章節 479: C479

Okita Souji didn't say anything and refocused on her attempts to break through the monster's layers of divine authorities. However, her efforts felt more like defense than actual attacks.

With three stacks of [God Slayer C], everyone had a special edge against gods. But this abomination, enhanced by multiple divine authorities, was in a league of its own. Even specialized attacks seemed useless against it.

That didn't mean they were out of options, though. he took a quick inventory of his own mana.

[Mana: B+]

Both Kaleidosticks were frantically pulling in mana from other parallel worlds, flooding his system. This was way more efficient than his Evil Flower. After all, one relied on absorbing mana from people's evil thoughts, while the other tapped directly into an endless supply from multiple worlds.

But to him, it still wasn't fast enough. He sighed, and the light emanating from him began to climb up the blade of Caliburn, causing the sword's outline to glow softly.

His mana was filling up, and his first Noble Phantasm was gradually taking shape.

Thunder roared and flames crackled, piercing the darkness that had blanketed the Temple of Time. Kiritsugu took a slow puff from his cigarette and shifted in his seat. This was a battle of god-like beings; as a mere mortal, he figured he might as well enjoy his smoke.

In the corner of the battlefield, the Demon God Pillar Barbatos was busy duking it out with the One-eyed Giants, cackling in his signature "Heh heh hah!" laughter.

The clash was something to behold. Barbatos was firing off his eye beams, while the One-eyed Giants countered with swings of their enormous clubs. They were evenly matched, each proving to be a formidable opponent for the other. Their clash felt like a high-stakes showdown on some mountaintop, and every move they made caused the very space to hum with their power.

Barbatos grew increasingly pumped as the battle continued. It was convinced that it would be the one to defeat the most one-eyed giants. Once that happened, even its fellow Demon God Pillars would have to show it some respect!

What Barbatos didn't realize was that the other Demon God Pillars had already teamed up, thanks to some highly competent Heroic Spirit supporters. Together, they had vanquished the one-eyed giants in their respective areas and were now launching a united assault on the abomination. Barbatos was the only one still engrossed in its delusion of an epic battle.

Meanwhile, Counter Guardian Emiya rose to his feet, brushing off his backside.

"What are you doing?" Kiritsugu, his fellow Counter Guardian, asked.

"Missions like this don't come around often. I'd hate to miss out."

"And what do you think you'll accomplish? That's a level of fighting we're not equipped for."

"Speak for yourself, old man. You may not have a place on that battlefield, but I can still make a difference with some long-range bombardments. You just stay here and enjoy your smoke."

With that, he patted his backside, gave a casual wave, and walked away, leaving Kiritsugu staring at his departing silhouette.

Kiritsugu exhaled a ring of smoke and slid the dagger he'd been holding back into his pocket.

It was fine. People are different, and Heroic Spirits are no exception. His forte was taking out humans, not killing gods.

So, when gods were clashing, it probably made sense for him to keep his distance. The last thing he wanted was to become a liability. With that thought, Kiritsugu continued to puff on his smoke.

Then, out of nowhere, a thunderous "boom" filled the air as a black bolt of lightning crashed down from the sky, landing uncomfortably close and leaving him covered in dirt and ash.

Kiritsugu was at a loss for words. He had just been minding his own business, enjoying his smoke, when he was nearly struck by lightning!

Indeed, this is exactly what happened when gods fought, and mortals were caught in the crossfire.

Boom, boom!

The black thunderbolts kept coming, each one striking closer and closer.

With a reluctant sigh, Kiritsugu tossed away his cigarette, clutched his head, and made a run for it, dodging lightning and flames as he went.

Finally finding cover in a trench, he was now completely covered in dirt and ash from the near-miss lightning strikes.

He let out another sigh. What a messy situation he'd found himself in.

Uncommonly called upon for a mission that wasn't about taking someone's life, he found himself playing hide-and-seek in a trench while the real fighters did their thing.

