章節 1902: Chapter 1286 Greedy Catching Cicadas (Middle)_2

Though Shiller lay in bed, blinking ceaselessly, seemingly falling asleep, another figure had taken a seat by Batman in the theater. Their form of communication differed greatly from the arrogant and Batman; they were not conversing, but greed was infecting Batman with its madness.

What was surprising was that Batman was being infected by another form of madness.

The fact was, Batman's depth and darkness were far from their end. Greedy Shiller kept reminding him of this — darkness was not about control over a particular city or groups, it was about control over everything and all concepts in the universe, true darkness, should be greed.

"Human race once brutally murdered their god," Greed proclaimed in a fluctuating tone, as if intoxicated, blinking incessantly, "This is what humans are best at, using something boiling to kill the mysteries that exist in concepts. The more turbulent it is, the more brutal it is."

"In my cosmos, no one sees the sun with any reverence anymore, as they all know it's nothing more than a large energy engine. Now, we are extracting energy from it for our usage, and there will come a day when the sun will extinguish, but we will continue to move ahead."

"Why should we be afraid of things that are born out of coincidence? You and I both know that the birth of all bodies in the universe originates from a coincidence, and the city you live in is no different."

"Indeed, it was so unfortunate to become a source of darkness in the universe, and you too were so unlucky to be born here and suffer through a series of tragedies, but that isn't the endpoint."

"The birth of the human race is also a tragedy; when the first human footprint touched the land, beasts were lurking everywhere, enemies abounding, and we, powerless against the fang and talon-equipped foes, had no advantage at all."

"Then, we started to learn to gather sticks, to drill wood for fire, igniting the first flame. What does that represent? It signifies we finally controlled our own fate, that we owned something other beasts didn't."

"The first fire ignited, it's something you have that others don't, it's called 'wisdom'."

"But it seems like you're always ashamed of this, feeling like you've stolen something if you don't give back to society in the most direct and violent way, then you're seen as an absolute coward."

"Even though you have the ability to set a fire in such deep and dense darkness, a fire that others cannot ignite, to burn away the damned, so-called predestined curses thoroughly, causing gods to weep and tremble. However, you didn't do it, only because you're not greedy enough."

"Batman, Batman…" echoes the voice of greed in the theater.

Batman found that he was always mesmerized by Shiller's tone, by every word he said, and by every point he made, which he shouldn't have been, as Shiller was the Joker, and Batman shouldn't be listening to the Joker.

"If you have burning ambitions, so tremendous that they can set the world on fire, then no darkness, no matter how dense, can confine the flames ignited by greed."

"Think about more, want more; feel like the fire in front of you is never enough, then create more wood."

"Don't perceive the offenders as enemies; see them as essential fuel for the fire. Their madness doesn't match their wisdom, so when you set them ablaze, they become more lustrous."

"Arrogance has proven to you, this path is effective. Ask them to burn themselves for you, they are obviously willing to do so…"

"They are clearly willing to follow you, forever worship, give everything to you, always consider you as a god, but you abandoned them in the snow night."

"Don't be so cruel, Batman," Shiller said, closing his eyes and leaning back in his chair, his tone gentle and soothing: "Don't let those pieces of wood burn out in the darkness of the night, let them gather into a greater flame, burn through the overcast and darkness that is destined."

"How greedy can you get, to not even spare a group of mental patients?" Batman turned his gaze towards greed, saying, "You don't even spare yourself, you even want to burn yourself."

"That is greed!" Greed raised his voice, "We are not arrogantly treating everyone as kindling, we just love the flames so much, we are intoxicated and overwhelmed by them, and therefore do not mind throwing ourselves into them, to fight for a brighter future for everyone."

"Batman, don't tell me, you are such a coward." Shiller began his elegy once again, but his tone was completely different from that of arrogance. He was not indifferent, but rather full of passion and enthusiasm.

It was clear that he loved everyone, if it weren't for love, such a vibrant emotion, no one else could say such crazy things.

"Because of your own shame and morals, you dare not let those pieces of wood that you've left in the darkness, burn themselves for a greater goal. My friend, the arrogant, you ought not to be such a coward."

"You should let them into your heart, merge into your heart, among the things that you crave the most. Ignite a fire, burn yourself while also dispersing the gloomy clouds over Gotham, sending those damned curses to hell."
