"Yes. Why shouldn't we be invited?" Shirley scoffed. 

Actually, even she was surprised when they were informed that they would be invited to Mr. Xander's seventy-fifth birthday party. 

Although their family is rich, they are not from the upper circle. They can only be considered as nouveau riche when compared to other families that are invited. 

Her father rose to these heights only recently. It's only been a decade or so to be precise. And, even for that they had to depend on the Danver family. 

If her father was not the old madam's nephew, they would probably have been living as a middle class family with their jobs as their means to meet daily needs. 

So, it was actually unexpected that they were invited to an event like this. 

After all, the Xander Family is an aristocratic family with a royal bloodline. Their heritage is centuries old and their power is unfathomable. 

So, the Brown family is like an ant in front of the elephant.
