章節 382: DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN!

9 FEBRUARY, TUESDAY, CONT'

After the introductions were over, everyone dispersed back to their little groups to drink or chat.

Alpha James turned to me, "So Alpha Sam, what do you think of your new pack?"

I'm not sure if the horror showed on my face. Suddenly I understood what Mum meant about this being my future pack and family and I could not think of anything kind to say.

My new pack. Why would I ever exchange Night Leaf for this crazy theatre?

Yes, this world with white marbled everything and crystal dangling on high mosaic glass ceilings, indoor pools just for lilies to grow in, and mountains of white roses on the side tables (but only on the days Ki was present, just saying).

Where everyone wore fancy costumes and titles. Where the ladies floated about like elegant swans, their glittery jewels clinking quietly, their laughter so soft and gentle.

Where the food was arranged like art and tasted delicious but you would never be comfortable enough to really enjoy it.

And your notable deltas held secret meetings behind your back.

Furthermore, my dress was too tight, my feet hurt, I realized I didn't like being looked at when the looker's eyes flicked up and down my body, sometimes more than once, before returning to my face. Or if my mating bangle was examined closely for any speck of color. Of course it was as bright and white as when I first got it, but I actually stood a little behind Mate a lot tonight just to avoid the scrutiny.

And maybe it wasn't reasonable for me to feel this way, but I didn't know or feel a particular connection to anyone here.

"Poor child, she's overwhelmed." Lady Amber came to my rescue kindly.

Alpha James nodded his understanding, "I understand, Lorent wolves can be quite intimidating."

To which Mate was quick to dismiss, "Please Old Man, have you met a Night Leaf warrior? One of those would easily take out five of ours."

"That's why we always shoot first and ask later!" Gamma Michaels laughed heartily.

Dad remained silent, and no one else dared to laugh. Even Alpha James looked uncomfortable.

"It was just a joke!" Gamma Michaels said in his defence.

"Just like this morning's shooting of that Morning Light youth was just an unfortunate accident?" Ki asked blandly.

Suddenly the tension thickened like a sudden fog. No one else was smiling anymore.

Mum was rubbing Dad's back.

"Who got shot?" I asked.

"Ethan." Harvey answered gravely, "Marlow carried him back. His condition has since stabalized."

I swallowed. Ethan.

"Why?" I asked, "Was he laughing too loud?"

I felt my wolf rise.

"We have since apologized." Gamma Micheals said, "And they had shot back at us."

"It was a good thing no one else was injured." Delta Emerson said smoothly, "Wasn't your son, Dominic, there too?"

Everyone looked at Dom, who merely shrugged it off, "They taunted us first. The loud one wouldn't to shut up. Some of the guys lost their cool and fired."

"In what way was that an accident?" I asked.

There was a silence.

"There were some of you and two of them?" I asked again.

Silence.

"Did you shoot, Dom?"

Dom looked at Bell.

I flared, "Don't think just because my Luna is your friend, anything changes. Did you or did you not shoot?"

"I shot, but mine was just a warning shot. It was Chad who shot him." Dom said.

I looked at Delta Emerson, "So your son was there too? Why didn't you say so?"

Wow, Boo was so on the roll. I'd like to see anyone call me "slow" now.

"I want to see every Lorent guy who was at the shooting. Now." I decided. I smiled at Ki.

Ki smiled at Dom, "Sorry, buddy. Call them out now."

The hall had stopped it's chirping and buzzing and clinking. Dom, Chad, Gavin, Howard came forward, and then three more adult warriors bowed and entered the hall. That made 7 Lorent wolves against 2 Morning Light clowns.

"Sam..." Mum started, but Dad held her back.

Boo smiled, "Were you the heroes who shot at the Morning Light youths today?"

Silence.

"I understand you found them annoying. Honestly I find them annoying too, but you shot, why? Were they trespassing?"

Silence.

I didn't think so. Ethan and Marlow were clowns, not idiots.

"Answer when you're spoken to." Ki ordered.

"No... no, princess. They were not trespassing." Dom answered.

"Ben, give me your gun." I said.

"Princess, these boys will be punished serverely." Delta Williams tried to say.

Ben handed me his gun.

"Why weren't they punished sooner?" I asked.

