章節 44: Chapter 43

For this exclusive interview with Bruce, Kara did an excellent job, but Bruce always seemed to be under pressure.

Bruce, having a good relationship with Kara, agreed to her interview request, although many of Kara's questions were quite direct, which made him feel a bit uncomfortab

Moreover, Kara seemed to have a small personal vendetta, as Bruce had recently been dating celebrities and socialites, which had made Jennifer, an old friend, v

In fact, both Kara and Dani felt powerless when it came to Jennifer's feelings. Even though Jennifer and Bruce hadn't interacted much during school, she had always been in love with him.

That evening, Kara declined Bruce's offer to have dinner together and decided to head back to her home in Metropolis to spend the night.

"It's a joke," Kara thought. "I don't want to keep hurting Jennifer's feelings."

Seriously, why did Jennifer always think that Kara was romantically involved with Bruce? She shouldn't see her as a love rival! What Jennifer should really worry about was someone else: Rachel Dawes, the district attorney in Gotham City.

Like Jennifer, who worked as a district attorney in Metropolis, Rachel was the assistant district attorney in Gotham. Although Jennifer held a higher position as the chief district attorney, Rachel was a young prosecutor with a bright future and a personal connection to Bruce.

Sometimes, Kara was amazed to see how her two friends had risen to such important positions. But their success was a testament to their great abilities.

After saying goodbye to Bruce, Kara ran into Rachel, who had come to visit him. The next day was Bruce's birthday, and Rachel had arrived with an early gift, mentioning that perhaps tomorrow wouldn't be the best time to celebrate.

Kara took the opportunity to give Bruce a hug and wish him a happy birthday before leaving.

"Is this your gift?" Bruce said jokingly. "A little stingy, don't you think?"

Kara, in her mind, thought, "Aside from my family, you're the first man I've hugged. Don't complain so much."

As Kara left, Rachel looked at her with a mix of curiosity and jealousy, then asked:

"Is she your new girlfriend?"

"No," Bruce replied quickly. "She was my classmate in college, and she now works for the Daily Planet. I agreed to the interview, though I hope she's not too hard on me."

Bruce didn't have much to worry about. Kara would do her job, but she would always treat him with respect.

The next morning, Kara arrived early at the Daily Planet offices, bringing with her the material from the interview with Bruce, as well as four columns she had prepared in advance.

Perry White, the editor, glanced at the articles and snorted.

"I knew it," he said, nodding approvingly. "I knew you had a great article ready, but you kept me waiting to send it. You're keeping the readers in suspense."

"Don't publish it all at once," Kara told Perry firmly. "As I mentioned before, I'm heading to my hometown this month. And even if you call me, I won't answer."

Perry looked at her resignedly.

"Can't you reconsider? I was thinking about writing a second and third column with you."

"I'm fine with this," Kara replied, shaking her head.

Perry sighed and dropped the subject. He then took the materials Kara had organized for the newspaper edition.

"You've got a unique talent for getting top-quality information," he said with admiration, referring to the interview with Bruce.

To complete her work, Kara had also dug up some additional facts beyond the usual rumors, although she knew Bruce wouldn't reveal many of his secrets.

"If you're happy with the article, I'm heading home," Kara said, hesitating. "Actually, I'm still deciding whether to drive back or take the train. Are you going to reimburse me for the gas?"

Without a second thought, Perry replied:

"Don't worry about that. At most, you can report the expenses you had in Gotham City."

Kara rolled her eyes. The distance between Gotham and Metropolis wasn't short, but she let it go. A month of paid vacation was better than anything else.

Kara had no intention of going back to her apartment in Metropolis. Instead, she headed directly to her adoptive family's farm in Smallville.

The trip was long, but when she arrived, both her adoptive parents and her brother, Clark, came out to greet her with excitement.

Even the family dog, who was just a puppy before, ran up to Kara, wagging his tail excitedly and holding a baseball in his mouth.

Kara smiled and threw the baseball lightly into the air. The dog watched as the ball disappeared into the distant sky and, instead of chasing after it, lay down at Clark's feet, whining softly.

Martha, Kara's mother, hugged her daughter warmly.

"Don't tease him too much," she said to Kara, laughing. "You know he loves you."

Although Kara didn't spend much time at home, the dog always seemed to prefer her company. Even though Kara often played a little roughly with him, every time she came back, he would find her with the baseball in his mouth.

Kara smiled and bent down to pet the dog's head, and he immediately started wagging his tail rapidly.

Jonathan, her adoptive father, had just come back from working in the fields and was planning to make a simple lunch. However, seeing that Kara had returned, he decided to change his plans and headed into town to buy something special for the occasion.

"If you've got so much work, you don't have to come back all the time," Jonathan said, half-jokingly, as he changed into clean shoes.

"My daughter came to see me," Martha replied, smiling at her husband affectionately.

Clark greeted his sister warmly.

"Welcome home, sis."

Kara smiled back.

"It's good to be home. By the way, Dad, I bought some ingredients when I stopped by town. Clark, help me bring them in."

Clark went to get the bags and, upon seeing a chicken among the ingredients, asked:

"Are you planning to make chicken curry?"

Martha, surprised, looked at Kara.

"Chicken curry? I didn't know you could make that."

Kara bit her lip and shot a sharp look at Clark.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said nervously.

She didn't want her parents to know she had learned to cook, at least not yet. Originally, she had wanted her adoptive mother to make roast chicken.

Clark, realizing his mistake, He simply accepted Kara's pinches on his waist.