The trench rustled, and another face appeared, also covered in dirt and ash. It was Pandora.

His eyebrow shot up. He didn't recognize her, but the aura of calamity around her was hard to miss.

Sensing his immediate hostility, Pandora stood to make a run for it but tripped as he lunged, taking her down with a thud.

Quickly pinning her hands, he pressed his dagger to her throat and said in an icy tone, "Don't move!"

"I'm not your enemy. Let me go," Pandora wriggled for a moment but then spoke calmly.

Kiritsugu's lips curled into a slight smirk. In the end, he still had a use.

Meanwhile, back in the temple's main hall,

"Roar, roar, roar, roar, roar—"

The abomination unleashed a spine-chilling roar, its soundwaves powerful enough to push back the gathered Heroic Spirits.

"Vessel, vessel, vessel..."

Numerous faces embedded in the monster's flesh let out harrowing cries. The sound was like the haunting whispers of ancient gods, leaving those who heard it feeling dizzy and disoriented.

Fragments of the destroyed Fuyuki City were strewn all over the temple. Among these fragments, Camelot's soldiers were locked in combat with eerie humanoid creatures. Swords clashed, warriors fell and rose again, and the fires of battle left no space untouched.

The abomination had adapted to the magical energy supplied by Zelretch and began to unleash its devastating powers in a fierce counterattack. It sent ripples of thunder and fire across the battlefield, forcing all the Heroic Spirits to retreat. Even Scathach, with her [God Slayer A], was easily pushed back.

Gilgamesh scowled as he tried to use his Chains of Heaven in an attempt to restrict the abomination's movements, but the abomination effortlessly repelled the chains using the magical energy provided by Zelretch.

The old man, trapped within the abomination and acting as its power supply, let loose a stream of curses.

Solomon drummed his fingers on the armrest of his throne. The energy from seventy-one Demon God Pillars came together, slicing through the old man's magical torrent.

Rumble...

Using this opportunity, the Chains of Heaven finally managed to restrain the abomination.

"Hmph," Gilgamesh lifted his head and let out a snort of satisfaction.

Gilgamesh was clearly pleased with his Chains of Heaven's performance, but his satisfaction was short-lived. In a surprising turn of events, the creature's body turned to mud, enveloping and trapping the Chains of Heaven before hardening once again.

Furious and humiliated, Gilgamesh couldn't contain himself. "How dare you defile my Noble Phantasms with your vile form... Are you in that much of a hurry to meet your end, you mongrel?"

With that, Gilgamesh swung open the gates of his treasury, calling forth an arsenal of divine weapons he'd amassed over the years. One by one, he unleashed them, sending them flying towards the creature.

Boom, boom!

Despite the staggering force behind Gilgamesh's Noble Phantasms, it couldn't penetrate the monster's multiple layers of authority.

Almost immediately, the abomination retaliated. A storm of black thunderbolts erupted, slashing through the earth like lightning whips, and headed straight for Gilgamesh.

Gilgamesh summoned a flurry of shields, but with a resounding "crack," they shattered, and he was struck by the electrical onslaught. Though not life-threatening, the attack left him covered in soot and scorch marks.

The old man inside the monster couldn't resist taunting him. Gilgamesh shot the old man an irate glare before turning his attention to Shirou. "How much longer must we wait for your mana to recover, Fujimura Shirou?"

Gilgamesh was fully aware of what Shirou was capable of. Regardless of whether his own weapon, Ea, could obliterate the abomination, it could certainly tear a hole in the conceptual fabric of the temple, potentially giving the abomination a way out. That's why he'd held back from using it.

In this tight spot, the one thing that could tip the scales in their favor was Shirou's Noble Phantasm.

And thanks to Gilgamesh's Sha Naqba Imuru, he understood the true nature of Shirou's first Noble Phantasm and its potency against divine beings.

Shirou checked his mana, "Almost there, won't be much longer!"
