The best I'd heard, the furthest I'd gotten in lines of thinking on this, was that the "mana" or whatever avant-garde flavor of the month put into the spell changed the water to be different from ordinary water in some way. 

But if I could execute a minor Transmutation of my Aura from Ice to Water, then grant it a Healing property…wouldn't that be the foundation of any number of healing techniques?
