章節 2826: Chapter 2013: Ignite the Strange Dream in Your Heart (Part 6)_1

The evidence shows, the human race does indeed have a knack for cheering themselves up.

Or perhaps, there are just too many things in this world that can make humans unhappy, so naturally, they developed myriad ways to cheer themselves up.

Lucifer, coming out of the Caribbean Pirate Museum, covered his forehead and said, "What the hell am I doing? I knew it was just a bunch of dummies cooperating with props to stage a play, so why did I play it three times in a row? "

Shiller said with an open hand: "Empathy is the superior ability of intelligent life, which allows other intelligent life to convey their emotions to you through various means, including paintings, music, scenes, and performances."

Lucifer sighed softly and said, "This is also the cornerstone of why we get deceived."

Then, he looked at the pirate hat in his hand.

Yes, he bought it. And immediately after the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, he bought it, and he even stupidly put it on his head to have a photo with Captain Jack a few minutes ago.

When you walk under the arch of Adventure World, you actually come to Frontierland. Here, they seemed to have changed the decorating style, using a combination of desert and cliff elements.

Unsurprisingly, they bumped into Nick and his group here. It's impossible to ignore a group of agents wearing Mickey Mouse ears, holding Peter Pan dolls, and decorated with numerous badges.

Although the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were dressed casually, they exude a unique charm, especially when they examine any building, it seems like they are looking for the best sniper point.

Nick was not only holding a baby elephant doll but also tucking Winnie the Pooh under his arm. Apparently, he just came from Fantasy Island.

When he saw Shiller and Lucifer, Nick looked a bit surprised. He said, "Didn't you guys go to the Dwarf Mine ride first? The line there must be ten miles long."

"We decided not to go to the most popular rides first but to play in order." Shiller pointed to Lucifer's hat and said, "You better rush to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Trust me, your group might not be able to leave Adventure Island today."

Nick didn't understand what he meant, but he shook his head and said, "Natasha said the Thunder Mountain roller coaster is exciting, so we planned to play that first. We really can't take any more carousels."

"Boss, we made a mistake." Agent Coulson, wearing a skull hat, stepped forward and said, "According to the news, a parade is about to start on Main Street, and we definitely won't make it back in time."

"What's there to be afraid of? We can come back tomorrow if necessary. We've only played the rides today, we haven't seen most of the shows, we'll definitely need to play for another day."

They headed towards Splash Mountain.

Splash Mountain is essentially a traditional rapid river ride, but at the beginning, there is a rafting journey through a mountain cave. The boat slowly rises to the highest point, then plummets downwards; the final part is quite exciting.

While putting on the raincoat, Nick said, "I think it's a big mistake that Battleworld does not sell healing potions."

"Of course, I don't mean selling numerical values, but look, if you don't want your clothes to get dirty, don't want to get injured in the game, you naturally need to prepare healing items.

"Of course, I think the number of games participants play each day should be limited. If you want to participate more times, you naturally have to pay a price, what do you think of a stamina system?"

"I don't think it's a good idea," Lucifer immediately retorted. "Why should we limit the number of times you can participate in the game? Then wouldn't I have less fun to watch?"

"That's where you're wrong," Shiller and Nick both chimed in.

"It's precisely so that you can have more fun for longer. Think about it, if people quickly get the technology and abilities they want by earning points in multiple games, they will definitely return to the real world as soon as possible, then you will no longer have their fun to watch."

"But if you set a limit, we can greatly prolong this process, allowing them to participate in more games, naturally providing more amusement, right? "

"Likewise for healing potions," Nick said, pointing one finger. "They would spend more points on healing items to have a better performance in the next game. This way, the points used to accumulate resources are reduced, and they naturally need to participate in more games."

Lucifer massaged his temples and said, "I have a feeling that if we really do this, we will definitely receive the most sincere curses from all the metaverses."

"Are you scared of curses?"

"Of course I'm not!" Lucifer raised his voice and said, "But what's so good about being cursed? Be a human!"

Everyone on their boat was basically a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, so they conversed boldly. And when their conversation ended, the boat had already risen to its highest point.

With a mighty cheer, the boat leaped from the high platform, and the splashing water sprayed everywhere.

The soaked agents cheered as they disembarked, most of them eager to ride again. Lucifer, however, shook his head and said, "There's no need to go a second round. Why don't I just put away my wings and fall into the lake? Wouldn't the effect be the same?"

Shiller took off his water-soaked raincoat, had the gray mist dry him off, and said, "Of course it's not the same, you might not get that wet if you fall into the lake."

