章節 14: Change is in the air.
March 2013.
When the missiles exploded nobody understood. The mondial population expected to dies and dissappear in a massive explosion caused by a nuclear war, despair invaded everyone.
But what happened was something unexpected but just as scary, the missiles indeed explode but in the sky. It was unclear, what was the point in making all of these missiles explode at a distance where nobody will be touched by the them. It's only after scientists from all around the world made analysis that the answer appeared.
A unknown chemical agent was present in the missiles, the purpose was never to kill but to release something in the air and contaminated the most peoples possible. With the wind, the chemical agent didn't take long to go in every region of the globe. The waters and the food was also contaminated but when they learned that it was already too late.
More than 85% of the global population had been infected by this unknown chemical agent.
Flashback, December 2011.
The missiles have reached the most optimal position to explode. When finally they all detonate, a wave of euphoria hit a large part of the population. They didn't die in fact the majority of people hurt or dead was not caused by the missiles at all.
The purpose of this project was never to eradicate the human races, on the contrary its too push humanity to the next big step of evolution.
The gene allowing witches, warlocks and others magical species to exist and manipulate the energy of the universe. This gene is dormant in every human. But the activation of this gene in the majority of the population would have take thousands of years to achieve naturally.
The project: Genesis is the forced activation of the gene on a massive scale. The missiles released a chemical agent that contaminated waters and every sources of food. When this chemical agent is introduced in the human body it forced the gene to become active. The degree of activation is different for everyone some might be more sensitive to this evolution and will obtain more benefits than others.
But the world will not know this immediately, sometimes months can be necessary for the processus to be completed.
Everything has already changed, it's just that nobody have realized it yet.
End flashback.
The first month of the year 2013 could be qualified by one word chaos. Feeling death being so close make some people react in a very dangerous way. Riot, robberies and the number of murders increased drastically.
A semblance of peace was regain on march, governments take back control and armies reinstate the calm and order on cities. Citizens begin to work again, the world almost look normal and back to the way it was before what is now dubbed the "2012 event".
But beneath the surface, another story is currently being written.
Mystic Falls.
Sammael walk through the small city, Mystic Falls the cradle of the supernatural. He spent a few days here and apparently a tragedy happened. After the call he received from Elena Gilbert he posted one of his contact to collect information and to keep him updated on Elena, Stefan, Damon and the others.
His contact kept his distance and report to him regularly. The last information Sammael received was that during the night of the 21 december 2011, Elena Gilbert completly lose control and killed the love of her life accidently. Damon Salvatore perish, losing control of her Pyrokinesi she set him on fire. Without having to time to react he was dead, this accident made her turning her humanity off again.
After this, Sam's contact disappeared.
Still walking, he feel a presence approach him. His Telepathy capte the thought of the person following him.
" Lena, you didn't learned to control your abilities. You had so much potential, your father made a mistake when he let you go back to a normal life. " Sammael say without turning back.
" It was your fault. You transform me into a monster, I killed the person I loved the most because of your obsession to play God. " A female voice answer.
" I offered you the world. I made you unique,powerful, your lack of control was not of my doing. I give you the courtesy to warn you about the consequences of the transition into a vampire. " Sammael continue. He turn around and watch the form of Elena Gilbert getting out of the shadow.
" I am going to kill you. No matter how long it's going to take, I will kill you. " Elena answer a cold rage seeping into her voice.
" I learned everything I could from you. Provoking me will not end the way you imagine it. " Sam respond calmly, losing interest seconds after seconds.
" The guy following me around was sent by you I suppose. You'll be happy to know that I burned him alive. " Elena say, she start to walk slowly to him with a predatory look in her eyes.
" He accomplished his objectives. His death would have come one way or another. " Sammael add.
" Since I burned the love of my life, I spend every single moment of my time learning to control my powers. Maybe I can't kill you without white oak but I can make suffer. " Elena shout, she try to set Sammael on fire but nothing happens, she try to use her Telekinesis too but nothing happens. In a last ditch effort she try to rush with her vampire speed to Sam. But before she can even take a single step Sammael snap his fingers.
Elena's body explode in a shower of blood, leaving organs, intestines, and trails of blood on the walls and on the ground.
" So predictable. " Sam say to himself releasing a sigh.
April 19, 2013.
" Multiples strange and unexplained occurrence is currently happening pretty much everywhere, "augmented" individual is the most common term to describe it on the internet. The phenomenon is for now unexplained but a lot of speculation are made. The theory with the more credit is that these "augmented" individuals are a result of what is called the "2012 event". The chemical agent has still not be understand but governments reveal that this agent caused a mutation in the population. We'll continue to pay attention to any news and reports it to you. " Sammael turn of the television, 54% of the mondial population have their gene activited by the end of the year more than 85% will be an augmented.
