Chapter 3: Knowledge is Power
~Rou POV~
Another year has finally come and gone with me at 3 years old finally being able to start focusing on reading and writing with the books lying around my parent's home… or more or less there.
Those two are important for what I have planned once I get back my old writing and penmanship again or at least decent enough for me to work with.
Of course, with the paper being somewhat expensive I had to settle with writing on the dirt because getting the paper is more of an upper or middle class kind of thing out of my reach considering the Tenrou Village situation.
Fucking noble class…
They are the fucking 1% while where the 99% are without any means to grow knowledge.
Amatively though there were some concepts and terms I wasn't familiar with my mom or dad helped out from time to time when they have free time for me to tell what's what and all that.
Still, I try to at times limit my actions as much as possible before having my parents settle in with the idea that to them, I'm a prodigy in their eyes because of how advanced I'm going compared to normal kids.
I pretty much broke the milestone chart of speech and development phases when I began to act up around 2 years old.
Hell, my parents were suspecting me of something off that they took me to their private doctors, a village in the community nearby to have me checked out for any mental problems they thought I had acting way out of line for kids.
For one I'm appalled that they thought I had mental problems, to begin with!
And second I don't really blame them for assuming something off with my early interactions with them but the doctor confirmed that I was growing normally if not just a bit more than my peer's growth rate.
But the doctor let me off saying that I was good and asked if I had magic to which he said no much to my dismay.
And the Doc was a Wizard showing off his Magic to prove his degree which I call bullshit of a Witch Doctor but sadly I had to accept that reality.
Although I did understand why though considering at the time 10% of people in this world are Wizards by birth and 90% of us normies have none only through hard work that we have to make up for it.
Although once I get my Alchemy down that's going to change pronto!
Not having magic in a magic-filled world is literally a death sentence in the past considering Wizard Guilds are all about those magic bullshits these days!
However, I have the plan to change all of that but for now, it simply relies on my wits to change that fate then through the books for me.
But regardless I looked around the village in my free time to get a better feel for my environment as well as ask the locals along with our Tenrou Village library our Elder request to learn more about our home island.
To be honest, though I'm searching for the more likely places where I can test my Alchemy in secret along with finding a hiding spot for myself to train.
With my current development being no magic physical training is a must along with breathing practices I have in mind from Demon Slayer but that's a long way from being useful, so regular exercise works for me.
Tenrou Island, known for its hot, summer climate, is located far from the mainland. It noted that because of the clashing currents that are present in the area, Tenrou Island is unaffected by other climates and weather systems, which keeps the temperature high all year long.
Tenrou Island stands alone in the middle of the sea, with no other isles visible in the surrounding area. It is a mildly small, rocky, and steep island covered by lush vegetation, both bright yellow and green in color.
One side of the island is shown to be particularly rocky, possessing large formations jutting outwards from the ground, one near the shore, protruding above the sea, and the other near the center of the island, overlooking it; the latter has a pair of waterfalls falling down from it in a small lake below.
Topping such second rocky formation stands the most distinctive element of the island: The Great Tenrou Tree, a gigantic tree with a gnarled, mildly curved trunk, ending in a number of large branches which sustain something that has been described as being similar to an island on top of an island, being a large, flat section composed of earth and crowded by a multitude of normal-sized trees.
The gargantuan plant possesses a multitude of similarly large, curved, and twisted roots, which right below the trunk sustain massive lumps of the earth; something which creates some sort of covered area right below the tree itself.
Still can't believe how big that tree is compared to the ones I know…
And trust me when I say that tree is the size of a fucking mountain honestly.
Aside from the lush vegetation covering most of it, an extremely thick forest is also present on the island, crowded with large, gnarled, and twisted trees with large roots, which are covered in moss, and whose branches almost create a natural roof preventing sunlight from lighting up the place, which as a result is darker than other parts of the island.
And aside from that learning from the books that contain Tenrou Island I won't be short of testing subjects or sparing partners because of the location here.
The reason why they made a Village here in this spot is because of the natural flowers guarding the area outside the village protect us as the pollen in the Tenrou flowers messes with the senses of animals as repellents forcing them back to their own sections of the island.
