87.01% Demon Island / Chapter 134: The Black Triple Star

章節 134: The Black Triple Star

"However, ordinary weapons are utterly incapable of inflicting harm upon certain foes."

Miki smiled faintly and led me into the armory adjacent to the training ground. The resources of the Demon Sealing Mercenary Corps were indeed substantial; within this unassuming armory lay an array of psionic firearms that could be deemed rare even on Demon Island.

Indeed, conventional firearms pose little threat to individuals of our caliber; adventurers prefer to wield psionic weapons crafted through alchemy.

Miki gestured with her chin, her smile radiant as she remarked, "You should possess a personal armory card to procure a selection of suitable firearms. The mercenary corps provides weapons to its formal members, and you can now exercise this privilege."

Such a boon?

I glanced around, my heart racing. Even the least impressive magical gun here would fetch a price of several hundred thousand; if I could take one at will, it would be akin to striking gold!

Miki chuckled lightly, "Of course, these are not provided free of charge. However, I can assure you that the weapons offered by our corps are significantly cheaper than those at the auction on Demon Island, thanks to our in-house alchemical master."

Oh!

That certainly lowered my expectations considerably.

Upon hearing that they were not complimentary, I regained my composure. The production process of psionic firearms involves the application of enhancement magic, a task that can only be accomplished by skilled alchemists.

Although I am merely a novice alchemy apprentice, I am not entirely unfamiliar with the field. The "Alchemy Notes of Aigzu," which I obtained from Judina, has completely filled the gaps in my foundational knowledge of alchemy. The author of this tome, Aigzu, may have only achieved the rank of a senior alchemist, but he possesses profound insights into the crafting of psionic firearms.

Moreover, there is a dedicated chapter that thoroughly explains the intricacies of psionic weapons, concluding with an introduction to several of the world's most popular and esteemed firearms as examples.

This knowledge greatly benefitted me in selecting my weapon. "Most of the firearms in this armory are the works of intermediate or novice alchemists; there are not many that can be deemed exquisite."

As I emerged from my fervor, I quickly discerned that the majority of the items in the armory were of levels three or four, with only a scant few—around thirteen or fourteen—suitable for my combat needs.

Miki shrugged nonchalantly, stating, "These are all works from Senrog's early days before he became a master alchemist. If you wish for his current creations, you may seek him out for a private commission. However, his whereabouts are rather erratic, and he is currently not in Base."

What a pity!

But isn't Lord Senrog the foremost marksman of the mercenary corps? How did he transition into a master alchemist?

He is a multi-class practitioner...

That sounds akin to a specialized profession.

While conversing with Miki, I casually drew a silver revolver from the rack.

The structure of this handgun was quite simple; without any tools, I disassembled it with my bare hands in an instant, reassembling it in under five seconds.

During this process, I became intimately familiar with the construction of this magical gun. Given my current abilities, as long as I had sufficient materials, replicating a similar psionic firearm would not pose much difficulty.

However, this silver revolver was merely a tier-one treasure, capable of launching pressure rounds that would only knock a person back a short distance. Its power paled in comparison to magical missiles, rendering its creation rather pointless.

In contrast to the weapon itself, I was more concerned about the ammunition. On Demon Island, the cheapest silver demon-slaying rounds cost at least ten thousand demon coins each, while specialized annihilation rounds could reach a staggering one hundred fifty thousand demon coins—comparable to the most extravagant luxuries.

In a single battle, one would typically expend dozens of rounds; the top marksmen might consume billions in ammunition annually. Even a billionaire could hardly afford to recklessly waste hundreds of thousands daily.

I, too, could craft ammunition if I had enough materials. The process of forging bullets is significantly easier than that of creating psionic firearms; however, the efficiency is abysmally low, and the yield would scarcely suffice for a day's use. The internal price at Base for silver demon-slaying rounds is five hundred dollars each, which is far more reasonable. After calculating my future combat needs, I unreservedly took ten boxes of silver demon-slaying rounds. However, the specialized annihilation rounds remained exorbitantly priced at one hundred thousand dollars each. I readily discarded this type of ammunition, as I am not a professional marksman, and my primary combat focus does not lie in shooting. Acquiring such rarely utilized psionic rounds would be utterly unnecessary.

After selecting my bullets, I hesitated while choosing firearms. Miki, with a cheerful smile, offered her suggestion: "Adventurers differ from soldiers. They often face a variety of situations, so it is best to choose firearms that can complement one another. Typically, adventurers opt for a sniper rifle paired with a submachine gun, along with two or three commonly used sidearms."

I already possessed a Seven Kills Polaris sniper rifle, and I had little use for a submachine gun. As for handguns, there were few here with sufficient power.

Miki, noticing my naivety regarding military matters, stifled a smile as she picked up a rather ordinary black handgun. She turned to me and said, "It seems you are quite knowledgeable about the merits and demerits of psionic firearms, focusing solely on the highest-performing weapons in the armory. However, weapons are ultimately meant for combat, not mere admiration; what suits you best is what is truly optimal."

"Why not give this one a try?"

A firearm?

Naturally, I desired one with maximum power, an impressive design, and a high value. What use is there for such a cheap item?

I muttered inwardly, reaching for the unremarkable black handgun. Upon gripping the handle, I immediately felt a snug and comfortable fit.

For ordinary individuals, the maximum effective range in a gunfight is merely a few dozen meters. In our battles as psychics, we rarely exceed two hundred meters; thus, an excessively powerful handgun would be unnecessary. The impact of shooting speed and the gun's inherent stability outweighs considerations of range and precision in combat.

This black Triple Star prototype was crafted by an alchemist from China. Senrog greatly admired that master during his early studies in alchemical techniques, so many of his practice pieces were imitations of that master's work. As a fellow Chinese, you should appreciate it.

Initially, I was only moderately satisfied with the feel of the gun, but upon hearing Miki's introduction, I found myself quite enamored.

As a Chinese person, it is only natural to favor domestic products! Though this model is merely a counterfeit of Senrog's, it evokes a sense of familiarity within me.