Just as they were talking, another boat full of people rushed down, forcing Lucifer to quickly sidestep. Fortunately, the water didn't splash over.

They initially planned to head towards the next attraction, but had spent too much time previously in the Pirates of the Caribbean pavilion, and it was now fast approaching noon, they decided to stay for lunch.

Not far ahead along this main road is Liberty Square, and by the roadside, there's a tavern called Freedom Tree Tavern, an ordinary American family-style pub without live performers.

Both Lucifer and Shiller were not the type who liked to interact with performers while eating, so they chose this restaurant over the more popular Beauty and the Beast Restaurant.

Most American family-style pubs usually serve large glasses of beer and a plentiful amount of meat, including smoked sausages, turkey, and large slabs of beef steak.

As it wasn't peak lunch hour, the pub was not too crowded. Most people were still engrossed in their activities. Shiller and Lucifer found a seat by the window.

Outside the window, Stark put on his sunglasses and under the bright sun, scrutinized the map for two minutes before turning to Steve saying, "We definitely took a wrong turn. When we passed the castle, I felt something was off. Shouldn't we go back to Main Street, U.S.A, then head to Adventureland?"

"But this way should also take us to Adventureland, all roads are connected."

"Yes, and there's also a road that leads from New York to Antarctica." Stark retorted sarcastically, "You can go and meet penguins that way."

"Actually, I could."

After a good half a minute of glaring at each other, Stark and Steve went to the shade of a nearby tree. After carefully looking at the map again, Stark said, "I just posted a message on Spider App, mentioning that I came to Disney World in Orlando, and Gwen Spiderman replied that I must try Pirates of the Caribbean."

"If we travel far and find Adventureland isn't fun, I'll let Nick dock her points."

"I think we should not rely on other people's guides." Steve said, hands on his hips. "Let's plan our own route. I think we should go to Frontierland from Liberty Square, then to Adventureland, so we don't miss any program."

"We don't need to guarantee not missing any programs, we're coming back here another day anyway." Stark looked at Steve and said, "And are you sure that the metal-arm guy and Strange are fine? I think our knowledge of The Sanctum must be somewhat biased."

"I've told you before, Bucky's worked in the Andromeda Galaxy. The Sanctum needs his help to expand their business out there. The Supreme Magician isn't a human trafficker or anything."

"Huh." Stark scoffed, reopening the map and reading as he spoke, "Only if nobody else is offering a higher price."

Suddenly, Stark's gaze fell on a program called Ghost House.

He nudged Steve with his elbow and pointed at the program, raising his eyebrows at Steve with a look that spoke volumes.

Located at the junction of Frontierland and Liberty Square, the Ghost Mansion is a huge, brown-red colored, old fashioned building. Once you step through the dark grey gate, it feels like you're entering a real manor.

Bruce, Clark, and Diana looked up at this massive building, and Bruce asked sincerely, "What's so scary about this? Isn't it just a regular English manor?"

Inside the courtyard, you can see various uniquely designed statues, seemingly of the manor's ancestors. Bruce shook his head and said, "We wouldn't put our ancestors' statues in the courtyard, and their placement is all wrong."

Following the queuing path into the corridor, a small foyer with a variety of brown wooden panels with a hooked design appeared before their eyes.

As they proceeded, they entered a slightly larger hall with a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling and portraits of people on both sides. Once inside the elevator, they quickly arrived at the place to board the rail cars.

The car first passed through a long, dark corridor lined with various eerie portraits. Then they could see the complex labyrinth of passages and staircases disappearing into the darkness.

Bruce wasn't very interested during the first half of the ride, and after sighing, he turned to Clark and Diana next to him and said, "I think I should install a rail car in Wayne Manor and invite you guys to play at two in the morning. That would surely be scarier than this."

After a brief reminiscence, Clark and Diana agreed that Bruce actually had a point.

Wayne Manor is a classic English manor and is huge. With only a few people living in it, most of the rooms are unoccupied, making the manor feel vast, dim, and antique.

The first time Clark spent the night alone in a guest room, he felt it odd not to see a full moon outside the towering Gothic windows with howling werewolves underneath.

Finally, one by one, dots of light began to flicker in the darkness. Upon closer inspection, they turned out to be the eyes of bats.

The only issue was, these eyes were a tad too cartoonish, looking just like the eyes of the bats inside the caves of MGM cartoons from the last century.

Diana sighed, looking at Bruce she said.

"You standing there dressed in your bat suit would definitely be scarier than this."