Unknow location.
" Armies are already trying to weaponize the new augmented, do we use our influence to slow this or do we let them experiments ? " November ask with uncertainty.
" Let them be. They could find something interesting with their experiments. " October answer him.
" The real question is do we let the vampires and others supernatural species reveal themselves ? There is group of vampires who completely disgard discretion. How the world will react when they learn that immortals are among them, worst they could understand that the Deorum de Terra is real and composed of vampire. " August says.
" We at least have the advantage of being diurne, a normal vampire is easily detected when they don't have a sunlight ring. " April respond.
" Being low key is the most important thing to do right now in my opinion, its imperative the project: Genesis stay secret . Our implications must never be revealed to the general public. " February warn.
" They should thank us, we give them the power and opportunity to be more. " June add.
" Thank us ? Do I need to remind you of the millions of death because of our project. " July reply.
" Sacrifice are needed to goes beyond obstacles. " November assure.
" The annuals meeting will have to be postponed for a few years. Everyone is actually looking for the responsibles of the "2012 event". Making sure humanity don't destroy itself with these powers should be our priority. This period is the most crucial, the political climat is unstable if we don't make sure to have a minimum of control over the reactions of the most powerful countries and the public opinion all of this could quickly degenerate. " December says to the 11 members of the Deorum de Terra.

The world have change, a lot. The comparison between before 2012 and after is shocking. Individualism have become the most predominant way of thinking for a lot of people. But there is some things that didn't changed much, having powers don't exempt people to work, to have family, to be good or bad.
On the other hand supernatural species have entered the light, synthetic blood, basement made specifically for werewolves...
War and violence changed too, medecine has made leaps forward, hospitals have now constantly in reserve vampire blood and the research on the subject is just in its infant stage.
Technological advancements like medecine begin to accelerate, study of energies... Governments discovered the existence and purpose of the "magical" gene but kept the discovery a secret. They begun to make experiments on it and to explore the possibilities it can offer.
Contrary to Sammael expectations project:Genesis worked even better than he thought, in one year more than 90% of the population gained powers. Of course some bad reactions to the evolution result in deaths but the majority adapted and are thriving.
Suddenly Sam feel psychic energy approaching him, the rare feeling of surprise appear in him. Psychic power even in this day and age is not something banal. Waiting for the person generating this energy, he evaluate the quality and quantity, while impressive it is lacking in comparison to his own psychic energy.
The door to his laboratory open and in front of him is a black man wearing a grey suit, the man exude heat and seem almost ethereal like an apparition or a ghost.
" Sammael Mikaelson, you are exactly how I pictured you. " the man say pleasantly.
" I am at disadvantage, you know me but I have not the pleasure to know you. " Sammael answer with the same tone. The two gauge each other, like two predator they try to find the weakness in the other.
" My name is Arcadius, the first psychic. Ruler of below. " Arcadius present himself with pride and take a sits in front of Sam.
" Interesting. Do tell the reason of your visit dear guest. " Sammael ask with his usual calm.
" I was simply curious. You are the person who sent the most souls to my realm, if I wasn't me I would certainly be impressed by your exploits." Arcadius answer playfully.
" You seem awfully sure of yourself. I have to admit that I find it rude. I particularly dislike rudeness. " Sam retort with a gentle smile on his face. His eyes on the contrary don't lose their cold and analytic glint.
" I am your elder, doesn't it give me the right to be pretentious, but I suppose I own you an ounce of respect, you are after all my most prolific ferryman. " Arcadius continues to taunt Sammael.
" Ferryman. Strange choice of word, do you fancy yourself as Hades ? " Sam respond.
" Comming from someone named Sammael I find it amusing. Are you truly a poison for God, I wonder. " the black man say.
" I doubt my name was chosed in reference to the Bible or because of the significance of it. " Sammael answer.
" Maybe it was destiny, or the providence. " Arcadius retort, he stand up and get ready to leave.
" Like you I find the idea of the divine repulsing, but know that hell follow behind me. " Arcadius say before closing the door and disappearing.
A second after, Sammael is already analysing the conversation and deducting the most informations possible.
He can't help but find this interaction with Arcadius stimulating, it seem he found another subject to study and research.
The future is full of promises, he just hope this adversary won't disappoint him like the precedents ones. But the secrets of the "devil" are worth investments, maybe he'll find something useful, and knowledge is never useless.
