章節 32: Chapter 31

In the evening, the finally reunited family sat around the dining table, enjoying a sumptuous dinner. After all, Kara had returned after several years, and the occasion deserved to be celebrated.

However, the atmosphere at the table was a bit tense due to concerns about Clark, as he had started questioning the origin of his abilities.

"Am I cursed?" Clark couldn't help but voice his thoughts.

Kara didn't think so: "Why do you think that?"

As she spoke, she used telekinesis to scoop some mashed potatoes from the table and tossed it into her mouth, enjoying it with evident pleasure.

Her travels over the past few years had allowed her to use her powers more freely and casually.

Jonathan looked at her with a mix of resignation and frustration. He had insisted that Clark keep his abilities a secret, but his daughter seemed to enjoy showing them off all the time.

Martha, somewhat bewildered, took the spoon from Kara's plate and placed it in her hand: "Eat normally, Kara. We're at home."

Kara shrugged, then turned to Clark and said, "Do you think you're cursed? And what about me? I don't think we are.

Maybe your powers feel like a burden right now because Dad just wants to protect you."

"But one day, when you want to be a hero who can help others, or when someone important to you is in danger, you'll understand how lucky you are to have the power to protect those you care about and help those in need."

"Clark, I've traveled to every corner of the world, faced hostile environments, fought against ferocious beasts, and encountered the most vile villains and the most unscrupulous people."

"If I didn't have my strength, I might have frozen to death in Antarctica, the North Pole, or even on Mount Everest, not to mention the other dangers I faced."

"Wearing the crown means bearing its weight. Consider this a test, Clark."

As the older sister, Kara, with all her experiences, felt the responsibility of guiding Clark.

But would Clark be so easily convinced?

Clearly, no.

Clark looked into Kara's eyes seriously and voiced his real question: "I just want to understand why you and I are different. Not even our parents have these abilities. Only the two of us are different from everyone else. Why is that?"

"Why? There are so many reasons, really. Come on, eat."

"It's been so long since I've tasted Mom's cooking, and I'm starving." Kara looked away, clearly trying to avoid the topic with some guilt.

This time, she simply used her hands to tear off a leg from the roasted chicken in the center of the table.

Martha gave her a disapproving look. Were there no utensils available? She wasn't allowed to use her powers, and yet she started eating with her hands.

But after hearing what Kara had gone through in the past few years—fighting and struggling for food with beasts—Martha understood that Kara hadn't been on a simple journey, but rather a constant battle.

"Kara," said Jonathan, who had been unusually quiet, "as you said, Clark has grown up. It's time to tell him where you both came from."

Their origin?

Clark was startled. He looked at Jonathan, saw the concern on Martha's face, and then turned to Kara, who remained silent.

Kara bit her lip, finally placing the chicken leg in her mouth and biting down hard, crunching through the bone. Her strength allowed her to digest even steel, although the taste wasn't particularly pleasant. Kara didn't eat things like rocks or metal, but at that moment, she was clearly nervous.

"Are you sure?" Kara asked Jonathan, still avoiding Clark's gaze.

Clark, growing more impatient, raised his voice: "Sister... Kara!"

Desperately, he called her by name, trying to get her attention: "What's going on? Are you hiding something from me? If it involves me, I have a right to know."

He had spent a long time feeling confused and different, wondering why he was unlike everyone else, even his parents.

Luckily, he had Kara, who shared his abilities. Otherwise, his sense of loneliness and doubt would have been even greater.

Now, it seemed he was about to uncover the truth, and he was filled with excitement and anxiety.

Kara finally turned to look into Clark's eyes, sighing: "Since Dad said so, and you've grown up, it's time to tell you.

Clark, in reality, you and I are not from Earth.

We are not our parents' biological children. They are our adoptive parents, and they've always been exceptional in caring for us as if we were their own."

Jonathan and Martha, deeply moved, felt relief hearing Kara acknowledge all the love and care they had poured into raising them.

Clark was in shock, never expecting to hear that he truly was different.

"What do you mean?" Clark asked, stunned. He knew nothing of his origin, not even his real name. He relied on Kara for answers.

Kara, knowing there was no turning back, continued: "Clark, your real name is Kal-El. And mine is Kara Zor-El."

"Your father, Jor-El, was the older brother of my father, Zor-El. That means we're not siblings by blood, but cousins."

"We come from a planet called Krypton, and we are Kryptonians. Our planet was destroyed. Before that happened, our fathers sent us to Earth in spaceships. In other words, we are the last Kryptonians, refugees on Earth."

"When we arrived, you were just a baby, and I was ten years old. Although I wanted to take care of you, I also needed to be cared for. Thankfully, our adoptive parents took us in and allowed us to grow up peacefully here on Earth."

"As for our abilities, Kryptonians develop superhuman powers when exposed to the light of Earth's yellow sun.

Additionally, Earth's gravity is much lower than that of Krypton, and Earth's oxygen has beneficial effects on us. Since Earth lacks kryptonite, our powers grow stronger over time."

Kara didn't hide anything and told Clark everything she knew—from their origins, the destruction of Krypton, to why Kryptonians are so powerful on Earth.

However, there were some things Kara didn't know, such as the full history of Jor-El's family, Clark's side.

So she added: "When I traveled to the North Pole, I discovered a Kryptonian ship. It was part of an exploration mission sent by Krypton over 20,000 years ago."

"Krypton once had plans to colonize the universe, and that mission probably reached Earth when its civilization was still undeveloped."

"We each have a control device that can activate the ship's system. I believe your father's system will explain more to you when you're ready. When the time comes, you'll learn everything you need to know."