章節 2827: Chapter 2014: Ignite the Strange Dream in Your Heart (Part 7)_1

As it turns out, aside from being a giant psychiatric hospital, Gotham is also a giant haunted house. No Gothamite ever needs to venture to amusement parks for haunted house experiences, they're doomed to be underwhelming compared to what's in their own backyard.

As a Kryptonian, Clark doesn't cope well with places devoid of sunlight. Upon entering the haunted house, he felt a certain creepiness. As the track car penetrated further into the darkness, he submerged more into the deep, sinister atmosphere.

Diana, being of the God Clan, obviously isn't afraid of ghosts. However, she was intrigued by the mechanically made spirit props, beautifully decorated scenes, and ever-changing lights in the Ghost Mansion.

But Bruce, well, he was just plain bored.

Firstly, Gothamites are quite used to dimly lit places. After all, the UV index in Gotham is only about half of that in other cities before the sun rises. Occasionally, even walking down the street at noon feels gloomy let alone in the early morning and at dusk. So, Bruce's eyes immediately adapted to the dim atmosphere of the Ghost Mansion.

No need to mention the dark atmosphere. Enter any building at night in Gotham, the ambiance is much more ominous and terror-evoking than here.

As for the beautifully decorated scenes, Bruce thought they lacked taste. Many of the furnishings in Wayne Manor were brought over by the first batch of European nobles who migrated to the Americas. They are indeed ancient. Plus, Wayne Manor is so big and Alfred also had to look after Bruce. So either hiring someone to clean and keeeping track of it all became a bit too much, and something always fell through the cracks.

Things like an old clock making strange noises in the night due to aging, creaky cupboard doors from missing lubrication, Gothic candlesticks flickering due to changed wax types, and curtains forming strange shapes after being dampened and dried, all these were pretty much standard in Wayne Manor. Bruce had grown up in such an atmosphere.

As for the mechanical props disguised as ghosts or causing ruckus, they were even less interesting. Bruce didn't even need to look twice to precisely analyze the mechanical structure behind it all.

Bruce almost fell asleep on the track car. He thought this ride would end just like this, but just when the train was about to reach the endpoint, Bruce suddenly felt a push on his left arm.

Bruce was sitting on the far left on the train. There was nobody beside him, so he turned to look at Diana and Clark on his right.

"Did either of you just push me?" Bruce asked.

Clark and Diana, who were in conversation, paused before answering in unison, "Push you? Why would we do that?"

Clark noticed Bruce pressing his left arm and quickly suggested, "Could it be that your arm brushed against some prop while the train was moving?"

He rushed over to roll up Bruce's sleeve and found no injuries, not even a mark. So Clark said with a cheerful tone, "You must have scared yourself. In such a dark environment, it's natural to feel as if something is watching you from all sides."

"Have you been taking your medication regularly?" Diana asked, then she looked around and added, "I don't sense anything strange near us, at least there are definitely no ghosts."

Bruce frowned—he was sure what he felt just now wasn't an illusion. Something had definitely touched his arm.

The hustle and bustle of the crowd heading towards the exit grew as the clock ticked closer to noon. The sun got more brutal, but fortunately, the breeze had blown away the few clouds that could block the sunlight. The cool mist brought by the wind from the lake eased people's discomfort, allowing them to breathe a sigh of relief and seek delicious food.

The two sides of the Ghost Mansion had impressively tall trees planted for the occasion. A gust of wind shook down some of the soft leaves, which fluttered far away from their branches.

A man redirected his attention from the trajectory of spinning leaves to the stage. He exasperatedly started talking to the thin air, "Venom, you can't do this. The safety manual clearly says that it's dangerous to stick your arms out of the ride!"

"And why did your tentacle curve? You didn't touch the other passengers in the car, did you? You'll scare them!"

Inside Eddie's mind, Venom let out an evil laugh, "You didn't see that guy's face, he looked as if he had eaten dog feces, hahaha. He totally deserved it!"

As Eddie was about to continue speaking, he noticed a familiar figure walking past him with two other people. Eddie's eyes widened as he recognized that this was a contestant he had met in his last game.

"What happened? Venom, who is he? Any grudge between you two? That day you saw him and wanted to punch him. How did he offend you?"

After contemplating, Eddie asked, "And why didn't you either have a fight with him or swear at him? How does nudging him with a tentacle while on a haunted house ride count?"

With a disdainful snort, Venom replied, "It doesn't matter who he is. Just remember that he's the most superstitious person in the world."

