章節 20: NEXT TRY

"What is your name? I think it slipped my mind." He said scratching the back of his head.

"I don't think you asked my name till now." She chuckled, shaking her head not giving in to his trick.

"You caught me." He laughed in embarrassment because how could he forget the basics when meeting someone?

He was pretty sure that something about her was different, luring him into her brown eyes, darker than his. He meets a lot of girls but no one caught his attention till then except for Naomi. The thing with Naomi was something he started for fun but listening to her stories, he had no way than to turn to a softie. She was someone just like him, bearing the pain which her family left behind. Being wrongly accused and punished, something which he had known better than others.

"Well, my name is Lilah as simple as that."

"That's a very rare name for someone like you." He commented, mentally noticing her name.

"Why? Is it too complicated?" She asked confused.

"Not really but a little out of this century I can say. You are too young to bear such a name unless it is ascended to you from your grandmother." He leaned against the railing, focusing on her expressions this time.

"Yo-you caught me too." Kristen laughed awkwardly while tucking her hair behind her ears.

"That is a lie, I can say. But I wouldn't dare question because it could be your privacy." He playfully winked at her to ease the situation. He hates lies unless it comes from him.

"So, I think... I should leave?" She asked not knowing whether it would be a good thing to stay for so long.

"Yea, probably. I have to take Naomi back to her place so maybe we should leave together." He walked back and snatched the car key from the table.

"She doesn't stay with you?" Kristen asked confused as the man seemed to be head over heels for the girl.

"Her work calls are abrupt so she stays there for convenience."

She had no idea why she was asking him such questions and even he seemed to be clueless as to why he was answering her. It just felt right to carry on a conversation and Lucifer had never felt this way with anyone, even Naomi. He never opened up to her but there was still a line of comfort when both were together. No one bothered to ask anything and make each other uncomfortable but they did know one thing, trust... that they trust each other more than their self.

"Okay, then we will see later if God decides," Lilah said as she stepped out of the elevator, back to the dance floor which was now almost empty.

"Don't worry sweetheart, he decides nothing in my life so if you are indulging with me, he better not care about you," he said which was rather like a warning.

"What is your beef with God? He is the reason for your existence?"

"I know, the reason for my existence is literally him and I am against that idea. Sad, I can't turn back the time, or else I would have changed this long back." He walked to the girl who was slow dancing in the crowd and Kristen was watching them.

"He seems hard to understand but I am sure, he is worth my trust."

"Christian, I am fine. I was just busy searching for that devil but he keeps slipping off my hands."

"It would definitely be a handful to catch him. Especially when he is an expert in misleading people but I think you might be able to trace him soon."

"What do you mean by that?" She asked confused earning a small chuckle from the other end.

"Will you let me come with you? If that is the case, then I will share the tea or else you can struggle on your own."

"Hey, you can't trap me like that. I already said that it is impossible for me to take you along." Kristen scolded him.

"I want to help. It just feels so wrong to sit and watch you struggle when I can help you. I am also an Angel even though I live in earth and it hurts my pride." He finally confessed the reason.

"I understand that Christian but this is not the time. Once I get to locate him and know more about that monster, I would definitely seek help from you." She explained.

"Promise to let me know if things get even a little hard for you."

"I sure will but tell me where to find him."

"This sunday, I heard there would be a carnival near the church. I bet he would be there to mess up one thing or the other." Christian confirmed, making her smile a little.

"How sure are you?"

"Very sure because last four times, he came to mess up and this year wouldn't be any different. He is an attention seeker as far as I know and messing this carnival will give him all possible attention."

"But won't that harm him? Every devotees can turn against him." Kristen asked confused.

"No one will move a finger against him because he is the son of their deity. Demons and Lucifer is an entire different league, Lilah." Christian sighed remembering how many times he had to helplessly watch the disaster.

"This year, it is going to be different." She assured him.

"I wish you luck on your next try." He greeted and ended the call, leaving the girl to immerse in the train of thoughts.

"I will be sure to catch you, Devil! I met someone who claims to be you but only if he knew how much of a jerk you are. He is such a sweet person with a lot of charms and then there would be you with a blanket of darkness. I will make you regret everything and seal you in your own dungeon in hell." Kristen smirked to herself before walking to the window, the moon shining brightly.

"You are a mystery and I don't know why you are distracting me now. You are a human and I am in no way allowed to get involved with you." She sighed watching the moon.
