章節 9: Chapter 9

At least she temporarily calmed Clark down, but Kara didn't just deceive him. In addition to not saying anything about Krypton, she spent a few days with him after school almost every day and eventually helped Clark regain some control over his new abilities. The awakening power had disappeared.

At the same time, Kara also warned him in advance that as Clark grew older, his strength would become increasingly superhuman.

When Clark turns ten, he could be as strong as Kara was when she first arrived on Earth, meaning that by then Clark might even be able to lift a car.

So Kara also asked him to be mindful of any changes.

Fortunately, Kara was by Clark's side, so he wasn't too nervous or overwhelmed during this period of rapid growth.

With the company and guidance of his sister, Clark was able to adapt more easily to his power.

The only thing Clark didn't know was that every time he fell asleep, his parents and sister would worry about him.

According to his adoptive father, Jonathan, he hoped Clark would keep his distance from other children, fearing that he might lose control of his strength and hurt someone.

But Martha and Kara disagreed.

"You can't keep him so isolated," Martha said, concerned about Clark's current state.

Kara added, "You treat me and Clark very differently."

She even wondered if Jonathan was being too overprotective.

Jonathan naturally had his reasons: "Kara, you're different. You're older than Clark, you're his sister. You remembered everything when you came to our house, so you could control your power. But Clark can't yet."

"In any case, we'll discuss it when he's older and has grown more. And when he's able to accept and better understand his origins and history, we'll tell him then."

At least Kara agreed with that part of Jonathan's plan.

As for Jonathan's insistence that Clark shouldn't interact with others, Kara felt it was a bit over the top.

It was clear that Jonathan didn't want anyone to discover Clark and Kara's existence. He feared that if the siblings' powers were revealed, they wouldn't find peace.

Although Jonathan was just a farmer, he knew that humans feared the unknown.

And that fear could bring confusion, rejection, and persecution. He was just using his method to protect his son and fulfill his responsibility as a father.

Kara also understood that he wanted both of them to grow up smoothly and without worry. After all, he was doing it for them, so she had no choice but to accept it.

And so, the Kent family returned to their peaceful routine.

Kara went back to school as usual.

But the events of that day left some traces. For example, not only did she answer her phone during class, but she suddenly ran off and skipped a lesson. The principal called her directly to his office.

In the office, the principal, an older, overweight man wearing a bulky suit, looked at Kara, who was sitting on the sofa waiting to be scolded.

Today, Kara had her hair in a ponytail with a headband at the back, but she had two long sideburns framing her face.

She wore jeans fashionable for the time, a cropped shirt with a denim jacket, and a pair of white canvas sneakers. She looked stylish, youthful, and modest.

"Principal? If it's okay with you, may I go back?" Kara raised her eyebrows. This principal was too much; a couple of glances, and he would already start reprimanding her.

The principal wasn't embarrassed but rather disappointed: "Kara Kent, I always thought you were different from those troublemakers at school. I even planned to recommend you to a good college after you graduated. But now, are you going to fall apart? Aren't you?"

Kara was speechless: "Do I have a reason for that? Should I sit obediently in class when my family is in trouble? It was because my little brother Clark was having a problem that day, so I rushed out and already informed the teacher."

"Oh, so that's what it was," the principal finally realized and asked, "Is everything okay now? Was it about your brother?"

Kara nodded. "Everything is fine now. Thank you for your concern. If everything's okay, I'll be going. Don't worry, I'm too lazy to hang out with a group of kids; I'd rather read some more interesting books."

"Well, well, just take care of yourself. Wait, did you say you're too lazy to hang out with kids? You're not getting into trouble, are you?" But by the time the principal noticed, Kara had already walked out.

Kara waved goodbye to the principal, pushed the door open, and stepped outside.

Outside, two girls suddenly appeared, one on the left and one on the right — one with fair skin, the other with darker skin.

"How did it go? Did you get scolded?" the fair-skinned girl asked.

But the dark-skinned girl angrily rebuked, "Hey, Jennifer, are you gloating?"

They were two of Kara's few close friends. They were around the same age but not in the same class, so they received the news a bit late.

The fair-skinned girl was named Jennifer. She had a beautiful face, blue eyes, a tall figure, and was a popular figure at school.

She and Kara had known each other since elementary school, and their relationship had been average back then, with some friction and misunderstandings.

But once, when Jennifer was being bullied and about to lose her money, Kara came to her rescue, and they became good friends.

The dark-skinned girl was named Dani. Because the town was small, Kara, Jennifer, and Dani had all attended the same elementary school, but they weren't in the same class at first.

Later, when some bullies tried to harass Dani, Kara happened to be passing by, saved her, and they became friends.

Initially, both Dani and Jennifer sought Kara's protection, knowing that as long as they stayed close to her, they'd be safe.

But later, the three of them grew closer and became good friends due to their similar personalities and ages.

"Everything's fine." Seeing her friends' concern, Kara briefly explained what had just happened: "The principal knew I left because of my little brother, Clark, so it was easy to talk it over."

"That's what we thought," the two girls said, not too surprised. They already knew what had been going on over the past few days and assumed that was the case.

"By the way, Kara, we're thinking of going out to the city after school today. It's been a while since we've hung out. Maybe we could watch a movie and find a place to grab a drink or something," Jennifer suddenly proposed, her excitement clear.

Dani's eyes lit up too.

Both of them looked expectantly at Kara.

Kara showed a conflicted expression: "But how would I get home if I miss the school bus?"

"My dad could drive you! I can come home with you too. Come on, let's go!" Jennifer was already tugging at her arm playfully.

Dani added, "Yeah, it's been a long time since we watched a movie together. Besides, helping at home isn't that complicated."

Kara had no choice but to agree: "Alright, alright, but it can't be too late. I need to call home first."
