章節 126: You are... on the brink of death

But... why would that man do such a thing?" The little girl's response left Riven perplexed. "No matter how I think about it, I can't comprehend it."

"Tch... It's only natural not to understand; it's expected," said Rek'Sai with a mocking smile. "Nassus has always had a mind unlike any other. If you can grasp it, that would be strange. In my opinion, even if we were to completely seal away that old bastard Xerath, we would first need to eliminate your lot."

"Originally... we were peacefully slumbering here, and yet you ruffians insisted on disturbing our rest. Tch... If it weren't for the constant need to channel energy into the seal, your motley crew wouldn't even qualify to make Rek'Sai take you seriously." Rek'Sai grumbled, scratching his sharp teeth with his claws.

"Now that Nassus is dead and Anoya has perished, are you satisfied?" As he picked at the remnants stuck between his teeth, Rek'Sai continued, "But perhaps this is for the best; at least my power can finally be fully unleashed. Next..."

"Prepare to experience the wrath of a demigod! You insignificant humans!!!" He roared at the dark void above, his body radiating terrifying waves of energy.

A violent storm erupted around him, the scorching winds forcing everyone to retreat. The explosive force was overwhelming, a display of power capable of obliterating everything.

As the brilliance faded, the wounds on the crocodilian figure had vanished, and an aura of divine majesty enveloped him. "This... is the true power of Rek'Sai! Tremble, humans!!! Now comes the time for my vengeance!!!"

"This..." Feeling the overwhelming force, Riven and her companions instinctively took several steps back.

In stark contrast, the man who had remained silent and indifferent since his arrival took a quiet step forward, his pitch-black eyes...

Slowly opening.

"You... are on the brink of death," Xiao Mu Yu stated coldly.

The fierce winds on the platform tousled the man's gray-white hair, obscuring his icy eyes and concealing his expression. Only his frigid, unfeeling voice resonated in the void.

You—are about to die...

That emotionless voice, devoid of any fluctuation, seemed merely to announce an impending reality—one that even Rek'Sai, upon regaining his demigod powers, could not reverse.

You—are nearing death...

Before Rek'Sai's mocking surprise could fully form, it froze on his face.

The void before the two gradually split apart, and a small teddy bear, struggling with its movements, crawled out from the rift.

Stumbling as it jumped down, the toy bear dusted off nonexistent dirt from its knees before looking up at Rek'Sai with a radiant smile.

And then, a second passed...

"[Shattered... Childlike Innocence]?" Facing this suddenly appearing toy bear with a stiff expression, Rek'Sai slowly lowered his head. "Is this... your so-called backup plan?"

"To lure the relentless pursuer, [Shattered Childlike Innocence]? Alas... heh, heh... heh heh..." The crocodilian's low laughter gradually rose, as he covered his eyes with one hand and raised his head with a sorrowful expression. "[Shattered Childlike Innocence] does not discriminate in its killings! To it, every living being in this world is a target to be erased!"

"Bringing such a monster here, what can you, insignificant human, possibly accomplish?" Rek'Sai remarked mockingly, lowering his hand as he gazed at the silent, cold man before him.

"I need not do anything; I simply must ensure my death occurs after yours," Xiao Mu Yu replied, coldly meeting Rek'Sai's gaze. With his usual icy tone, he issued his final command, "Lux, [Temporal Stasis]."

"Understood!" A voice echoed from the hallway, responding to Xiao Mu Yu's command. A golden-haired girl, appearing somewhat weakened, stood at the entrance, murmuring the incantation taught to her by the man.

("Divine Language") "O void of time and space, heed my summons; O manifested time, accept my request; let the myriad spirits bear witness here, as the celestial deities surround us, and thus I declare, divine art—[Temporal Stasis]."

The girl's light voice gently scattered into the air, and in that instant, it seemed as though the entire world had come to a standstill.

The fierce winds on the platform halted...

The cold smirk on Rek'Sai's lips froze...

The world fell into an eerie silence.

Then...

A colossal golden gear slowly emerged from the heavens above, its gradual rotation symbolizing the continuous flow of time since ancient times. Yet today, this realm, one that only deities could tread, was profaned by a mere human.

Creak—creak—creak—

Amidst the gentle friction of gears, golden rays cascaded down from the sky, and under the guidance of the time staff held by Lux, they enveloped Xiao Mu Yu, Riven, Annie, and the others, leaving only Rek'Sai fully exposed to the toy bear's perception.

"..." Lowering his head in silence, Rek'Sai covered his small eyes, a deep voice emerging slowly, "So... this was your plan?"

"To draw the relentless pursuer, [Shattered Childlike Innocence], and then use the time staff to activate the divine art [Temporal Stasis], ensuring that all of my allies are excluded from [Shattered Childlike Innocence]'s awareness... Thus, within the entire platform, only I shall become its target." The crocodilian's voice, now suddenly somber, hinted at something terrifying brewing within.

"But... how could you be so well-informed about all this? Whether it be the characteristics of [Shattered Childlike Innocence] or the abilities held by the time staff, even... you understand the language between gods and demons?" As he slowly raised his head, Rek'Sai's gaze fell upon the empty space where Xiao Mu Yu had stood moments before.

"Then, my instincts were indeed correct?" He extended a sharp claw, pointing at the void, his cold and cruel gaze fixated on him. "It is you... Night?"

"..." The icy gaze met Rek'Sai's silently, and Xiao Mu Yu remained silent, his cold eyes still reflecting an unyielding chill.

And so, the world continued to turn.

The howling wind swept in from behind the platform, tousling the man's gray-white hair, yet it could not disturb his indifferent and unfeeling visage.

Amidst the resounding rustle of his cloak, the man stated indifferently, "You—are on the brink of death."
