Entering the mansion was a whole different atmosphere from what was seen outside with the introduction of Calamno's daughter, Patricia.
It was like one of the many houses that were bestowed from the Empire in my previous life. Overly spacious and expensive decor. Exotic plants of some sort on each side of a grand staircase that led up to the other floors. Other hallways were present beside the staircase, it seems this mansion contained more rooms than I originally thought.
Calamno, Rudif, and I walked in after Patricia. Well, after Calamno used a spell to fix the doors.
Another Dark Elf emerged from the shadows of the ginormous staircase. It was a male this time and boy was he was tall.
Standing at around 180 centimeters? No, a little bit taller, 182 centimeters. He has great posture and is really well-built. His entire body is probably evenly chiseled. He wore black robes with golden flowers and trees embroidered. His dark gray skin that all Dark Elves seem to have was similar to Patricia's smooth skin. It wasn't as smooth as hers but it also wasn't ashy as Calamno's. I would describe it as the midway point between rough and smooth skin. He had a strict but handsome-looking face.
I could tell from all the useless balls and dances I was invited to in my previous world. I didn't get why they would invite me. I held a high noble title for being the literal Sword of the Empire, but aside from my disciples, everyone looked at me in terror.
To continue, this Dark Elf had quite lengthy brown hair that was tied into a ponytail. This reminded me of my previous world. Martial Artists from the East would typically resort to tying their hair in such a fashion. I believe the reason behind it was so that if the opponent tries grabbing their hair, a ponytail would just slip out of their hands.
As he went up to Patricia, he yawned and stretched.
Those forearms are the personification of "protein", this guy sure doesn't miss out on his meals, huh?
When he spoke, he had a deep voice that I expected from him.
"Greetings, father. I don't think our house is a daycare, you shouldn't be hunting underaged humans."
"Rowan. Glad to see you're good at telling your jokes like always."
"Why thank you. I try my best."
"How is your training going? Oh right, it's gone isn't it?"
"What's gone?"
"Your training grounds. I believe that was behind the mansion?"
"Wait, what-"
Patricia sighed.
"Break it up ladies, we have guests for the first time in a while. Follow me, everyone."
The Dark Elf named Rowan leaned closer to Patricia. I activated a spell that heightened my sense of hearing.
"What happened to the training grounds outside?"
"I struck it a dozen times with lightning."
"H-honey!"
"You have anything to say?"
"S-sorry. I was just trying to have a little bit of fun with Rudif."
"Hm~ Alright. At least you're honest, I forgive you. I'll fix it up in a bit."
I deactivated my spell at that point. I wasn't interested anymore. Patricia led us through the hallway until we eventually entered a large room with a long ovular wooden table.
Rowan gestured for us to go inside.
"Sit anywhere you'd like to, this is the dining room."
Wow really? A room with nothing but a table and utensils is a dining room? Well, I sure am surprised.
You know what, Rowan, you didn't deserve that.
Things were moving really fast, everyone sat down and plates of food were flying into the room. I wonder what sort of complex magic spell was used. The three Dark Elves sat on one side of the table while Rudif and I took seats on the other side. I felt a few questions coming.
Patricia took an overly fancy fork and knife and started on her meal. It was still pretty early out, evident from the sun, but she was having a well-done steak. As she sliced up a thin slice and plopped it in her mouth, she started to talk.
"So, father, is this your new hobby? Collecting underaged humans?"
Calamno declined, "Of course not. The only woman I ever saw suitable is your mother."
"It better stay that way. Though, what gives? Father, need I remind you-"
Calamno finished her daughter's sentence as if he's already sat through this talk countless times, "That I'm one of The Twelve Dukes and I should be careful of my actions because it could ruin reputation and blah blah blah- Sweetie, it's not what you think it is."
Rowan butted in the conversation, "Really? First, you brought back Half-Beast carrying a rabbit, then you bring back a human? What is your goal?"
"Rowan you might've not felt it but I'm sure, Sweetie, that you have.", Calamno did a doubletake between Patricia and me.
Patricia has had a slightly perplexed expression, others didn't notice because it was very faint in her way of smiling back at her father.
"I'm not quite sure what I saw. Whether that much can come from a small child, a human child as well."
I took that as she was racist against humans. Though, it's completely understandable that they're doubting what they saw, or rather, felt. My killing intent or bloodlust isn't so easy to disregard and because of that, that's the only reason they haven't completely treated it as being delusional.
I think I'll rather get this over with. In the future, they'll probably find out either way. I spoke up.
"What are you guys talking about?"
