops to all bases in the country.

In his understanding, this only implies two things: either they are going to war or something very big is happening. But he didn't want to take any risks; his family came first, and that included all his men, totaling more than three hundred.

Looking at the place being redesigned to have everything needed in a situation where everything collapses, at least Stuart knew they would have more opportunities to survive here than outside.

"The weaponry will be brought in gradually by cargo helicopters. Why do we need so much weaponry? If we are going to take shelter here, we won't need so many weapons of all kinds."

Stuart looked at his companion and said, "We don't know how long we'll be here. According to the man I contacted, it's best to have at our disposal things that will serve us for the next ten years."

"Bring everything down and take it to the main warehouse. I want machine guns placed on the lookout posts. Motion sensors—I want them in the forest behind us, and let's maintain a perimeter for authorized personnel only," Stuart shouted, fulfilling his duty to protect this place.

All his soldiers said goodbye to their families and began to work; they knew something about what he was saying, so they didn't ask more questions because they would soon get answers.

Meanwhile, Dominic was checking that all the most dangerous equipment was well taken care of. The weapons were in the same place as the futuristic valuables, tools, and important spare parts. Additionally, food was very essential, especially those that lasted for ten years.

"All warehouses have blocked access for unwanted personnel; we have divided the accesses so that you can be sure no one steals your things."

Dominic looked at how everything was well sealed and asked, "What do I do if someone tries to force their way in?"

"There's a defense mechanism that will burn everything from the inside out if you press the button in this briefcase. The containers won't be lost as they are completely sealed, so don't worry about that."

"Then thank you for your services." Dominic paid the man who installed this and also took care of automating the common doors, reinforcing the main doors, and ventilating the place by connecting it to the solar panel source.

Dominic thought this was a good idea; he could send everyone to the other world with a simple button press, but it wasn't necessary at all; it would serve for decontamination, but there were better methods to get rid of those who wanted to take his things.

"I should call my uncle..." Dominic didn't want to contact his uncle for fear of not having enough for everyone, but now he had a huge place that needed to be protected by many people. Labor was also necessary; simply for that, he needed more people.

According to the original events of this world, Dominic knew that eventually there would be nothing to drink or eat. It would be great if, in the first three years, he took over the city of Los Angeles, but he knew it was bombed by the military to the point that it would end up in pieces.

But even if that were the case, this was the perfect place because they had a direct connection to the ports. Dominic even bought some warehouses in that place where he hid boats, good fishing boats, and more optimal equipment.

If they secured that place, they could even have direct contact with survivors from the sea, offer refuge, and create a power of order that rivals other organizations of the future.

If he called his uncle, who was really a good friend of his father, he and his group, mostly Mexicans, would be a good point to make his group even more diverse. Languages weren't something that came easy to Dominic, but if his group is large, they must think big.

In this world, there will be two groups: those who live to survive, and those who survive to build. Dominic didn't want to work too hard, but it was the best path he could take.

There were also good islands near Los Angeles that could serve as their main base, a place where walkers couldn't reach and where those attacks that a certain organization couldn't carry out against him could be carried out.

With around seven islands that could be used, Dominic expanded his plans for later. Of course, these would come into play if his group increased in numbers.

"We'll need cargo helicopters; they're hard to get and very expensive, but if Nelson gets sponsors, I don't think we should steal them." Dominic thought as he left the place through the back door.

It wasn't time for others to know him yet; many wouldn't like following the orders of a child. If that was his concern, he should call his uncle to stabilize power in this place. At the end of the day, the one with the biggest weapon controls the board.
