章節 45: Charles’s Ambitions

While Mila Morgan stands at the apex of corporate power, having secured her empire alongside Drake Hawthorne, her younger brother, Charles Morgan, finds himself watching from the sidelines. For most of his life, Charles has lived in Mila's shadow, benefiting from the family name without ever taking on the responsibilities that came with it. He had often sought shortcuts, using charm and reckless decisions to maneuver through life, but Mila's rise—the calculated brilliance with which she won the corporate war—ignites something deeper within him. He craves his own identity, his own success, and his own legacy.

For years, Charles had been content playing the part of the charming, carefree playboy, the younger sibling who would always have the family fortune to fall back on. But now, with Mila's empire cemented and the spotlight firmly on her, Charles feels the weight of his own insignificance pressing down on him. For the first time in his life, he is struck by the realization that if he doesn't step up now, he might fade into obscurity, forever remembered as Mila's brother rather than a force of his own.

Charles begins attending exclusive networking events, making connections in circles he had previously only drifted through without purpose. He starts reading, learning, immersing himself in the tech world, which has long intrigued him. Soon, he announces his latest ambition: the creation of his own tech startup focused on sustainable innovation—a field buzzing with potential and ripe for disruption.

At a family dinner one evening, Charles, full of enthusiasm, shares his plans with Mila and Drake. His eyes gleam with excitement as he lays out the vision for his company—how he plans to revolutionize the tech industry by creating green, sustainable technologies that will outlast fossil fuels and help save the planet. His pitch is well-rehearsed, and for a moment, it's easy to get swept up in his passion.

"I'm calling it Ecovate," Charles says, his voice brimming with ambition. "It's going to be massive. Sustainable energy, smart cities, green tech—we're going to be at the forefront of all of it."

The room falls quiet for a moment as Mila listens intently, her expression a mixture of pride and concern. It's not that she doubts Charles's potential—she knows he's charismatic, capable of drawing people in with his vision—but she's also painfully aware of his reckless streak, his tendency to rush headfirst into things without fully understanding the consequences.

Charles has never been one to plan carefully, and though Mila admires his newfound ambition, she can't shake the worry that his lack of experience will lead to disaster.

Later that evening, when they're alone in her penthouse, Mila decides to offer her brother some much-needed advice.

"Charles," she begins, sitting across from him in the sleek, modern living room, her voice calm but serious, "I'm proud of you for wanting to do this. It's important to carve out your own path, and I respect that. But building something from the ground up isn't easy. It takes time, patience, and a lot of calculated risks. You need to make sure you're smart about it. Don't rush into anything you're not ready for."

Charles, as usual, brushes off her concern with a carefree grin. He leans back on the couch, his confidence seemingly unshakable. "Come on, Mila. I've got this. I learned from the best, after all."

Mila smiles faintly at the comment, but deep down, a familiar sense of unease settles in her chest. She's seen Charles make impulsive decisions before—decisions that have led to bad deals, burned bridges, and close calls that her influence had to smooth over. She knows that while Ecovate sounds promising, the world of startups is ruthless—filled with hidden pitfalls that even seasoned entrepreneurs struggle to navigate.

"Just promise me," Mila says, her voice soft but firm, "that you'll take your time with this. Surround yourself with the right people—people who will tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear."

Charles waves her off, confident as ever. "Don't worry, sis. I'm not the same guy I was a few years ago. I'm serious about this. I want to make a name for myself, not just ride the Morgan wave."

Though Mila nods, a part of her remains unconvinced. She knows how intoxicating the thrill of success can be, and she also knows how easily Charles can be swayed by it. She's not sure if he's truly ready for the world he's about to step into—the world of cutthroat competition, sleepless nights, and ruthless investors who care more about returns than vision. She wants to believe in him, but history has made her cautious.

Still, she doesn't voice all of her doubts. Charles is determined, and she wants to give him the space to grow. For now, she'll offer her support and guidance from a distance. But in the back of her mind, there's a nagging feeling that Charles's journey might not be as smooth as he imagines. She can't shake the fear that his impulsive nature could lead him down a dangerous path, one that even she might not be able to pull him back from.

As Charles leaves her penthouse that night, full of optimism and excitement for his new venture, Mila watches him go, her mind still racing with thoughts of what might come. She has always been the protector in their family, the one who keeps things together, and now, she feels that weight more than ever. But Charles is an adult—he has to make his own choices. And whether he succeeds or stumbles, Mila knows she'll be there, ready to catch him if he falls.

For now, though, she'll let him take the leap, hoping that this time, he'll land on his feet.
