A figure was rushing through the maze of corridors, to report the information he had just received. The information was so bizarre, and yet his commander had managed to forsee such an event.
A blast of light from the direction if the south pole, beamed around 10 minutes ago. And overall, it had taken him 15 minutes to reach the commanders sleeping quarters, even if he was an earth bender.
Deapite that, the man, although in a hurry, did not forgot to knock on the door as a sign of respect for his superior.
A few moments later, a young white-haired man, with Azure eyes opened the door lazily and yawned at the soldier before him.
"What is it?" The young man asked.
"Sir, the light" The soldier reported with a calm and straight face, something that was embedded into him during his training. "The appearance of a beam of light near the south pole has been reported."
The news, zapped away any sign of laziness and exhaustion, on the young man's face. He stood there for a second, taking in the news, before revealing a smile.
"I want all of the captains to report to the command room in 20 minutes. Thank you for the news...."
"West"
-------------------------------------------------------
It had been a few very difficult months, after the discovery of the meteorite metal. And a few things had changed.
The first most notable thing was Kypher was no longer in Ba Sing Se. Nor in any city, in the four nations, for the matter.
After a few days of deliberation, Kypher had decided to create a secret organisation. One that he had named, The Grey League.
Of course, since this was a secret organization, they had to have a secret HQ. Those two always went together.
Another thing he found out was, his directional tattoo, was a more useful than what he thought. After a few hours without any success, he had given up hope at finding a suitable base location: Ba Sing Se didn't work as it was too far from the conflict and would soon be over run; The western air temple, although very suitable, was too close to the fire nation, plus it was well known;
However after asking his tattoo for a perfect location with all of his requirements together, the answer shocked him.
It was so simple yet be never realised it.
The Great Divide
It was an amazing location. It was massive, and hidden, not many passed through and those that did, always went in the same path. In addition it is fairly close to the river, to allow for sea transport and was dangerous for weak people, so nobody would find it.
After scouting the location, Kypher managed to find a decently large cave which was remodelled into a base of operation, a HQ.
Another major thing happened. A small number of the Dai Li had managed to learn, metal bending. And a few other had managed to learn sonar, albeit an a lot weaker one than Toph's sonar. The process of teaching these techniques had mentally strained Kypher, however, after a couple of soldiers had managed to learn it, it was enough for him.
Due to this, the base, instead of being made out of stone and wood, was actually made of metal, giving a more modern feel.
In addition to all of this, Kypher after establishing his base, had sent out a message to Retu. He and his Merriweather band of firebenders had also joined the Grey League.
So now the organisation had 2 benders: the Earth benders and the Fire benders. The only group missing were the water benders.
And although many of the fire benders were very reluctant at first, with a few snaps of his fingers, the problems somehow managed to disappear. Strange huh?
-------------------------------------------------------
Kypher sat at the head of the meeting table, while 6 other seats around the table, were claimed by the captains of each division.
Retu - fire division, which had 12 members so one captain was enough.
West - scout division
East - Infiltration and sabotage division
North - metal bender division which usually worked with the fire division
South - financial management and control division
Steel - blacksmithing division.
Over all the Grey League had turned into a decently large organisation, with 113 members, most of which were Dai Li.
During his meeting at the end or that month he was surprised by the amount of soldiers the Dai Li had. And after a few snaps, they all started to respect him, while the ones who knew what was going on covered their ears as much as the could, diminishing the effect of the sound on them.
"This is a sign, my friends." Kypher started off " That the avatar has returned" This did not surprise anyone in the meeting. The had expected it. "By my estimation, the avatar is right now in the south pole." A grin appeared on his face as he continued
"Most probably trying to ride a few seals". Nobody, not even Retu, laughed or smiled at the the info, which annoyed Kypher, making him grumble to himself "What a tough crowd you guys are."
At which Retu shot back, "Kypher, you are the head of a large organization, and this is an important meeting. Not the time."
Kypher sighed in response before going on, "I don't want any contact with the avatar, for now." The group nodded in agreement. "The avatar has to realise the situation himself. However I will have to ask you, West, to keep a small group following them, until the reach Gaoling, do not, I repeat do not follow them after that. Understood?"
The man nodded in understanding.
"Great, now Steel, how are we doing with the weapons?" He asked the large man.
"Everything is being prepared, the meteorite alloy is complex, but we managed to finish the swords, the suits however, are still being perfected as we speak." Steel reported in his usual calm tone.
After the creation of his weapons, Kypher had an epiphany. What if he just stole the metal strings and uniform the police force had in LOK? Nobody could tell him off, could they? Plus he had his own force of soon to be metal benders.
So the cables and uniform were designed.
"East, how are our contacts in the west" He asked his spy master.
"The fire nation currently has no new information about the location of the avatar. While the puppy is closing in on the south pole. We believe that he may find the avatar."East pointed out, at which Kypher nodded expecting the situation.
"Retu, how are we with the lessons?" Kypher asked the appointed fire division captain.
"4 of them have managed to learn redirection, 5 have finally started to create sparks and 2 are still struggling to redirect." Retu answered after a brief thought
"That makes 11. What about him?" Kypher mysteriously hinted
"He managed to do it. Although I think he is pushing himself too hard. We need to let him recover" Retu stated with a sad face.
"Hmmm" Kypher contemplated about the pros and cons of the situation. "Send him over to me in the afternoon. I will talk to him. The fact that he is 12 doesn't matter. If he is pushing himself to breaking point, he will kill himself. And we do not want that" He paused before revealing a frown.
"After all, He is our Combustion bender."
----------------------------------------------------------
"Commander, Fire bender Lee is here" A guard outside of Kypher's study called out to him.
"Let him in" Kypher ordered, while looking out through the one-way glass into the canyon. A nifty design, created by Steel.
"Sir" A low voice called out behind him. "May I ask why was I called here" Kypher turned around and looked at the kid in front of him. The scrawny black hair did nothing to hide the vertical red eye on his forehead.
"Lee... Retu found you on the street, in the fire nation capitol, battered, starved, exhausted. He gave you a choice. One that you chose to accept. And yet here you are. Breaking your bones and burning your flesh over and over again, for absolutely no gain.
You still have not recovered from the accident, so why are you pushing yourself so hard?"
Lee just sat there, lost in thought." Sir, when my parents gave me my tattoo, I was exhilarated. So when, I lost them to a bounty hunter, I was devasted at my inability to fight back and protect them. I don't want to feel like so ever again."
Kypher sat there in silence and listened to the kid retelling his story.
After a long silence, he finally said something "Lee. I want you to promise me. During practise if you fail. You will rest. You will wait for your body to heal. To grow stronger, while your mind searches for the answer as to why, you failed. And then, only then will you try again. Capishe?"
Lee just stared in confusion, while Kypher waited for an answer.
"Ehhh, Sir?" He asked in confusion
"What does Capishe mean?"
