The Ascended Beast was a ten foot tall gorilla-type, and it didn't even flinch at my opening shot even though it did visibly have an effect, leaving a decent sized burn on its chest. Not long into the fight, it was apparent that this particular species was fueled by rage even more so than the average magical beast. I'd seen a few "beast techniques" by now, and the only one this beast seemed to have, despite its Ascended status, was something that involved beating its chest to make it even faster and stronger for a few minutes. Its method of attack was also very simple—it constantly chased me, trying to get me in its hands so that it could crush me to death. I had no doubt that if it succeeded at the first part, the second would follow quickly. Of course, these were simulation conditions but the thought of how unpleasant it would be, even if I wouldn't actually die, was a helpful contribution to my adrenaline.
