Scott's POV
As I set my eyes on Ava that morning, my heartbeat increased. I didn't expect her to be so dutiful. Infact, I knew she had a car, so definitely she was playing games with me. Yes!! I saw her walk towards a car when she left the bank yesterday. She should've just gone straight to the bank. If she was trying to get my attention, I needed to show her that I didn't care.
I walked back into my room and stood before the bedside mirror. I checked myself out from all angles, something I had done before I stepped out. I grew restless as I paced around my room, I couldn't say I was nervous, I wasn't supposed to be. After a while, I simply sat on my bed intending to waste as much time as I could.
My phone rang and I picked it up. "Sir, the P.A is still waiting," I heard Jordan's voice. "Keep her waiting." I hung up. I lay on the bed and the call came again not long after. "Sir, it's 8:00am already, you mentioned you have an appointment to meet up with by 8:30am."
"Whoo!" I exclaimed, jumping out of bed. I had completely forgotten about my appointment. I picked up my perfume and started with four spritzes, then eight, and then I lost count, before I finally stepped out.
I found Ava right where I left her earlier, still in the guest parlour looking as sharp as ever, albeit a bit drowsy, perhaps my plan had worked a little too well. Walking past her, I pretended not to notice the fact that she was sleeping. "Follow me," I said over my shoulder without turning to know if she acknowledged my words or not.
Getting into the car, I watched in amusement as she hurried towards the car, probably thinking I was going to leave her — not that I was going to, but she didn't know that.
"Took you long enough." I said from the back seat, without looking towards Ava's direction. "You kept me waiting for half an hour," she voiced, crossing her arms. I looked at my wristwatch, feigning ignorance. "Oh! You're correct. That serves you right for walking out on me." I smirked. She cussed under her breath and got into the car.
Her presence could not be ignored in the car, as she sat beside me. Different memories struck my mind, as I stole frequent glances at her. "Ma'am you smell nice," Jordan complimented and a calm smile graced her lips.
"Keep driving!" I uttered. Ava rolled her eyes on me. I kept staring at her for a long while till she returned her gaze to Jordan. "Thank you." She replied to his remark.
"Wow, how easily women can be deceived." I clapped my hands. She smiled. I found her smile rather intimidating, since it was not what I expected of her at that point. I needed an attack, a challenge from her. "Well, your makeup is awful." I added in a bitter tone. I stared at her, giving her a disgusted look. "You know it's not," She chuckled softly. I remained silent afterwards, trying as much as possible not to steal glances at her.
It wasn't long before she slept off, I let her head rest on my shoulder. As I gazed at Ava's sleeping form, my mind raced with conflicting emotions. On the one hand, I felt a strong attraction to her, a magnetic pull that made it difficult to look away. However, I couldn't help feeling a sense of satisfaction at the thought of making her wait outside the gate.
But as I watched her sleep, her head resting on my shoulder, I felt a pang of guilt. Was I being too harsh? Was I letting my pride get in the way of what could be a second chance at something great? I wasn't sure, and the uncertainty was maddening.
I wanted to maintain control, to show her that I was the one in charge, but at the same time, I couldn't deny the feelings she stirred within me. It was a battle between my head and my heart, and I wasn't sure which would win.
Her beauty, her intelligence, her confidence - they all combined to make her a formidable presence, even in her slumber.
