When I had called the others, I hadn't reached the injured person yet. I think that I was a little too scared to see them. If my wolf and senses were telling me that this person was my mate, did I really want to see them all bloody and injured like this? Would I be able to get that out of my mind?

No, I had to stop thinking like this. They were injured, and whether they were my mate or not, I needed to help them. I needed to make sure that they were OK. Especially if they were my mate, right? That was what I needed to do.

I stopped debating, even though it had only taken me seconds, it felt like minutes and hours. I ran to their side in a hurry and reached down toward them.

"Are you OK? Are you awake?" I called out to them, putting my hand on their arm as I spoke. "Hello?"
