章節 14: I’m Dangerous

Listening to Pride's voice, I found my way outside of the bear's house without too much trouble. The rest of the voices were arguing about what they thought I should do next, but I wasn't really paying attention to them.

This was the first time that I could remember where I had a choice in where my life went next, and I really didn't like that. Life was so much easier when someone else made all the decisions, but I also didn't like the suggestions that the demons were coming up with.

Building my own city and saving a bunch of ungrateful people? That was so overdone that it was laughable. Everyone wanted to be the one person in power, and they were probably more willing to kill to get it.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind the idea of killing people, but the whole process was a bit too messy for my liking. You had to deal with the blood and bodies, and now that the dead just popped right up again like daisies in the springtime, it was just a pointless exercise as far as I was concerned.

Greed's idea that I collected as many supplies as Teddy could hold did have merit, but it wasn't like I had a place to cook everything that I collected… nor could I actually see what I was collecting in the first place either.

I liked Pride's idea that I could find a quiet place where I could live by myself, but I needed the guys around me, in person if at all possible, and that wasn't happening without more wishes.

And wishes required people.

So that idea wasn't possible either.

A sharp stone dung into the soft arch of my right foot, but I ignored the pain as nothing more than a minor annoyance…

And a reminder that while I wanted boots, I clearly forgot all about them.

"I wish I had perfectly fitting socks that stayed up all the time with black combat boots that could stop a gator from bitin' through," I muttered out loud, causing the guys to stop bickering for a second.

What was the point of having the power to grant wishes if I didn't do it to get myself a pair of shoes?

"And a comfortable outfit with underwear but no bra," I hurriedly continued. "I wish for that, too."

"Wish granted," murmured the female voice and I could have sworn that I heard laughter in her response.

I felt the children's pants and a long-sleeve shirt that I was currently wearing disappear, and in its place was what felt like a dress with underwear underneath, as well as combat boots and socks.

"Does this work?" I asked, cocking my head to the side when the guys remained silent. "Or should I have specified colors?" The skirt felt fluffy like I was wearing a tutu or something, and when I ran my hands up over my arms, I felt like I was wearing fingerless gloves or something.

But nothing was pressing against the staples still in my arms, so I guess that was a good thing, too.

"Lord of the Dark, save us," whispered Lust, his voice completely different from how he normally sounded. "We're fucked."

"Not really," replied Envy. "We just need to make sure that we can keep what is ours."

"That's not going to be a problem," grunted Greed as I spun around toward their voices. "We just need a few more wishes."

"And a few more brothers," added Pride with a long sigh. "But fuck, she is perfect."

His voice was so low that I didn't think I was supposed to be able to hear him, but the sheer reverence in his voice was something that made me blush.

I soothed on hand down my skirt, feeling the silky texture as it made a ruffle sound. I didn't know what I looked like, but I knew I felt good.

"So, we keep her away from all humans, right?" clarified Lust. "We've agreed on that, right?"

There were three grunts that made me burst out laughing as I spun around again. Clutching Teddy to my chest, I skipped forward, feeling more alive and free than I ever had before. I didn't know what the future had in store for me, but laissez les bons temps rouler. And however that dice fell, I would be good.

"Mais non, mon guy," I purred, looking over my shoulder, even though there was nothing there. "I am going to find all the humans."

Apparently, finding all the humans in the middle of an apocalypse was a lot harder than it sounded.

It felt like I had walked for hours, and my poor legs and feet were taking a beating. I don't think I had walked this much in all my life, and it sucked.

"We are almost to the city," murmured Envy, trying to keep my spirits up. "Even if you can't find people in there, there should be a place where you can sleep for the night."

I know he was trying to be nice, but I was feeling a bit stabby at the moment.

"Too tired," I moaned, flopping down on the side of the road. Sure, I thought there was a rock or log that I would have landed on, but the road worked, too. As long as I wasn't walking, I was good. "I'm not leaving this spot, and there is nothing you can do to make me."

"I could always carry you; would that work better?" the voice who spoke was not one of my voices, and I could feel myself tense up.

"Who are you?" I asked, sitting up and frantically looking around. Was there another human here? "Where are you? What do you want? I warn you, I'm dangerous."

A disclaimer was always important when beginning a new relationship. I wasn't sure who told me that, but I am pretty sure it's a well known fact.

"About as dangerous as a kitten, I'm sure," continued the voice, and I heard it lowering until I felt the breath of someone in front of me.

And my demons were nowhere nearby.