Silence.

"Answer the question." Ki ordered.

"It was just boys getting into the usual trouble." Delta Emerson explained, "We didn't think much of it."

"So not warriors breaking protocol, all these guys were just boys... loitering along the borders, armed with guns?" I asked.

"Yes, well you know how the borders are dangerous..." Delta Emerson said.

"And those three?" I indicated to the warriors in uniforms.

"They are warriors." Delta Emerson reluctantly admitted, "They would be dealt with."

The pallor of the three men was immediately like death.

"They were only following our orders." Dom said then.

"Dominic. Do not speak out of turn!" Gamma Micheals scolded.

"Don't worry, Dom. All of you will get punished the same." I assured him.

"But we're the future deltas!" Chad protested.

"And I'm your future Alpha." I said.

"And a very beautiful one too, if I might add." Dom smiled.

"No. You might not add. But you may have the gun." I gave it to him.

"You shot my wolves. Now I will give you a chance to shoot me. I dare you shoot me." I said.

"I can't shoot you. You're my best friend's mate." Dom said.

"Feel free to pass the gun to someone who doesn't like Bell then." I offered, "I don't care. Just know that this gun will be your only chance to stop me."

"What are you going to do, beat us up?" Chad asked. He stepped forward, "Give me the gun. I'll shoot her."

Dom didn't. "You can't. She's our future Luna."

"I'm your future Alpha." I corrected.

"Someone needs to teach you your place b****." Chad said. He snatched the gun from Dom.

I smiled, "I've been told that before. Now I'm going to beat all 7 of you up. Except for this gun, no other weapons are allowed. You may attack or defend. You may surrender but you will owe me a very heavy forfeit. You may help each other, but you may not receive help from anyone else."

I looked to the wolves who have gathered to watch. There was conveniently a large golden circle drawn around the centre of the ballroom, "No one may pass this circle, or throw anything into it. If you try, my betas will make you regret it."

"Sam... Stop." Mum said, "Please."

I shook my head, "No. Sorry Mum. But if anyone shoot my wolves, they shoot me."

I looked squarely at Chad, "I dare you to shoot me."

Immediately, Dom raised his hand, "I surrender."

The three warriors raised their hands too.

"No!" Chad ordered, "You're not allowed to surrender! I'll shoot her! Just watch."

The warriors lowered their hands.

"You're not the boss of me, Chad." Dom said.

By now Delta Emerson was beginning to worry. I think he had expected my Dad to stop me. But Dad must really be more p***ed than he looked, because he was obviously rooting for me to beat these guys up.

Delta Emerson turned to his Alpha, "Alpha Lorent, you must stop this madness before an innocent shooting accident blows up into a full scale war."

"Stay out of this, Old Man." Rebel growled, "I'll take care of it."

Mate made a move to step forward but Ki blocked him, "Sorry Luna. No one is allowed across the line."

"Do not test me, Ki." Mate growled, "I will not watch my Princess on the firing line."

"Try not to hurt my beta, Bell. If you can't watch, you may excuse yourself." I called back.

Then, ignoring Mates low growl, I turned to the 7 wolves in front of me, "Dom you may step out of the circle."

Dom hesitated, "I think I had better stay. You might really get hurt-"

I punched him and kicked him out. Harvey had caught him before he fell back on his butt and propped him back upright with a friendly pat on the back.

My betas had spread themselves around the circle, their wolves on alert. Good betas.

Chad shot. And the game began. I was about to duck when I realised my parents were directly behind me.

The realization panicked me and suddenly my hand shifted, it was a half shift, my arm got blue and furry below my elbow and my hand sprouted black claws, I jumped and grabbed at the bullet. It burned in my hand and was quickly followed by the smell of blood.

Everyone froze. I landed, nearly twisting my ankle on the stupid heels. My right hand shifted back but I continued holding it straight out away from my body so the blood would not get on my dress. It only took a moment to heal. Just a bad rope burn. I opened my hand and the bullet I was holding fell out with a quiet clink. But the ballroom was so silent, you could hear a bullet drop.

"How many bullets were in that gun?" I asked. I was smiling. {So fun}

"3" Ben answered.

I bombed alpha dominance, "2 more shots. Try not to hit the onlookers."

