章節 92: Chapter 92 (edited)

At the police station, Bruce was interrogating the Joker when Kara had to don her battle suit once more and return.

It was called an interrogation, but it had already escalated.

Gordon was anxiously trying to open the door of the interrogation room, but Bruce had blocked it with a chair from inside.

He probably regretted letting Bruce handle the Joker alone now. Seeing Kara arrive, Gordon looked as though he'd seen a savior. "Stop him! He's about to kill the Joker!"

Kara glanced at Gordon with a faint smirk.

Unbeknownst to him, he'd made the wrong choice. The man inside wouldn't kill the Joker, but the one outside was far more dangerous.

Kara surveyed the scene through the one-way glass. The glass allowed people outside to see in, but those inside couldn't see or hear the outside world.

Without hesitation, Kara strode toward the glass. Before Gordon or the other officers could react, she raised her right hand and punched the thick glass wall hard.

Her movements were crisp and efficient, shattering the bulletproof glass in one blow.

Everyone stood frozen in shock.

Kara jumped through the broken window into the room.

Bruce, at that moment, had the Joker pinned against the wall. "Tell me, where are Rachel and Harvey?" he demanded.

The Joker ignored him, his eyes shifting toward Kara, his grin widening.

Ordinary people would've been terrified by Bruce's intensity, especially with his current state of desperation. Despite his claims of detachment, Rachel was still his childhood sweetheart.

Yet the Joker remained unfazed.

Kara waved dismissively at Bruce. "Move aside."

Her words were calm yet authoritative.

Bruce hesitated, his instincts telling him to comply, but then he stopped himself and moved to block her. "What are you planning to do?"

Kara gave him an exasperated look. "Relax. I'm not going to kill him, especially not in front of Gordon. I have no interest in turning from a hero into a criminal today."

Bruce hesitated a moment longer but then stepped aside, allowing Kara to face the Joker directly.

Kara locked eyes with the Joker. "Let's skip the games. Tell me their locations. Everyone knows your goal isn't to kill them outright. Otherwise, you wouldn't bother with these theatrics."

The Joker tilted his head, intrigued.

Kara continued, "Your aim is to drag Batman—or perhaps someone else—into the abyss with you. But I'm not going to let that happen."

After a moment, the Joker laughed and rattled off two addresses. "Better hurry, though. Time's ticking."

Kara's gaze didn't waver. "You don't need to worry about that." She turned to Bruce. "Who are you going to save?"

Without hesitation, Bruce answered, "Harvey."

He'd said over the phone before that his relationship with Rachel was over. Whatever his true feelings, he chose Harvey.

Kara shrugged and moved toward the exit.

Bruce followed closely. Neither of them seemed inclined to open the door for Gordon, who was still locked outside. Instead, they prepared to exit through the shattered window.

But then, the Joker's voice rang out behind them. "Oh, did I forget to mention? I never said there were only two people, did I?"

Everyone froze, turning toward him.

The Joker's grin widened. "Commissioner Gordon's family… now, they're an interesting twist to the game. Little James and Barbara? They're delightful."

Gordon paled, rushing to the broken glass wall. "What did you do? You lunatic! What did you do to my children?"

The Joker shrugged casually. "Why so serious? It's all just a game. Let's see who you prioritize: Rachel? Harvey? Little James? Or Barbara? Such delightful choices."

Gordon slammed his fists against the shattered glass, his knuckles bleeding.

Bruce felt a chill. The Joker was pushing them all to their limits, testing their humanity. Could they prioritize justice over personal ties? Could they sacrifice individuals for the greater good?

The room fell silent, heavy with tension.

Then Kara's voice cut through. "Leave it to me."

Bruce turned to her, concerned. "But—"

"No 'buts,'" Kara interrupted. "Every second we waste could cost a life. I'll take care of the others. You handle Harvey."

The Joker chuckled, leaning back against the wall. "Oh, and how will you find them? I haven't given you all the addresses yet."

Kara smirked. "I don't need you to."

With that, she strode out of the room. Bruce hesitated only a moment before following her, his concern evident. "Are you sure about this?"

Kara didn't break stride. "Completely. But after this, you'll owe me. And I'll need ten minutes alone with the Joker. No interruptions."

Bruce frowned but nodded, understanding the urgency. They both knew this night would define much more than just their choices—it would cement their paths.
