RJ breathed heavy, put his hands through his hair, and closed his eyes. He hoped his affirmation of love wasn’t too late.13

When the call came through, Pad couldn’t resist. “It’s about effing time you called me back. I called you hours ago when I was home”

“Hey, I had classes. And I had to work. So fuck off,” Jack said.

“I love you too, asshole.”

“So what’s up? You and Wayne had a fight already?”

“Nope. The exact opposite.”

“All right, so fill me in.”

Pad blurted. “He sent me red roses, man. Red roses.”

“Did you fuck him?”

“No. Why would you ask that?”

“Okay, bad question. Did he fuck you?”

Pad hesitated. He knew his mistake the minute he didn’t respond right away.

“I knew it. You tramp, you slut.”

“Listen. I didn’t call you to get all crapped on.”

“What’s the problem then?”

“Before I got the roses, RJ told me he loved me.”