"You're crazy!" Chad pretty much yelled, "You're a monster!"

Yeah, I know I am, but what are you?

My hair was flaring in all directions, my eyes were glowing, I knew without looking. My wolf Boo was in control.

I walked forward. Chad shot again. But his hand was shaking and his shot was off. I simply lifted my arm to avoid it and let it hit Delta Emerson.

"Urghhh..." Delta Emerson went down.

I laughed a little, "One more, Chad. Hurry. I want my turn."

Chad dropped the gun and raised his hands, "I surrender."

Immediately the three warrior wolves surrendered too.

Howard and Gavin looked at each other.

"Hey, we were just playing you know." Howard said, "We didn't mean it."

"Me too." I said, "I'm just playing too."

The two guys took a step back. Howard looked at the gun on the floor.

"Come on Gavin, it's two against one." Howard decided, "Plus she's just a girl."

Gavin didn't look too sure, "I don't think that's a girl..."

I picked up the gun and offered it to them, butt first, "You wanna try shooting me?"

Gavin shook his head, "No thanks."

"What about you?" I asked Howard.

"I don't need a gun to beat up a girl." Howard said.

"I'm quite sure that isn't a girl, Howl." Gavin said.

"Surrender if you want. I'm going to beat her up." Howard decided.

Gavin looked torn and then he sighed, "I'll stay with you."

Loyalty to an idiot is like tying a noose around your neck and giving the other end to the said idiot.

Howard and Gavin attacked at the same time. They were pretty quick and coordinated (training buddies maybe?), but I was quicker and running on wolf power. The drills were drumming through me in a steady beat. I jumped and kicked one. The other grabbed but I threw him with wolf power. Howard tried to grab for my hair, but my hair avoided his grasp. Clever hair.

I laughed at their futile attempts. And then I kicked one of them quite hard in the stomach and punched the other even harder in the face.

The two guys fell back on the floor.

I stopped. Eh? Was it over already?

I felt my hair slowly fall back as I walked towards them.

"If you guys are playing dead, you better get up before I walk on you with these heels." I warned.

They didn't move.

I prodded one of them with the pointy tip of my shoe.

Howard jumped up and pull his leg away, "Don't! Okay! You win! I surrender!"

Gavin opened an eye, "Can I surrender now?"

Idiots. I laughed, "Okay."

And then I announced, "I win! Everyone who surrendered has to visit Ethan at the hospital everyday till he is discharged. You need to bring him yummy food and comic books and games and can't leave until you laugh at his jokes."

"That's it?" Dom asked with a raised brow.

I grinned and nodded, "That was fun, but next time think twice before you shoot at any of my wolves."

"You know, goddess, technically these will all be your wolves after the merger too." Ki decided to point out to everyone present.

"Only the ones who really follow me." I said.

"Our loyalty to the Alpha Princess!" Harvey shouted.

"Yo!" My three betas and Mate shouted, punching their hands in the air.

I had to say this, just at that moment, I felt for sure they were the coolest guys I had ever known.

"Our loyalty to the Alpha Princess!" Harvey shouted again.

"Yo!" This time more guys shouted. Even Dom, Howard, and Gavin. I noticed Roan who had only watched from the sides, smiling.

"Last chance!" Ki shouted.

"Our loyalty to the Alpha Princess!" My betas shouted in unison.

"YO!" It was loud, it was fierce, it was less than half the ballroom, and mostly the youth, and not even all of them.

But that's okay. Because I won.

I saw Roan nod a small bow to me from afar.

And then Mum grabbed me in a bear hug, "Sam, don't you dare do that again!"

Dad patted my head, "You did good, Sam."

Mum turned sharply at Dad.

"But avoid doing it again." Dad quickly amended.

Mate came over. He said nothing, only folding his arms around his chest as if to bind his fury.

Dom came over to talk to him. Mate acted like he wasn't there, but Dom kept talking by his side.

"So... That's it?" Gamma Micheals asked me. He looked at me with raised brows. It was as if he wanted to figure me out, but couldn't.

Well, I didn't blame him, I couldn't figure me out either.

I've long stopped trying.

"As long as they learn their lesson." I told the Gamma. Because I had to admit, "Ethan can be very annoying."
