Chapter 5: The best friend
Tyler placed baby Eveleigh in her crib. He adjusted her head, so her little neck wouldn't hurt when she wakes up the next morning. God! He could watch her all the day and never get bored. Tyler loved being a Dad except now he is in constant fear. That type that of fear that his heart beats faster, pulse races and he has difficulty concentrating at work because now he was responsible for the safety of another human being.
Tyler felt sweat drip down his neck and it was freezing outside! Tyler rubbed his hands together and he felt goose bumps just as he was about to let go. He might be in constant fear but he was also in love, in love with his wife and his daughter.
The butterflies in his stomach, the increase muscle tension and the accelerated breathing rate was now a constant and he has to accept that life as he knew it was over. He was afraid he will keep being frightened for his daughter forever. After all, the entire world was a scary place for a little girl.
A week ago, it was that she would stop breathing in the middle of the night and so he camped out in her nursery to hear her breathe. It was the only way he was able to sleep peacefully in the armchair in the nursery and it wasn't until his wife, Charity threatened to make him eat broccoli for a week that he reconsidered leaving his daughter's side.
Eveleigh stirred as her father's hand left her head but she didn't open her small adorable eyes.
"I love you sweetie"
Tyler murmured before leaving the nursery but not before checking the baby's monitor on the table near the crib.
Charity was putting on lotion on her hand and neck when Tyler ended the room. She was an elegant attorney with a slender athlete body and oval face. Charity had green eyes, small lips and the perfect body. She was a natural blonde too. She was gorgeous and she knew it, even took advantage of it.
Most Attorneys she had gone up against, always take a look at her and decides she wasn't brilliant enough to win a case. Blondes aren't supposed to be smart or brilliant criminal attorney.
Charity loves playing the dumb blonde until it was time to tear apart their case bits by bits until they have nothing to hold on to.
It was how she first met Demi, the first case Demi ever lost was to Charity Jerome and that was six years ago.
Charity turned around briefly when her husband walked in. She was still in a red nightwear which was transparent and sexy. Tyler's gaze swept through Charity's body before he pulled her up to himself to kiss her. Was it possible to lust after his wife and the mother of his child? Tyler always wondered.
Tyler knew with all his heart that the day he stopped loving Charity was the day he will stop breathing, because she was his life. He smiled when he remembered how they met two years ago.
Two years ago, Tyler had accidentally backed up into Charity's car. He had been in a hurry to meet up with a client after leaving the court house. His little sister had been arraigned for shop lifting in that same court a few minutes earlier.
He left a sticky note on the car door with his contact information and apology, so the owner of the car could reach him for insurance purposes.
The next morning, Tyler discovered someone had keyed his car but was kind of enough to leave a message behind 'NOW WE ARE EVEN'.
Charity was a force, too brilliant for her own good with looks that is worth dying for.
"Do you think I am soft now that I have Eveleigh and you?" Charity asked as soon as she disentangled from her husband's mouth.
Tyler gave out a laugh. He was really amused but Charity wasn't.
"Ally seems to think I have gone soft. I think she is right" Charity's voice was low.
"Feisty, I don't think it is cosmically, legally or humanly possible for Charity Jerome and soft to coexist in the same sentence"
Feisty....it was the name he first called Charity two years ago after he tracked her down for keying his car. It was meant to be an insult but then it became an endearment.
"Stop calling me that silly name Ty." Charity tried to suppress a smile. She had both bad and good memories associated with that name.
"Oh come on baby....you love that name" Tyler nibbled on her ear sending waves and waves of tingling sensation down her spine.
"I have you and Eveleigh. I don't mind being called soft" Charity said
Tyler made a face at her.
"Okay... okay, I mind"
Tyler started laughing and Charity joined in few seconds later.
Few minutes later, Charity's phone rang but she was busy and so she ignored it. The caller called again and again but Charity Jerome had a stance against picking a phone call while she was making out with her hot husband.
To Charity, Tyler's looks was almost sinful, with his hazel eyes and muscular body. His porcelain skin was as smooth as a baby's stomach and he stood over her like a very tall eastern white pine tree.
Charity's phone rang one more time before she heard the landline ring.
"Maybe we should get that" Tyler suggested "it might be important"
"Let it go to voicemail. I am super....super busy" Charity kept kissing her husband.
The landline rang again and went to voicemail.
"Charity for the love of Christ, pick your dumb phone....I have a baby with me and I am going crazy"
Charity heard the desperation in Demi's voice and did she just say Baby?
"Wait... did Aaliyah just say..." Tyler pulled back from his wife's embrace
"... Ally has a baby with her. Oh my God, I've got to go Tyler" Charity stood up hurriedly and on a second thought she turned to look at Tyler.
"Don't worry about me and Eveleigh, go... please. Demi Aaliyah Macks has a baby with her!"
After Charity pull on a crew neck sweater and sweat pants, she blew a kiss at Tyler and headed out the door. Getting a cab was easier than driving herself, so Charity hailed a cab for herself and luckily one stopped. As she sat at the back of the cab, her mind raced to different scenarios on how Ally got her hands on a baby but she couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation. God help that baby!
There was fire on the mountain and she hopes she gets there in time enough to put it out.
