"Hmm?" A young man looked around since the cold wind made him feel as if someone was observing him.
That young man was heading toward his small apartment carrying a plastic bag filled with energy drinks when a sudden and unexpected wave of cold wind passed by him. Winter had just started. The cold wind made Bruce feel shivers, and the hair on his back began to stand.
After confirming that no one was nearby, Bruce shrugged. It was Saturday night, 07:00 PM. He concluded that his imagination had fooled him since he had just woken up. It was a strange time to woke up, but given that Bruce was a creature of the night, it was the norm for him to spend the day sleeping and the nights gaming. Bruce was one big and lazy gamer, after all.
The light-brown-haired young man had a small birthday party just the night before. As one would expect from someone one who just turned twenty, Bruce enjoy the party all night… playing computer games alone in his apartment. Those energy drinks he was carrying were to continue the party from yesterday… no, the party that ended that morning.
After a couple of minutes, Bruce arrived at his apartment. Bruce sighed at how messy things were. His 'home' was barely five meters long and wide. Still, it looked messy, like a warzone… all due to the fact that the living room, kitchen, and his bedroom were basically in the same place… and because Bruce was lazy.
"… I won't be able to relax like this," Bruce sighed. "Better clean up this a little bit."
While Bruce was cleaning his home, he recalled the previous years. Bruce had been a good student when he was a kid, good enough to get decent grades just by listening to the classes. However, things got difficult in high school. Just paying attention to the classes wasn't enough for him… because he wasn't paying attention to the classes anymore. In fact, he spent most of his time at school sleeping due to his bad habit of staying all night gaming.
Bruce barely managed to graduate from high school with laughable grades, and obviously, he wasn't accepted in any college. After 'studying' for one year, Bruce's situation didn't improve, and since he wasn't putting in any effort, his parents decided to disown him. Although Bruce was their sole son, none of them hesitated in doing so, all because they come from a family that has famous and talented members in all kinds of fields. Bruce's mother was a famous plastic surgeon, and his father was a high-ranked officer in the army. In order not to let the black sheep of the family decrease their brightness, they did what they did.
Since then, Bruce improved a little, but just a little. It was amazing how much one could grow up after starving for a few days. In the beginning, Bruce had to sell several of his precious games and consoles to pay for his living expenses. Still, now he was managing to survive thanks to some part-time jobs. He couldn't let his collection of games and consoles suffer such a drastic fate, after all.
"Phew," Bruce smiled while cleaning the sweat on his forehead. "It is weird how satisfied one can feel after doing some cleaning… that being said, that feeling of satisfaction is so easy to forget while it is so much easier to just relax and sit back. Well, enough of that, it is time to…"
Bruce stopped his monologue when he felt that cold wind again. He frowned since the window and the door of his apartment were both closed, and despite being cheap, his place was surprisingly warm. As if that wasn't strange enough, Bruce began to see something weird in front of his eyes… not, it wasn't in front of him, it was in him. Bruce saw some electric currents passing through his field of vision, and then he began to hear those as well. It was weird, but Bruce couldn't feel any pain despite it. However, such thoughts disappear from his mind when something else appears in the corner of his vision.

"Eh?" Bruce muttered in shock.
Bruce recognized the HUD bar; the colors were red, blue, and green. It was just like a game… his heart began to beat faster, but before Bruce could even wonder if his brain had finally rotten, he heard a weird voice coming from nowhere.
"Attention, inhabitants of Earth. God has disappeared. Your planet has been elected to participate in the election of the new god of the universe. Thanks to it, all humans will receive several benefits. Even if the new god isn't from your race, your race still will be able to evolve in a short amount of time. However, to gain something, we all need to sacrifice something of the same value. The election will be a test where every single member of all races will be tested. Survive and become stronger and then perhaps you will become the next god… or die a dog's death."
The last sentence made Bruce frown since the voice at first seemed pretty emotionless. However, that was a minor detail. It was happening… it was happening what Bruce had dreamt of several times. It was a magical apocalypse! He couldn't care less about the final reward or the reason behind everything. He just wished many times for something to happen that could take him out of his boring life, and that very something just happened.

When those light blue screens began to appear in front of him one after the other, Bruce's brown eyes began to shine. It was really happening; if he was going insane and that was all just a crazy dream, then it would be a real pity, but honestly, he couldn't believe that was the case. Although he wasn't athletic, he was at the peak of his youth; he was healthy as a bull, despite everything. Besides, he never felt any weird symptoms in any part of his body. It wasn't a dream; it was reality!
However, his ecstasy ended when Bruce heard something behind him, and it was the sound of something that had just fallen on the floor. He turned around, and then Bruce opened his mouth in shock.
