章節 9: Trouble Arises

Following Sophia's directions, Ethan soon reached another exit. They emerged into a parking lot filled with heavy trucks carrying containers.

Sophia pointed to a red Mercedes truck and said, "Drive that one; my things are inside."

"Okay."

Ethan nodded, ran to the truck, placed Sophia in the passenger seat, and then started the vehicle, heading towards Aston Manor.

"Thank you, Ethan."

Having escaped the danger zone, Sophia's emotions had completely stabilized. She looked at Ethan, who was driving intently, and spoke softly.

"It's what any man should do," Ethan replied with a smile. "Don't worry, Dr. Sophia. I'll protect you."

"Thank you, Ethan." Sophia nodded gently, her heart warming.

"You're welcome!"

Before long, Ethan arrived at the villa. Amelia, who had been waiting at the third-floor window, saw the truck and felt a wave of joy.

"Ethan is back!"

She immediately ran downstairs to meet him.

Ethan opened the door, jumped out, and smiled, "Amelia, I'm back."

Seeing Ethan alone, Amelia worried that he hadn't succeeded in rescuing Sophia. She asked with concern, "Did you come back alone?"

"Of course not," Ethan replied smugly. "When Ethan steps out, he never comes back empty-handed. Dr. Sophia, please come out."

As he spoke, the other door opened, and Sophia stepped out, approaching Amelia and introducing herself, "Hello, I'm Sophia."

Amelia was stunned by Sophia's breathtaking beauty. Although she had imagined what Sophia might look like, the reality exceeded her expectations. Sophia looked like she had stepped out of a painting, with exquisitely delicate features unmarred by age.

"She's my personal trainer," Ethan said, smiling at the awestruck Amelia.

Amelia rolled her eyes at Ethan and then smiled, "Hello, Dr. Sophia. I'm Amelia, a yoga instructor."

If Amelia epitomized extreme sexiness and allure, Sophia embodied ultimate gentleness and delicacy.

Looking at these two exceptional beauties and knowing he was the last man on earth, Ethan couldn't help but feel excited. He smiled and said, "You both go inside and rest. It's still dangerous out here with zombies roaming around."

"What about you?" Amelia asked.

"I need to move some supplies from the truck. These are things Dr. Sophia needs," Ethan replied.

"Thank you, Ethan. You're a hero!" Sophia said, giving him a big smile.

"It's no trouble."

Ethan then ran to the truck.

Inside the truck bed, he found nine wooden crates, each marked "Top Secret." Knowing they were important to Sophia, he carefully moved them all to the basement.

After moving the last crate, he noticed a heavy black briefcase in the corner, secured with six combination locks. The contents seemed even more valuable than the nine crates.

Without thinking much, he also took the briefcase to the basement.

The villa's basement was spacious and clean. After organizing Sophia's items, he went back to close the truck's doors and returned to the villa.

Seeing his clothes stained with zombie blood, Ethan muttered to himself, "I need to change. I remember seeing some clothes in the wardrobe when I checked the rooms earlier. Let's see if they fit."

He headed straight to the wardrobe and, as he entered, he bumped into Sophia, who had just finished changing.

Sophia had swapped her work uniform for a black spaghetti strap dress, revealing her perfect collarbones and shoulders. The dress, both simple and elegant, accentuated her fair skin, adding an air of mystery and allure.

Feeling Ethan's fiery gaze and his warm breath, Sophia instinctively lowered her head and gently said, "These clothes have zombie blood on them. Don't throw them away; I need them for research."

With that, she quickly left.

"Okay."

Ethan watched her graceful figure and perfect curves as she walked away, smiling.

He then entered the dressing room, changed into a T-shirt and shorts, and returned to the living room.

"Dinner's ready!"

Amelia emerged from the kitchen, carrying a bowl of noodles.

The tight workout clothes Amelia had been wearing were now replaced by a loose, blue-gray T-shirt that just covered her hips. The hem of the T-shirt swayed, offering glimpses of her alluring figure, stirring the imagination.

"Thanks, Amelia."

Ethan took the bowl of noodles from Amelia. Glancing at the extreme gentleness on his left and the extreme sensuality on his right, he felt a warm stream flow from his nose.

"Oh no, you're bleeding."

Sophia, who was deeply engrossed in scientific research and unfamiliar with worldly matters, immediately grabbed a tissue to help Ethan wipe his nose.

"It might be because of the heat. The air is dry, and it's easy to get overheated," Ethan said awkwardly, cursing his body for being so uncooperative.

"I think it's not the dry air, but your dry heart," Amelia teased.

"It's mainly because of the two fires burning brightly beside me. No one could withstand it," Ethan said, smiling and his eyes twinkling with anticipation for his future life.

Sophia didn't pay attention to their banter. She kept examining the blood that had come from Ethan's nose and said seriously, "Logically, the blood of zombies should contain a virus. I've observed that some of it has entered your eyes and mouth, but your body hasn't changed at all. Your blood color is also normal. This is very unusual."

She then raised her clear, bright eyes and studied Ethan intently.

Ethan was startled, realizing that Sophia had easily noticed the peculiarity of his body. No wonder she was a specialist in supernatural abilities.

"You might have some kind of innate talent that you're not aware of. This nosebleed is an important research sample. I'll study it and let you know," Sophia said, carefully folding the tissue with Ethan's blood and placing it beside her.

Ethan, not wanting to reveal his abilities just yet, quickly changed the subject: "Dr. Sophia, could you analyze why the world has become like this?"

"Yes, even in apocalypse movies, there's usually a process," Amelia said, putting down her chopsticks and looking at Sophia. "Why did everyone disappear overnight, and why are there so many zombies? Isn't this happening too fast?"

After a moment of thought, Sophia replied, "I need to conduct further research to give you a precise answer. However, I suspect it might be due to parallel universe collisions causing a time-space shift."
