As the faded wooden carriage wheels creaked on the rocky hills, trotting down to the town, Jacquelyn rested her head on the side, staring blankly through the window as they passed trees and grass. She watched the trees fall back as if they were moving too, and the leaves danced with the morning wind.

Jacquelyn couldn't help but think about Kael and their past carriage rides. The first time she had been in a carriage with him, Kael had asked her to be the coachman. Jacquelyn chuckled softly, pressing her forehead on the window pane. She closed her eyes, inhaling deeply as she felt the coldness on her forehead. Absentmindedly, Jacquelyn rubbed her hand on her chest, her fingers grazing the mark that was there.
