章節 182: A Word Game

He paid no attention to the gunshots behind him, nor to the screams and cries of the survivors who were cruelly killed by the gunfire from the Beaver community soldiers.

Reginald looked back at Jack and slowly said, "Now, Jack, can you tell me what you're really doing in this place?"

The corner of his mouth twisted, and Jack was genuinely at a loss for words and didn't know how to respond for a moment.

Originally, according to the relevant regulations and the community protocols, those squads that encounter unknown communities from the base are expected to establish a friendly relationship, but these people are far from normal.

It requires strict review to make an absolute decision. After all, many things are unpredictable, and a lot of data is needed before revealing much information to these kinds of people, so they have to carefully consider everything they say next.

But just like that, Reginald, without saying anything, approached and asked Jack what was going on with him and his community, openly questioning him with increasing suspicion. This kind of behavior already gave them an idea of who these people were and what they were willing to do.

Regarding this point, Jack was also very aware. Although he didn't know why, he understood that the other party could be either good or bad.

So, no matter what, he wouldn't give an answer that would cast doubt on his credibility, so he could only reply, "We are in search of resources and also survivors; that's the main task of our group."

"Yes..."

There was a brief silence, and Reginald remained indifferent but didn't want to delay much on this topic, so he said, "Since you are looking for resources and survivors, your situation must be good given your equipment and the physical conditions you're in."

As he spoke, he raised his hand to greet the soldiers beside him and continued, "If you're willing, I'm more than happy to invest in our community and establish cooperative relationships where we could help each other in the future."

"In that case, my team and I are willing to accompany you."

"But no weapons are allowed; you must understand that, right?"

When Reginald said this, Jack took a few seconds to respond, "Of course, we're happy to hand over our firearms, but we'd appreciate it if we could keep our knives in case of infected threats."

"Since you've shown trust, I will too."

A few soldiers among them responded, walked toward Jack and the others, and took all offensive weapons from their bodies.

During this time, several soldiers were on alert with Jack's group, but soon discovered that everyone was very cooperative and didn't dare show resistance, so everyone had to be friendly.

Jack wasn't nervous; in fact, he made the best decision someone in his position could make. After all, if he faced these crazy people, they might start an attack that his group wouldn't survive.

But instead, if he cooperated, the drone in the sky would see their situation, and in the worst case, they could help with air support and contact the incoming group.

Reginald's words of disarmament at this moment put Jack's group with their backs against the wall.

Jack looked at Reginald and said, "Sir, since you're kindly inviting us to your refuge, half of our men will stay in this place, as it would be too much trouble for all of us to go together. They can take care of our weapons themselves."

"That sounds good to me."

As if he hadn't noticed the cunning expressions of Jack and the others, Reginald openly accepted and said, "But it would be a shame if they didn't accompany us; this place has been very dangerous lately."

"They are soldiers, sir."

After handing over the weapons, several soldiers from the second floor came down fully armed and with masks covering their faces. When everyone saw their combat suits, they felt a chill and handed over their weapons.

"Tell the base that we've established communication with a survivor base; it might be important for them to know."

"Yes, sir."

After leaving those words, Jack, Emma, and another soldier accompanied the group of strangers to their base.

When Reginald got into the car, he saw the house and all those soldiers fully equipped as if they were going to war, and a soldier beside him said, "They all have military tags; they are definitely soldiers."

Looking at the mess on the road, Reginald turned away and lightly said, "Hmph, I must take care of my own, and these people could be either allies or enemies."

"Do you think it's wise to eliminate everyone who wants to join the Wolf group?"

Hearing this, the soldier showed a surprised expression and said, "Whatever happens, it's better not to be careless and to be careful that they can't influence our decisions."

"We still don't really know what's going on."

Regarding the opponent's point of view, Reginald didn't refute it and said, "The people with the Wolves are a group full of idiots; they don't understand the concept of tools and only use them to cause harm and then die after fulfilling that purpose."

"Do we have moles in the base?"

"Of course we do..."

Reginald nodded and said, "But this is possibly all we know, there's no clear information to draw from, and possibly both the WlF, the organization that arrived by boat, or the two organizations beyond this place, are separate groups. The power of those organizations is comparable to the government before the walkers, and we may already have more infiltrators than we know in our community."

"Well, then I won't ask anymore."

Seeing that confidentiality was involved, although the soldier thought he had a good relationship with one of the surviving leaders, he also knew that it was enough. He looked at the escort team that was moving away and said, "Is it really okay for us to do this? They already realized that we don't trust them."

"Some things can't be done without special means, and they know too that we have no choice and are just protecting ourselves from those who want to harm us."

Reginald's eyes flickered, and he said, "Listen well, they are the only ones who can get us out of the sandstorm we're standing in; they might be the only ones."

"Sir, but their uniform is the same as in the reports..."

The soldier murmured a name, with a look of nostalgia on his face, but still said, "But the report didn't say clearly; we can only speculate, but they should be the same ones who attacked us."

"Also, it seems Julio knows. We must stop any conflict if you want to establish a relationship with them."

"Wise words..."

Reginald shook his head, sighed softly, and said, "But I have the vague feeling that whatever happens, we won't come out of this well, and we'll have to succumb to one side. The board is set in Carolina, and the most mysterious group of all is those people."

"So, what are you going to do with what we know?"

"Nothing; first I'll talk to the leaders and tell them what we know."

Reginald thought for a moment and then reached a conclusion. After all, regarding the current situation of their group's division, no matter how big the disturbance is, once the drop hits, a tsunami will drown them.

But after thinking about it, Reginald still said, "But just in case, we have to act as quickly as possible."

"Fine, once we arrive, I'll guide them to the meeting room."

"Good..."

...

Three Spirits Community.

"Unexpectedly, we are in this situation..."

Escorted by some soldiers in the rear, Jack and the others slowly thought about walking forward. The people and soldiers who passed by all looked at them and naturally noticed that their uniforms were different.

Some were also astonished by the bursts of gunfire that had been heard and didn't know what was happening. Of course, they were very curious when they saw this situation.

Being watched like a monkey, Jack, of course, said, "We must remain calm."

"Keep moving!"

While Jack was speaking, the soldier behind him pushed him hard and made him stumble forward.

"Please show some respect."

Seeing her captain being treated that way, Emma frowned and coldly said, "You don't know whose tail you're stepping on."

But the soldier turned a deaf ear to her words, only looked at him coldly, and said in a cold tone, "Keep walking."

"You son of a bitch!"

Seeing that the soldier's attitude was so bad, Jack, who was pushed, kept his calm and said, "It's okay; they're nervous since they don't know who to trust."

"We just need to stay calm and assess the situation; our people already know what's happening in this place."

"Yes, sir..."
