Jacquelyn's thoughts were occupied with one person: Kael. Was Kael really as kind and gentle as the boy had said? And what about asking him how he felt about her? Was that the best option for her?

"Of course!" Jacquelyn sat up on the bed, using the pillow to support her head. If she wanted to know her position in the castle, then she needed to know what she meant to Kael. Or was she just another case of charity, like Ballister brought back home out of pity? Was that what she really wanted to be to Kael?
