"— I broke up with her, and yet for some reason, I still can't rid myself of her," Alex complained as he looked at his brother in the hope that Ryan had something to tell him.

Unfortunately, the young Collins had nothing more. He couldn't help but feel terrible on behalf of his brother. They shouldn't have given the woman shelter when she first showed up. Mercy had cost them and right now, they couldn't even do shit about it.

"Because you still love her," Ryan said, the realization dawning on him, about his hopeless brother's state. From where he was standing, they had already lost the fight, if Alex wasn't going to try and defend them.

They didn't have anything they could wield against Lia, because whether they liked it or not, the woman didn't have anything to lose. She had siblings who would stand in the line of fire for her, just to ensure she had a normal life.