Tenrou Island is inhabited by a variety of peculiar animals, inhabiting specific zones of the island. Some of them are shown to be large and aggressive, something which only contributed to making the Exam held there in the future more difficult.
Fortunately, the map they have here has details about them and what to be wary of along with their drawings of the creatures in question and their habits.
The Rollidillo inhabits the southern part of the island. It is a massive, strong, quadrupedal reptilian creature with a large mouth full of sharp teeth. Its body is covered in very hard scales, and, whenever it gets serious, it curls it up and rolls over enemies.
The Doscadon, living in the northwestern part of the island, is an enormous, carnivorous dinosaur-like creature covered in scales and walking on its rear legs, with its forelegs being smaller in comparison, much like a real tyrannosaurus rex. It possesses a prominent, dark round section topping the upper front part of its head, which it uses to headbutt prey to eat, something which it's proud of.
The Curily is a small rodent-like creature covered in light fur, sporting a long tail and large, dark ears. It inhabits the northern part of the island but goes south when it's winter, in spite of Tenrou's constant climate.
The Clipper is a mildly large bird with a prominent crest and seemingly mobile, horn-like protrusions sprouting from the ending part of its abdomen. It inhabits the central western part of the island, and it's known for being very brutal, attacking in flocks.
The Hodras, inhabiting the southwestern part of the island, is a massive, strong pig-like creature covered in dark spots, believed to be related to the pigs it shares the appearance with. It is not unique to Tenrou Island, being quite common in Fiore.
The Cubina Gamal, which inhabits the northeastern part of the island, is a large and bizarre herbivorous creature, which can range from 5 to 7 meters. It has short, thin limbs, and human-like hands, stands on its rear legs, and possesses a pair of hanging antenna-like protrusions sprouting from the sides of its head. Curiously enough, few of them can understand human language and similarly speak it.
The Bakshi is a small, reptilian creature highly reminiscent of a chameleon, inhabiting the eastern part of the island. It is capable of camouflaging into the wood and dirt, something which makes it difficult to spot, and hunts for bugs.
The Tenrou Squirrel is a small rodent-like creature, which, as the name suggests, is highly reminiscent of a squirrel, with dark spots covering its back. As again implied by its name, it only lives on Tenrou Island, inhabiting its southern part, and is an extremely uncommon sight even for scholars who have studied all of the world's organisms.
And those are just the animals, or I guess Magical Beasts in the area to worry about as the insects here are unique and different from any animal, I come across back on Earth.
I couldn't help but smile at the discovery that is yet to be found or new methods of Magic to be made…
Tch.
I couldn't help but involuntary twitch when the word Magic comes to my mind because I can't use it naturally not being born with it making me jealous of the Wizard Guild here which I hate very much that the Tenrou Villagers have to tread lightly.
The Red Lizard Guild a Mage Guild here that does provide protection service more or less.
Red Lizard Guild's location was situated on Tenrou Island. Its main headquarters is located near a small village.
Back in the year X679, Mavis Vermillion, future Guild Master of Fairy Tail, once served as Red Lizard's janitor in payment of her deceased parents' debt to Zeeself. He along with his daughter Zera, and the subordinates of his guild treated Mavis very harshly.
One day, Red Lizard was under attack by its rival guild, Blue Skull. Despite the Red Lizard Mages' efforts to fend them off, the entire guild was destroyed along with the village. This left Mavis and supposedly Zera the only survivors.
And Zeeself himself is a real piece of work alright.
Twitching my lips at that idiot I ignore the thought for now because frankly with how intelligent and diligent I am the Elder in our small village thought to send me to school which I denied as I would rather learn more by myself using their library spending most times here to better my understanding.
Don't get me wrong I don't go to school learning everything about this world but…
I would rather learn at my own pace because everyone else would slow me down and I would rather avoid Zera because of how spoiled and how she thought she was smarter than everyone to which I would roll my eyes.
I don't want her father to come to me for something stupid as slow down so his daughter could be smarter than me.
Why the hell would I let someone like her be smarter than me?
Probably out of fear I would be burned to death or scared by her father Fire Magic.
Hence why I avoid her and the school like the plague as I would rather learn at my own pace at peace.
As the saying goes knowledge is power.
And I need a whole lot of power.