Patricia smiled at me and leaned into Rowan's ear. Once again, I activated a spell to hear them.
"Gosh, he is just SO cute."
"Seriously, honey, you find EVERY kid absolutely adorable."
"Well, it's true, isn't it? The way he spoke was so childish!"
The spell was immediately deactivated. I was naive and unaware of how much of a child I am. Right now, my words are quite meaningless. I suppose I'll play with it I guess.
"Are you guys going to protect us?"
I saw Rudif in my peripheral vision glance over while he had stuffed his mouth with steak.
Rowan was the one to reply first, "Of course, kid. I heard from Rudif that you've been abandoned by your parents."
Patricia nodded her head, agreeing with Rowan.
Calamno, surprisingly, refused.
"No. That kid is going to be my future assistant! He has enough potential to make even those Sorcerer's Guild bastards go haywire."
Patricia argued against Calamno, "Father, he's just a small kid. I don't think he's suitable as of yet. And even so, you'd have to ask him."
"Doesn't matter if he doesn't become my assistant. We promised to be friends."
I'd like to intervene, "Did we?"
Calamno nodded his head firmly as if it's already confirmed I would be his friend, "Undeniably so."
I sighed.
Rowan brought the topic back on track.
"Seeing as how much he talks about the kid, I'm guessing what you guys felt is in all likelihood to be real as well."
He looked at me with his dark red eyes.
"You seem...dangerous."
"How so?"
"The way you move and the way your body is always ready to attack or defend."
"Are you a martial artist, Mister Rowan?"
"Haha, just Rowan will suffice. I'm no martial artist, however, I fancy using martial arts."
"I see. Trust me, I can't hurt anyone here. Especially not with those two around."
Rowan looked to his side at Patricia and Calamno. He had to agree with my words. There was no way I could do anything against one of The Twelve Dukes and his daughter who has equally frightening magical prowess.
Thankfully, Rudif stayed quiet about the pursuer. It would raise lots of suspicions if he were to make it known that I eliminated a trained professional.
Patricia put her hand on Rowan's shoulder.
"Don't worry darling, they come with nice intentions. Both of them have no place to stay, plus, both of us have been quite lonely for some time haven't we?"
Rowan reclined backward, "I guess you're right. So what do you two say? We'll bring you guys in. It's not like you have any destination in mind, right?"
I looked at Rudif and he didn't have any response. Seems like he'll follow whatever I say. It reassures me that Rudif already recognizes me as the one making the decisions, the leader. In that case, I answered on our behalf.
"We'll stay. Thank you so much!"
Good thing I had a child's voice. Patricia and Rowan seemed to have taken a liking to me.
Calamno also expressed his desires, "I'm staying as well."
"Really, father?", Patricia asks, "Are you really staying? It's been so long since you've stayed with us! I'll prepare the rooms right away!"
"Yeah...I am. I want to continue monitoring this child."
Rowan cleared his throat, "So what makes you so interested in this kid? A human kid to be exact."
Calamno smirked as if he was ready to show off, "This human has already awakened the ability to use magic."
Rowan slammed the table as he stood up. He was in denial.
"Impossible! Father, I'm nowhere near your insight in magic but everyone is aware that the typical age that an individual awakens their ability to use magic is sometime during their adolescent ages. The earliest recorded awakening was at the age of seven, which was you!"
Patricia patted Rowan on the back. He realized he might've scared Rudif and me as his face was flushed with guilt. He slowly sat back down.
"Sorry."
Patricia was also questioning her own father, "This human child who is so young and tiny, has already awakened their ability to use magic? Father, do you know how ridiculous that is? Even the most gifted and talented individuals of a strong background would at most awaken right when they reach double digits. Even myself, as your daughter, awakened my ability to use magic when I was twelve."
Calamno laughed.
"Even I did not believe it until I took a more careful examination of his mana. Take a look for yourselves, both of you."
Rowan and Patricia, the two Dark Elves, and their red eyes stared at me as if they were looking into my soul. Their eyes widened exactly as Calamno's when he first looked at me. Frankly speaking, I don't know what they see that's making them so surprised.
Rowan couldn't help but smile, "Amazing..."
Patricia grabbed my hand, "How did you do it?!"
Her pair of eyes seemed to belong to those of a puppy's.
"Your control over your mana flow is incredible at your age! This mana behavior is something I would only see in young human adults!"
Well, I understand their astonishment now. I'm physically a child, but they underestimated my mentality. It belongs to a warrior, nothing less and nothing more, regardless of the titles I acquired in my past life. All I am is a living weapon. My knowledge about mana and magic far exceeds any of your expectations.
