章節 7: Chapter 7

Time flies. Kara is now fifteen years old and dresses fashionably. She's naturally beautiful, blonde, with long hair that now reaches her waist.

In addition, her academic performance is good, and she doesn't usually go out to do silly things. She goes straight home after school and stays in to help during vacations without feeling embarrassed at all.

Before, other kids would laugh at her, considering her a country girl.

So what?

Did Kara think my sister would tell you that she's a female Superman?

Who are you underestimating?

It's this self-confidence that makes her even more radiant and noticeable. She has always been a famous figure at school. If there were a list of the most popular girls, she would definitely be number one.

There are also many boys who want to pursue Kara, but she rejects them outright. She doesn't even accept any invitations from bad boys, and the girls she hangs out with are all good girls.

Over the last few years, Kara has always made Jonathan and Martha feel at ease. Sometimes, they even take the initiative to let Kara go out with friends, watch movies, have coffee, etc.

They even bought Kara a phone ahead of time. In the past two years, technology has started to develop, and she uses a flip phone that's very nice.

However, Kara's phone is not just for staying in touch with her adoptive parents, but also for her school teachers or good girls. Besides that, it's difficult for others to get her phone number, and it rarely rings.

The only thing that happened in class today was an accident. When the teacher was in the middle of the lesson, Kara's phone suddenly rang.

"Whose is that?" The teacher got angry but, when she turned around and saw Kara taking out the phone and answering it, she calmed down and said, "Step outside to take the call."

Kara nodded, got up, and left.

The other students behind her looked at each other in total bewilderment.

"Is the teacher being too biased?"

"If our phones rang, we'd definitely be punished, let alone answering it."

"Hmph, just because she's pretty? So what?"

A sour murmur spread through the classroom.

However, the teacher in the front was clear in her response. She banged her hand on the desk and angrily reprimanded them:

"Stop spouting nonsense. She doesn't cause trouble even once a year. But you? You cause trouble almost every day in every class, and now you're blaming me?"

The ones complaining were all girls. Some were pretty, some wore too much makeup. In short, they looked like troublemakers. The reason they couldn't stand Kara was because her reputation was always good, and she was beautiful, which made them jealous.

In the hallway, standing by the door, Kara wasn't bothered by those petty words. Although she always had the image of a good girl, Kara was careful about everything. Even in class, she had to keep her phone on and with the ringtone activated.

She wasn't afraid that someone would prank her, but she was scared something sudden might happen at home, and she wouldn't get the news in time.

Like now.

"Mom?" Kara saw the number was her adoptive mother, Martha, and couldn't help but feel a little knot in her stomach. Her adoptive parents almost never called her when she was in class, and even after school, because she usually rushed straight home. There was nothing to worry about.

—What's wrong? —Kara asked, her expression suddenly serious.

She heard Martha's worried voice on the other side:

—Clark's teacher just called. Something strange happened to him. He locked himself in the storeroom, and no one can get him out.

—Your father and I are heading there now. If you have time, come join us.

—You know, after all, your brother is a little… different.

She meant Clark had powers unlike those of ordinary people.

Kara sighed in relief. As long as nothing serious had happened at home, she wasn't too worried.

—Understood. I'll be there soon —Kara said, before hanging up and heading back to the classroom.

—Teacher, I have something urgent. I need to leave early today, sorry —Kara apologized to the teacher, quickly gathering her things into her small shoulder bag before leaving.

Kara didn't care about what others thought because, in her heart, family was the most important thing. She didn't even care about her studies.

Besides, Kara's soul from her past life had already been a high school student. Relearning things was easier, though the history here was a bit more complicated.

Over time, Kara also noticed her memory and mind were improving more and more. She could memorize things effortlessly. In fact, if she didn't worry about standing out too much, she could have been admitted to university without a problem.

However, she was only fifteen, and university wasn't cheap, so she preferred to wait. She wanted to help the family make some money first and wait until she was eighteen.

Because of that, Kara's academic performance was always among the best. Even though she didn't get the highest score in every exam, she was usually in the top five.

With such a good student and good grades, it was acceptable for her to be a little rude once in a while.

So the teacher didn't say anything.

However, this definitely drew a lot of complaints and dissatisfaction.

Suddenly, a loud noise startled the entire class. Everyone turned to look at the door in shock. It was Kara, who had kicked the doorframe, nearly breaking it to pieces.

She turned her head, and her usual calm, beautiful demeanor now reflected anger, giving off an intimidating aura.

—A bunch of bitches, are you looking for trouble? —Kara angrily glared at those girls who always looked at her with disgust. Before, she wouldn't bother speaking to them, but today she was in a bad mood, and their constant murmuring irritated her.

Kara placed her hand on a nearby desk, and it looked like she might smash it at any moment.

With her strength, if she exploded at those classmates, there would be serious injuries or worse.

The ringing of her phone interrupted the tension. Kara pulled it out of her pants pocket. This time, it wasn't her adoptive mother, but her adoptive father.

—What's up, Dad? —Kara answered the call.

Jonathan's resigned voice came from the other side:

—Martha was really worried earlier, but I still don't know the exact situation at Clark's school. If you're still in class, there's no need to come.

Kara shot a fierce look at the envious girls, then, as she walked away, said:

—Don't worry, I've already told the teacher. Besides, with my current grades and nearly perfect attendance, it's no problem if I skip class occasionally.

The teacher pretended not to hear that, but Kara was right.

The students in the classroom still hadn't recovered from Kara's sudden outburst, and they stayed frozen for a while before the teacher's reminder prompted them to continue the lesson.

Meanwhile, when Kara met up with her adoptive parents, they arrived at Clark's school, where the boy had been locked up for more than an hour.

Kara got closer to the storeroom door and noticed the melted handle. A smile appeared at the corner of her mouth because she recognized it. This was what it looked like after being burned and heated by Clark's heat vision.
