Just like he had been ordered, Osip moved quickly and divided the workers into two groups with each group having 30 individuals. Virtya had given Osip the detailed plan of how he wanted the finished mechanism to appear because Osip would have to supervise one group which will be working at the West side of the waterfall while Virtya would supervise the remaining group which will be working at the East part of the waterfall.
After Osip left with the 30 workers that were chosen for him to supervise, the workers that remained picked up their mattocks and Virtya showed them where to dig the trenches on the bank of the waterfall.
One should not forget that the assassin was lucky to find himself in Virtya's group of chosen workers. Virtya went ahead and divided the 30 workers into two groups, with each group having 15 individuals.
The first group that had the assassin was fortunate to be told to dig a vertical trench with a length of 10 metres into the ground. This trench would be dug just five metres away from the bank of the waterfall. The workers would dig the trench in shifts so that the digging would keep going forward without being halted.
However, the second group shivered when they were told where to dig another trench.
This group was to dig a more than 5 metres horizontal trench that had a diameter of a metre through the steep sided gorge of the waterfall so that this side-trench could connect perpendicularly with the trench that was being dug by the first group.
The workers of the second group hesitated for a moment but when they were nudged forward by a knight, they found the courage to hold onto the ladder that was descending further towards the plunge pool. The workers were needed to tie a rope around their waists and around the pole of the ladder and ensure that they didn't misstep and fall to their deaths in the plunge pool.
The first chosen worker of the second group descended slowly down the ladder and his heart palpitated madly as he heard the menacing powerful flowage of the water before it splashed forcefully at the plunge pool. Even if the huge volume of the falling water was slightly far away from the steep sided gorge where the worker was, this worker couldn't help but shiver uncontrollably when some water droplets fell on him.
"Don't look down there, just focus on what you are supposed to do." Virtya advised the worker with a warm voice that calmed him down.
He reached at the needed area and reached out for a rope from his pocket using his left hand as his right hand was still holding dearly onto the pole of the ladder.
After a tense search in his pockets, the worker finally found the rope and painstakingly tied it around his waist and further connected it around the pole so that it could hold him in place, he released his grip from the pole and fumbled around his back as he searched for the mattock that he tied on his back and when he found it, he heaved a sigh before he proceeded with the digging into the rocky wall.
The steep sided gorge of the waterfall was rugged but too steep in that it could not favor rock climbing but with the use of the ladder, it made it conceivable to climb this wall.
Sparks and bits of shattered rocks rained on the man's face but he didn't stop digging, he dug until the outline of the sideways trench could be seen. His hands were trembling so much in that it made energy to leave him and his grip on the mattock loosened, making it to fall towards the plunge pool, this little action almost made the worker to stumble and fall to the plunge pool as he wanted to catch the falling mattock but he came back to his senses and held dearly onto the pole, if not for the rope tied around his waist, this worker would have fell to his death, he could only thank Virtya for insisting that they should tie a rope around their waists when they were digging on that wall.
The worker looked up and saw Osip staring back at him angrily. Virtya and other higher-ups seemed to have left and it was only Osip who remained to supervise all the workers on both sides of the waterfall.
