章節 2: The Lonely Descent
'I lived…'
I couldn't believe myself for actually surviving that explosion. God must've been by my side, otherwise, I would've been as good as dead.
Weakly leaning against the rough bark of the nearest tree, my heart was pounding in my chest. A simple glance over the burning car and its remains told me how bad it could've been.
'My leg isn't doing well, though. But I guess that's pretty natural.'
With trembling hands, I ripped the remaining pieces of cloth from my legs and examined the injury. Putting it simply: it was unsightly. A deep scar would surely settle there, no doubt about it.
'I can't let the bleeding continue.'
So, despite how it was probably not the best course of action—taken into consideration how questionable the hygiene of the clothes were—I ended up trying to clean the wound a bit and wrap it up. A poorly-made makeshift bandage, crude, but sufficient.
'This forest is too dark.'
A foreboding feeling was gnawing at my heart with the silence around me. Nothing but trees and the storm noises sounded around, I knew I had to leave this place immediately.
With a staggering body, I crawled out of that place. Each step sent a wave of intense pain throughout my body as I moved forward. However, I couldn't even have the time to think about my pain.
'I was betrayed, huh?'
Due to the pain and my body getting used to the shock, my mind wandered in the wrong direction. The images of William holding Sara dearly in his arms, securing her in his strong arms while leaving me behind, were more hurtful than I imagined.
Nonetheless, it wasn't the time to dwell on that pain. I shoved all my emotions deep within my heart and moved on. An omega's body was something fragile and weak, although I was okay now, there was nothing to ensure my survival on a later note.
Everything was getting blurry but I held on. However, the path was so dark and steep, so I ended up losing my footing.
'Shit!' The pain was killing me as I rolled down the mountain. Swiftly covering my face and head with my arms to protect myself, I endured the pain. A soft cry escaped past my lips.
"Ah!"
… I really just wanted to scream for help, but the wild animals will get attracted to me instead. Thankfully I had some suppressants before coming to this trip or else, my body may have been triggered and caused great inconvenience to me.
Finally stopping at the feet of the mountain, I shakily stood up, ragged breaths passing from my mouth as I struggled to move.
'It should be safe from wild animals here.'
I fell to my feet, unable to move any longer. My weak body was screaming and throwing me into a turmoil of agony, my eyes teared up but the tears were washed by the rain immediately.
No one would see my weakness even upon rescuing me.
"Young lady!"
"Come here, the young lady is found!"
'Ah… Thank goodness.'
They found me. Great, now I'm sure I can rest.
The workers of the place rushed toward me, their faces filled with horror and concern. My mouth tried to move so I could explain what they should've done, but alas, my energy had already ran out.
All that adrenaline was finally running out.
Only four words were said by me after so long:
"William… And Sara… Bring those two to me."
'They cannot escape me.'
Seeing them nodding and discussing with each other as they lifted me up and carried me away, I was a little relieved. They were competent, there was surely no need for me to worry about that aspect.
'Dizzy…'
Letting out a shaky sigh, my eyes closed. The workers' voices turned into a blur, the warmth of the cabin they took me in was relaxing. Someone was examining my injuries, that was painful…
My world was slowly turning darker and darker.
"Find them… Don't let them run away…"
"...lease…est…oung lady."
I couldn't even hear that properly, but I'll trust my people.
Once I open my eyes again, I won't be able to escape this painful life any longer.

'This stink.'
The sterile smell of the hospital invaded my nostrils without mercy, but that at least made me confirm where I was. There was no pain, so I assumed some drugs were numbing me.
Reluctantly opening my eyes, the harsh white lights were blinding me, "Ugh…"
Nonetheless, I looked around, my eyes not able to register everything, but a few details were clear.
Bandaged legs, wrapped up and clean body, an IV drip— yeah, I was now at the hospital. Our workers are truly capable.
With a soft rustle, I found the nurse sitting in the corner standing up carefully and coming to check on me. With a warm smile, she handed me a glass of water.
"Please sit down and drink some water," she said as she helped me to fix my posture.
'Great, at least capable people are around me.'
My hands were shaking as I took the glass but I forced them to be steady enough to drink. The cool water made me let out a content sigh, it was refreshing and my throat felt soothed.
"Thank you for your help. You can allow the bodyguards to come in."
"That may not be the best immediately, young lady."
"Hmm? Why is that?"
"Perhaps due to your injury, you don't notice, but your pheromones are a bit out of sorts. We need to give you another suppressant before allowing any alpha or beta to enter."
'Ah. Wait—'
"How long have I been asleep?"
"A week, young lady."
'Phew…safe. Almost thought I missed taking my heat suppressant in time. Without anyone to help, it would've been hell.'
"Alright, please help me."
The suppressant the nurse gave me was cool, a swift injection. A slight stinging sensation, that was all it was.
After that, she allowed my bodyguards to get into the room. I noticed two people who were lowering their heads like some kind of guilty dog.
"William, Sara."
"E-Emma…"
Sara stuttered before she was shoved toward my bed by the bodyguard. My eyes flickered to William who tried to reach her but paused his movements.
'What a coward.'
But I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by this.
"You two look awful. What kind of eye bags are you having, and this appearance… I honestly can't understand. Didn't you abandon me? How come I look better than you two, isn't this just ridiculous?"
They looked ugly and unsightly to say the least. Karma did its trick so fast, but I decided to not show my glee so fast.
William and Sara looked at each other with trembling eyes, a few moments passed and Sara broke down. She fell next to my bed and cried loudly, apologizing with tears.
"I, I'm so sorry! Emma, I'm terribly sorry!"
"Save the tears, you are too loud."
And I couldn't care less about her apology.
Clearly, however, she wouldn't be a good source for answers. Thus I turned my head to William. Our eyes met, and I could see him flinch.
Taking a deep breath, I asked: "Why did you save her and not me?"
…How could I not know the answer?
Perhaps it was my own weakness making me ask this stupid question, but I couldn't help it. The physical pain was numbed, but the psychological pain of those moments where my dearest person heartlessly abandoned me would never disappear.
My words caused him to freeze, his eyes darting across the room, he wanted to escape.
A simple question, yet the implications of it made the situation awkward. I just wanted to hear an answer whether it was painful or not.
"You abandoned me and saved her, Sara, my best friend. You left your girlfriend, your future mate, to die."
What a terrible joke.
"Make it make sense, bastard."
The betrayal I felt was stronger than I thought, my words were laced with passive rage.
After shifting uncomfortably like a damn virgin in love before confessing her feelings, William finally decided to man up. Shame on his balls for taking that long.
"I'm sorry-"
'Ain't no way, that man had to be joking.'
Something inside me snapped, I no longer could tolerate this thing.
"Oh for fuck sake, you actually took so long to apologize like that? Are you a pussy? Shame on your alpha's pheromones! Don't lie to me and give it straight, are you in a relationship with that slut omega or not?!"