"Hahaha, he will definitely keep thinking about this until the end of the vacation, until he returns to his world, until he gets home, until the end of time, and even the collapse of the universe..."

Standing under the sun, Bruce yawned, smoothed the wrinkles on his shirt sleeve, and said, "Oh well, it probably was a prop branch that hit me. Let's go buy some balloons."

As the shadows of the three slowly passed, a voice came from the other end of the street.

"I am certain that it was not a mechanical prop! Are you questioning my mechanical engineering skills?" Stark shouted at Steve, "The flexibility it displayed is not something these stiff haunted house props have. It's utterly... utterly..."

A leaf spun in the air and gently stuck to Stark's shoulder. Stark visibly stiffened at the sight.

Steve picked the leaf and held it out to Stark, saying, "You're just scaring yourself. It's just a leaf."

"But what I saw in the haunted house, that tentacle, it was definitely not a prop. It could have been...an octopus ghost, I don't know. The lighting in there was too dim, I couldn't see clearly."

As Steve continued walking, Stark followed him, gesticulating wildly as he described what he had seen.

"That thing emerged from the second row, from the shadows beside the seats. It gradually formed into a tentacle in mid-air and then touched the passenger in front."

"That thing was damn flexible, bending in the air. I swear it wasn't some Easter egg set on the seat!"

Steve, hearing this description, felt a sense of familiarity. Consequently, he said, "Flexible, squishy tentacles? Could what you saw have been a symbiont?"

"But why would there be..."

Stark choked off in realization. There indeed would be.

Most symbionts from Klinter Star had already arrived on Earth and were currently awaiting work at S.H.I.E.L.D. A few have gone to the Andromeda Galaxy and are cooperating with the mutants, and the rest intended to parasitize the agents.

The group of young agents Nick brought along had already accepted training in cooperating with the symbionts, with some of them having formally assumed their duties. Their cooperation had been rather harmonious.

Just as he thought of this, they heard a burst of fearful screams from behind. The instincts of the two superheroes made them instantly turn their heads, listening to the crowd erupting in excitement,

"Oh, my God, this is so cool! Did you guys see that? Those prop tentacles were actually fighting! It's like we're on the scene of a giant octopus fight!"

"I touched them, and they're soft and a bit sticky, completely different from those metal statues outside. The upgrades to this venue are fantastic!"

"Mom! Mom! I want to go again; I want to shake hands with those tentacles. They'll shake hands with me, right?"

Stark and Steve then watched as Nick led a group of young agents out of the exit, clearly just having finished a round on the amusement rides, with placid smiles across everyone's face.

The recently balloon-bought Bruce stopped in his tracks, as he noticed the squirming little tentacle on the shoulder of one agent. That thing was the same species as the black muddy blob he had encountered before.

Playing ghost in a haunted house?

A bold idea suddenly came to Bruce.

So Stark and Steve, who were still hanging around the balloon booth, heard the following from the tourists who wandered by after another round had ended.

"Did you guys see? that actor playing the bat was amazing. He swooshed down from the rooftop. It was so thrilling; he literally zoomed past right over my head!"

"Honey, do you think his bat-shaped cape is merchandise too? Maybe we could buy it at the clothing store on Main Street, U.S.A. Come on; let's go check it out."

"Where is he? Aren't actors supposed to interact with us? I have to get a picture with him, don't think I didn't notice his handsome chin."

Stark slowly narrowed his eyes.

Standing again at the entrance of the haunted house, Steve looked at Stark and said, "You don't necessarily have to beat everyone at everything, do you?"

"And besides, my weapon is a shield; my uniform is emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes, and you wear a suit of metal armor that's harder than any statue in there. how do you plan on dressing as a ghost and scare people?"

Stark's eyes darted – he had an idea. "Let's eat something first."

Neither of them opted for the famously iconic castle restaurant, but rather chose to seat themselves in a fast-food joint in Liberty Square.

Steve was actually quite against Stark's this choice, because he knew Stark liked fast food. However, the fast food he liked was custom-made, clean fast food. He was probably unlikely to appreciate genuine American fast food.

Stark excitedly shoots in an order for two double cheeseburgers, two large portions of fries, a large box of onion rings, two strawberry cinnamon pies and half a plate of white and red sauce. Then he fills two large cups up with coke from the drinks machine.

The two of them sat down in the restaurant, and Stark excitedly unpacked his burger, saying, "I am kinda hungry, and I haven't eaten real fast food in such a long time. Let's have a feast and steal the thunder here."

Having said that, he took a bite.

The very next second, he spat it back out.
