章節 28: Chapter 28: The Apocalypse Approaches

The angrier Logan became, the wider his smile grew, though the coldness in his eyes could freeze anyone in their tracks.

He suddenly started to look forward to the arrival of the apocalypse.

At least in the apocalypse, evil was absolute.

The officers standing in front of him were taken aback by Logan's almost maniacal grin.

It was the kind of expression typically seen on deranged killers.

And what did he just say? Video evidence?

The officer's expression changed, and he quickly reached out to snatch the phone from Logan's hand.

However, as if Logan had predicted this, he calmly took two steps back before the officer could even get close.

"I'll show it to you," Logan said, as he started to navigate his phone.

Seeing this, the officer made a quick move to grab Logan.

But Logan, as if he had eyes on the back of his head, deftly dodged the attempt.

Once might have been a coincidence, but twice was enough to shock everyone present.

This man was remarkably skilled!

No wonder he had been able to take down five people by himself.

"Why are you suddenly trying to grab my phone? You scared me so much that I uploaded the video online," Logan said innocently, showing the screen to everyone.

Jerry Li's father, Richard Li, turned pale with rage.

Before coming here, Richard Li had confirmed with the landlord that there were no surveillance cameras in the warehouse, which was why he had reluctantly come to deal with this situation, under pressure from his son.

The landlord hadn't expected that Logan, who had only rented the warehouse for a month, would install surveillance cameras.

If the conversation they had in the corner had indeed been uploaded online, it could escalate, dragging both of them—and others—into trouble.

The call Richard Li had just made was to the head of the Harbor City police department.

If this small matter were to implicate the police chief, it would trigger a chain of events.

The network of connections Richard Li had painstakingly built in Harbor City over the years could be severely damaged!

Richard Li glared fiercely at Jerry Li, but now was not the time to deal with his troublesome son.

He needed to stop the online video from spreading before it could cause damage.

Unfortunately for him, he didn't know that Logan's tens of thousands of followers had already seen the video he had "accidentally" posted and had begun sharing it like crazy.

It was too late for Richard Li to stop it.

The thin man seemed to realize something as well, his expression visibly shifting.

If there were surveillance cameras, then wouldn't the footage of him starting the fire in the early hours also be captured?

And the footage of them causing trouble earlier?

The thin man's eyes blazed with fury as he looked at Logan. The confidence he had initially was gone, and he hurried over to Richard Li.

"Take him away!!" the officer shouted angrily, and the others quickly stepped forward to apprehend Logan.

Logan didn't resist and cooperated with a smile, even allowing them to take his phone.

"I can walk on my own. Liam, make sure to pack everything up in the warehouse and load it onto a truck parked in the lot next door. I'll be back soon," Logan instructed.

The warehouse guard, Liam, nodded hurriedly.

Logan was escorted into the police car.

The warehouse was left with only Liam.

What had happened today had completely upended his worldview; he had never seen such a gutsy boss.

But now that the boss had been taken away by the police, Liam was worried about whether he'd even get paid.

As Logan was taken away, sandwiched between two officers, there wasn't a hint of tension on his face.

The car hadn't gone far when the officer sitting next to Logan received a phone call.

A moment later, he looked at Logan with a strange expression and handed the phone to the officer who had confronted Logan earlier.

"Captain, it's for you."

So this guy was the captain, Logan raised an eyebrow.

The officer, referred to as the captain, took the phone. His face turned from pale to red, then from red to black, as he nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, yes... right... yes, yes..."

After hanging up, he immediately ordered:

"Stop the car!"

The car quickly pulled over to the side of the road.

"You can go."

The captain stared at Logan with a look of deep resentment, as if he were unwilling but had no choice.

Logan smiled and extended his hand:

"My phone?"

"Your phone contains evidence and is needed for the investigation."

Logan shrugged, got out of the car, and walked away.

The captain kept watching Logan until he was out of sight, then finally looked away.

...

Logan went and got a replacement SIM card, and then bought a new phone.

Sure enough, the video he had posted had caused quite a stir.

A huge stir.

If the apocalypse weren't about to happen, Logan would have no idea how many enemies he had just made. A person with no background like him could easily disappear without a trace in a city like Harbor City.

But now, Logan feared nothing.

Logan took down the video and deleted his social media account.

He had achieved his goal and had no desire to attract more attention.

When he returned to the warehouse, Liam was still arranging for a truck and was surprised to see Logan back so soon.

Logan settled his wages, sent Liam away, and then locked the warehouse door. He took inventory of everything inside.

A small portion of the goods, specifically ten sleds that Logan had ordered online, had been burned.

Logan had originally planned to buy a few sled dogs for use during the apocalypse.

Now that the sleds were burned, he decided to let it go.

Some other equipment that had been thrown into the rain hadn't been damaged.

After storing everything in his space, Logan immediately booked a flight back to South City and left Harbor City.

Soon, a major scandal broke out in Harbor City involving a prominent businessman suspected of engaging in illicit deals with government officials.

That businessman was none other than Jerry Li's father.

It seemed that without the apocalypse, this spoiled rich kid wouldn't be living the high life anymore.

The incident implicated several people, and one officer even lost his job.

However, Logan wasn't focused on this incident; his attention was on the words "Spark Energy Company" mentioned in the news.

A deep, hidden hatred flashed in his eyes.

A few days later, Logan received a sudden call from the school, informing him that due to prolonged absence, he had been expelled.

Logan knew someone was behind this, but this kind of petty move didn't bother him at all.

For the next two months, he stayed in South City to oversee the construction of the shelter.

Most of his time was spent practicing the "Health Preservation Technique."

He took a brief trip back to Harbor City to pick up the goods he had ordered from Sidney, and then left immediately, avoiding a plot that had been set up against him.

On May 25th, the shelter was finally completed.

The project took just over two months and cost Logan over $9 million, all spent on materials and labor.

The semi-circular shelter had no windows, only a chimney and an entrance.

From the back, it looked like a metal sphere embedded in the ground.

The door consisted of two layers—an outer door and an inner door—both made of heavy explosion-proof material.

Anyone entering or leaving would have to go through both doors.

One of the workers joked that the shelter could withstand the shockwaves of a nuclear explosion.

Inside, the shelter was equipped with squat toilets, a fire pit, a cooking stove, and a heater—all designed to function without electricity.

All the wiring was installed inside the walls; though it affected the aesthetics, it made repairs easier.

A water pipe was connected from the well to supply the shelter with water.

Logan had the well cover sealed completely to prevent the water from freezing easily.

Now, all that was left was to move in the living supplies from his space, and the shelter would be ready for habitation.

And there were only six days left until the solar flare.
