Wang Jingfei stepped forward to wipe the blood from Guo Xiaopeng's mouth, her voice tender, "Does it hurt?" Guo Xiaopeng stared blankly at Li Xinjian's retreating figure, lost in confusion. Wang Jingfei asked softly, "Do you really want to know everything?"
Guo Xiaopeng's tangled thoughts finally came back to the present, and he nodded.
"I was indeed a police officer," Wang Jingfei said calmly.
Guo Xiaopeng shuddered slightly.
"Your intelligence was correct. I studied at the Police Academy for two years."
Guo Xiaopeng's eyes widened, his expression growing darker.
"I was in the same class as Li Xinjian, and we had a relationship that went beyond friendship." Guo Xiaopeng was stunned.
"Later, I took off my uniform and chose the path I believed was right."
Guo Xiaopeng suddenly erupted, shouting, "Why did you have to be a police officer? Why did the police have to be you?" After his outburst, Wang Jingfei calmly replied, "What's wrong with being a police officer? Strictly speaking, I never truly was one, just a dropout from the academy. Besides, teachers can go into business, farmers can start enterprises, why can't police officers? Your driver, Duan Hai, was once a police officer too."
Guo Xiaopeng was at a loss for words.
"I sensed your distrust long before today," Wang Jingfei said, brushing off her dust-free jacket. "Now that everything is out in the open, I feel relieved." Guo Xiaopeng's mouth twitched, but he couldn't speak.
Tears welled up in Wang Jingfei's eyes, "What's the use of talking now? I'm returning to Hong Kong today. Even if we meet again in this lifetime, it won't be often!" She turned and walked away. Deeply shaken, Guo Xiaopeng let the rain wash over his face as he watched her figure dissolve into the rain...
Dozens of police cars with flashing lights and wailing sirens surrounded Haizhou Tower. Armed police and SWAT teams swiftly moved in.
Qiang Min led the officers into the lobby. The lobby manager greeted them with a smile, "What can I do for you, officers?" Qiang Min showed his search warrant, "Haizhou Tower is under investigation for a major drug case. We have orders to search the premises!" He pushed past the manager and headed inside.
As they moved forward, Liu Mei suddenly appeared, blocking their way. Qiang Min looked down at her, "Are you going to obstruct justice?"
Liu Mei, undaunted, confronted him, "This is not some shady nightclub or underground sauna. This is a legitimate joint venture. No one can enter without the chairman and general manager's consent!" Qiang Min asked disdainfully, "Where are they?"
"They're out," Liu Mei replied.
"So you're saying we can't perform our duty?" Qiang Min retorted.
Liu Mei didn't answer.
Qiang Min snorted contemptuously and waved his hand, "Group one, take the elevator. Group two, take the stairs!" "I've already ordered all elevators shut down," Liu Mei said, evidently prepared.
"Two men guard the elevators. The rest, follow me up the stairs!" Qiang Min shouted. Liu Mei spread her arms, blocking the staircase, "You'll have to go over my dead body!"
The Mercedes rolled into the international airport and stopped at the terminal entrance. Guo Xiaopeng and Wang Jingfei hurried out and entered the building.
While Wang Jingfei handled her boarding pass, Guo Xiaopeng looked around.
In a short time, Wang Jingfei finished all procedures. Together, they walked to the security checkpoint. She took her handbag from him. He asked, "When will you return?" Wang Jingfei replied, "The best way to say goodbye is for those who need to leave to leave, and those who need to stay to stay." She then quickly walked through the yellow line of the security checkpoint.
After checking her documents, a security officer said, "Ms. Wang, please come with me." Wang Jingfei hesitated but followed the officer to the border inspection office. There, she saw Li Xinjian standing expressionless. She demanded sternly, "What do you want?"
Without looking at her, Li Xinjian coldly said, "You are ordered not to leave Haizhou City." Wang Jingfei, unafraid, asked, "Temporarily or permanently?"
Li Xinjian ignored her question, "You are also ordered to accompany me to Haizhou Tower."
Reluctantly, Wang Jingfei followed him out.
Guo Xiaopeng, just exiting the terminal, saw Li Xinjian leading Wang Jingfei into a Mitsubishi Jeep. Shocked, he hurried to his car and followed.
The Mitsubishi sped to Haizhou Tower and stopped at the entrance. Li Xinjian and Wang Jingfei got out.
Guo Xiaopeng, in his Mercedes, quickly followed. He saw the two enter the lobby and jumped out, rushing after them.
As Li Xinjian and Wang Jingfei entered, the police officers made way. An officer reported, "Liu Mei says no one can enter without the chairman and general manager's consent."
Li Xinjian glanced at Wang Jingfei, and they quickly reached the staircase. Wang Jingfei approached Liu Mei, who was blocking the way, "Let them go up. They won't find anything."
Liu Mei ignored her, telling Li Xinjian and Qiang Min, "The legal representative is Guo Xiaopeng. No one else's words matter."
Qiang Min was furious, "Didn't you just say the general manager's consent was enough?"
"That was then, this is now," Liu Mei replied stubbornly.
Li Xinjian, having noticed Guo Xiaopeng tailing them from the airport, looked around.
Sure enough, Guo Xiaopeng stepped forward, "Ms. Liu, let the police officers through." Liu Mei hesitated but remained defiant.
Li Xinjian, equally enraged, ordered Qiang Min, "Detain her!" Qiang Min grabbed Liu Mei like a hawk catching a chick and set her aside.
Li Xinjian announced loudly, "I declare that Haizhou Tower and its general manager are under investigation for a drug case. We will conduct a thorough search. Please cooperate!"
The employees exchanged nervous glances and scattered in fear. Li Xinjian and Qiang Min led the officers to the fifteenth floor, heading straight to Wang Jingfei's executive suite. Wang Jingfei smiled calmly and opened the door.
The search began immediately.
Wang Jingfei changed into casual clothes and stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the sea of police cars below indifferently.
A police officer swiftly opened the back of the TV and pulled out several sealed bags containing white powder. He walked over to Li Xinjian, "Captain Li," he said, handing over the evidence.
Li Xinjian opened a bag, sniffed a bit, tasted it with his tongue, then put it into an evidence bag.
Caught off guard by this unplanned event, Wang Jingfei's face paled. She asked Li Xinjian quietly, "What is that?"
Li Xinjian, his face cold and unyielding, ignored her.
